Im with you on this also mossy, season 5 seems to be holding up, it will be my new favourite if it keeps on the right path.

Season 1, definitely. It had that intitial 'never done before' bang to it that I don't think you can beat. Season 3 was good too, but only up to the last episode when all the steam seemed to run out and there was a hasty ending to it. I felt that let down what was otherwise a good season. Season 4 is just unmentionably bad  And I can't really remember the plot of season 2 now. That was the one with the nukes, Kate Lawlor and her phsyco sister wasn't it? That was pretty good too I thought.

I thought they were all amazing, season 1 was the best because it was just so 'OH MY GOD'....But i hear season 5 is unreal, only 3 more days to wait for it!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,388 ✭✭✭Cina

    1 > 3 > 2 > 4 .

Season One is great television, not just because at the time it was very original, but it had a damned great script. They stuck to their real time format and didn't need to have a cliffhanger every episode or change plots every few episodes. It was excellent.

Seasons 2 and 3 for me were still good, although 3 was better than 2, 2 was very weak at times. They still pretty much held on to the real time format of the first season but a little less so.

And then there was season 4, some of the biggest tripe i've seen in a long time. This kidnapping is actually a front for a power plant attack which is actually a front for a presidential assassination which is actually a front for a nuke attack. Give me a ****ing break! They COMPLETELY lost the real time format. Such a joke of a season, it really was.

Season 5 is good so far, I can only hope that they do not change plots every 4 episodes!

Yeah Season 5 is looking to be the best so far.

I just watched Season 1 a few days ago and it's still great. The last hour of it is just amazing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭geraghd

yeah I watched Season 1 after seeing 2, 3, and half of 4. It definitly didnt have that 'wow never did this before' factor since I saw the othr 3, and it emphasises a lot of tech stuff that you have taken for granted since the other series. So best to watch it first, but have to say knowing what i did watching it, it was still very good! have to say, 2 was probably the best. Not a huge fan of 3 and with 4 though you are right with the plots, I thought it was absolutely amazing in keeping the action going constantly. Honestly there were many a night when my heart was literally racing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,713 ✭✭✭✭jor el

When watching season 1, did anyone else get the feeling that it was set slightly in the future? Some of the tech seemed a little more advanced that what was available at the time. That, and a black presidential candidate, made me think it was maybe 10 years down the line. In the following seasons they seem to have come back to 'today' though.

    Was it just me?

Not really. Anything in particular? The interface on the jeep was the only real high tech stuff he had, which is very much conceivable as a current tech item. If anything the stuff in series following were more high tech wasnt it?

    Has to be season 1.

The opening episode had you hooked.

Jack had his story, while Senator Plamer has a tricky time with Presidental Politics.

    Season 4 WAS ****.

Season one at least felt like everything happened in 24 hours, 24 has lost that.
Well i think that season 1 wasnt suppose to be good so i watched from season 2 and i think season 4 was the best but what do you think was best.

Seriously watch Season 1 and then tell me that season 4 was good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,231 ✭✭✭✭Sparky

season 4 was the worst, eating tripe would of been better.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 818 ✭✭✭Cormic

I actually got fed up with season one when Kim ended back in the woods. I did not watch season two at all. I watched season three and thought it was the business. Season four was dirt so I am kind in half a mind about watching season five.

What do the people who have seen more of season five think of it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

    best yet imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭shay_562

I only watched seasons 3 and 4 properly, so naturally I voted for 3 (4 was just...what were they thinking?). And to be fair, 3 had some great bits - I loved Tony and Michelle's storyline, and the way they effectively reset the storyline halfway through was a far more effective way of stalling for 24 episodes than season 4's "The plan is to blow up a train! No, it's to bring down Air Force 1! No, it's to get the nuclear football! Actually, we have no idea what the plan is. Anyone? Bueller?"

I though kim ended up back in the woods in season 2, with the mad guy with the underground bunker. Yeah?

    Season one
    1. Kim is kidnapped
    2. Jack has to go to CTU as someone is trying to kill the Senator.
    3. Palmer is dealing with his wifes lies.
    4. Kim's mother goes looking for Kim with her friends "father".
    5. Kim's mother is kidnapped.
    6. We know who the insider is or do we.
    7. Nina is "killed" by jack or is she.
    8. Nina confronts the "insider"
    9. Jack goes to save Kim and his wife.
    10. Kim and her mother are in the save house
    11. Kim "dies" and her mother forgets LOL.
    12. Kim goes to the guy that was helping her.
    13. Kim ends up in prison
    14. Kim is kidnapped again
    15. Jack goes to save Kim
    16. Kim's mum remembers and finds out who the other insider is and is then killed by the insider.
    17. Sherry tries to tempt palmer into realations with his aid. that BITCH.
    18. FOX happy that I didn't head up the team that gave them the idea.

Im watching all the seasons again right now in order. Ive got towards the end of season 2 and I have to say its my favourite. It has an intensity to it which doesnt let up. And who can foget Mason going down with the plane. Brilliant episode with the bomb going off at the end. Its a bit annoying when Kim keeps getting into trouble. Cant she just lock herself in a hole for a day:D Season one wasnt bad. Season five is looking like the business though. Oh I definitely thought that series one was supposed to be set in the future. Cant remember why I thought that.

I would have to say I thought Season 4 was outstanding. I have not seen any of season 5 yet to be honest. I was not into this "24" thing this time last month but in less that 3 weeks, I have managed to watch all 4 series of 24 and I am now completely addicted to it.

I cann't say I find 24 as good as it used to be. Sky One doesn't suit me at the moment and again I am left waiting for RTE to start showing 24. :(

The only seasons I've seen completely are 4 and 1. I liked 'em both, if 2 and 3 are better than I've got a lot to look forward to! Keeping up with 5 as well, it's great.

Hadn't time to get into 24 before last season after catching it in the states but Day5 is a television masterview.

    Brilliant viewing.

I watched all of season one last weekend but when i reached the second last episode my cousin spoiled it on me. Gotta get the next ones on dvd. Loved the first one, some of the best tv around

I'm suprised that people are slamming Season 4 so much. I thought that it was the best season so far (5 may eclipse this though). I thought Seasons 1 & 3 weren't great. In saying that I watched Season 1 after watching 2,3 & 4.

i never watched 2 or 4. 1 was poor, by the standards of 24 now, but for its time it was spectacular. they basically almost perfected a whole new way of telling a story. season 3 was great, though i hated the way they kept bringing back characters. i love the idea of killing off as many as possible in the early hours of 5 and keeping the cast tight.

i voted 3, but 5 has a chance of being better.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 396 ✭✭monomaniac

This is an interesting thread - I'd say 5 is shaping up to be the best season so far. My basis for decision is that I feel there hasn't been a bad episode of season 5 yet so far.

I can remember quite a few dodgy episodes from previous seasons - Jack and the Muslim civilians team up for a big gun fight - America, F**K YEAH!

Here are my recollections of the seasons - I'd appreciate someone helping me fill in the blanks - couldn't be bothered going through ep guides:
Season 1: Dennis Hopper was the bad guy - what was the overall threat? I remember an assasination attempt on Palmer's life.

Season 2: Big nuke - Mason flying it into the desert. Then the storyline changed to a fake recording of some foreign diplomats that could potentially start a war. Palmer was temporarily stripped of his presidential powers right? And wasn't this the season that ended in the baseball stadium? That was a lame finale.
being disappointing - Chase and the arm. What happened in between?

Season 3: Jack addicted to heroin. The virus being sold. Perhaps this was the best season. Again though I remember the finale being disappointing -chase and the arm etc. All felt a bit anti-climatic.

Season 4: This is when we met Audrey and her father. I'm not sure why people are slamming this season - I thought it had the best finale of them all. What was the main threat though?

It haven't any of the eps again since they originally aired - would appreciate more details - might buy some on DVD.

This one is right up there with season 1. Every hour so far has been gripping stuff. They have managed to keep me glued this time around. As the previous poster states, its rolling along nicely this time around. Lets hope it continues that way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 400 ✭✭Wheely

I was a massive fan of 24 but its definitely lost momentum. Season 1 was by far the best, season 2 close behind it. I thought Season 3 was definitely the worst, hated the way the threat level decreased by loads halfway thru, twas like, the virus is gonna be released in 6 hours, then when that was up it was like, oh no its not, but its gonna be sold to someone who might release it so lets stop that instead. That said Michelle in the hotel was cool as was the Michelle/Tony stoyline. I hated Chase!!! Season 4 was fantastical but there were some quality moments, Jack torturing Paul, and then letting him die on the operating table are defnitely in my top 5 24 moments ever. Season 5 is ok, the way they keep killing everone off is cool, Palmer, Edgar, Tony, Michelle, but some stuff is downright ridiculous. The politics side of things is so simplistic its cringeworthy, like the President and 1 adviser (Mike) run everything...? Also when they all syarted sectioning each other in CTU was farcical, remindfed me of an episode of Peep-Show!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 442 ✭✭Lambsbread

I liked season two then one. I liked one the way that the story was someway believable. The events were realtively low key but was still very exciting. The first two seasons also had a nice split between action and politics which was lost in the third season and practically absent in the fourth. The political side of the current season is pretty weak. 24 seems to have turned into an all out action series (which has its merits!) and i kind of miss the politcal side.

The current series looks like it has a good conspiracy story in it as well and some of the action sequences have been good. But Overall, i'll have to say one and two, probably because the series was still fresh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭kevmy

I thought 3 was the best mainly because of the Salazars who i thought were the best bad guys - hammily brilliant. Season 2 fell down in the last few episodes due to the lack any particular bad guy. Season 4 sort of repeated the threat from season 2 and they dragged it out an awful lot. Season 3 also had the advantage of Kim not getting kimnapped every second episode. Season 1 i remember being great but haven't seen it in a long time. Kinda disappointed Tony and Palmer got killed off cause i liked them - (although the had pretty much taken Palmer as far as he could go i suppose)- but that the thing with 24 ya just don't know you they'll kill off next.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 887 ✭✭✭Rockerette

i'd love to be watching Season 5 on dvd.. cos thats the way i watched all the other series, and its so much FUN!
    watching like, 6 hours straight..

im not used to it being broken up like this!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 215 ✭✭Duffman'05

I thought the 2nd season was the best, (just slightly beating season 1 though).
The first 3 were excellent in general-very original ideas and twists.

But all through season 4 it was boringly predictable-the plot and the 'twists'.
What also let it down was that there was no solid plot behind it-and by that I mean the terrorists had no real motive or solid reason for using the nuclear warhead. This was just a copycat of season 2 i think, but alot shabbier.
I perosnally think that they just tried to tie it in with the current events of the Irag war and post 9/11, very unsatisfying.

This season they seem to be back on track though-keep up the good work guys.
And i've heard rumours of Kiefer Sutherland being signed on for another 3 seasons after this-can anyone confirm?
