Couldnt be bothered, they havent releases anything decent since And justice..., few decent songs on the black album. I remember seeing them in '88 in the top hat with Danzig in support , now there was a gig............

    No, you're wrong.

    Summer 2003 to summer 2004 = 1 year + 2 year gap to summer 2006 = 3 years.

lol that could be the stupidest/funniest explination ive ever heard....

    i quote family guy
my dads been working at the plant for 60 years...thats almost 80 years!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

    Yup. Four years.

Same month, same venue... Bit ridiculous really.

They should have treated their fans with one or two Point/Vicar Street gigs tbh, especially seeing that they've "escaped from the studio" without a new album to promote...

EDIT: Was just looking back over me ticket stubs and saw that the first of these RDS Metallica gigs was in August. My bad.

Summer 2003 was 2 and half years ago - explain how you're going to stretch that to 4 years within six months?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,230 ✭✭✭OLDYELLAR

huh sure they didnt play last summer in Ireland

Why are people saying stuff like 3 years in a row and 4 years

They played `03 and `04 , both brilliant shows I must add.

    TICKETS ON SALE THURSDAY 16TH FEB. 2006 @ 9am

Aiken Promotions are proud to present Metallica live in concert for one night only this summer. Metallica will play the RDS on Sunday 11th June 2006 in what is one of only 4 concerts for the heavy metal legends this year. Tickets, priced €75, €65, €64.50 and €54.50, go on sale on Thursday 16th February 2006 at 9am.

Metallica are in the process of recording their new studio album but are taking time out from their schedule to seek inspiration from their Irish fans, fans of which they themselves are huge fans.

This is not the first time Metallica have taken time out from recording to play some concert dates. In 1995, they embarked on a tour similarly named Escape From The Studio 95’. It proved such a success, that they decided to do it all over again.

It is expected that there will be a large influx of Metallica followers from all over the World seeking tickets for this much anticipated concert of 2006 so, Irish fans, make sure to get yours fast.

Hm does anyone think it's weird on Metallica's official site they're sayin Ireland's part of the whole download fest?
June 10 Donington UK - Download Festival
June 11 Dublin IRE - Download Festival
Are we gona get alot more bands playin instead of ****ty Trivium or somethin as the support? Or is this just what they're callin it, like last year Iron Maiden/Manson was part of the Reading fest thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

Yep, they said it was the Download festival on the RTE site also...
Metallica will play Dublin in June

Metallica are returning to Ireland to headline the Download Festival in Dublin in June.

Metallica's show at the RDS on 11 June is part of their 'Escape from the Studio' tour.

Tickets, priced €75, €65, €64.50 and €54.50, go on sale on Thursday 16 February at 9am.

Metallica are currently at work on the follow-up to 2003's 'St Anger'.
Is there a Download here this year? For €75 I would assume there would be more bands and why are there so many different tickets for the RDS? The UK Festival has Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine and Prodigy (?!) lined up already, maybe they'll come over here?

And lol at the "****ty" Trivium remark from the Slipknot fan...:D
(Note: Didn't think Slipknot were half bad at the last Metallica gig even if I'm not a fan)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Perhaps Aiken are scrapping the whole "Reading Ireland" idea and are looking at bringing a version of Download instead (which would still be a great idea... if they bothered to expand). There is no mention of Download on their site however, so it is probably a misunderstanding.

Since the prices are more or less the same, I doubt this will be much different from the last two gigs (one other high-profile band, plus an opener).

Does anyone know how to get passes for the pit? If you are going to do it, you might as well do it right!

just ask the nice man for some passes for the pit

Indeed, the point gig in 96 was excellent, roadie being set and fire and all that. though it wasnt a free treat, twas paid for out the college drinking fund

These are the dates that were sent me in an email

    * June 3 Nurburgring, GER - Rock Am Ring Festival
    * June 4 Nurnberg, GER - Rock Im Park Festival
    * June 8 Arnhem, HOL - Gelredome
    * June 10 Donington UK - Download Festival
    * June 11 Dublin IRE - Download Festival

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭merlinsmerryman

I'd say something like last years "festival"' maybe 2 opening acts and the headliner. Hopefully it won't be like last year having to finish at 10.30(correct me if I'm wrong) and will get a good days music(i.e value for money). Hopefully there's 4/5 bands starting maybe at 2 or3.

Who do people think will support?

I have a feeling Korn might, they are rumoured to play download festival and they might play with Metallica because they didn't get a very big crowd last time they were here....just a thought

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭merlinsmerryman

Could be anybody that's playing Download on Saturday (just my opinion might be very wrong but it would make sense)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 63 ✭✭SlipknotBitch9

And lol at the "****ty" Trivium remark from the Slipknot fan...:D
(Note: Didn't think Slipknot were half bad at the last Metallica gig even if I'm not a fan)
You have to admit you'd much rather listen to Slipknot rather than say emo **** right?
Anyway, Trivium's not my thing, at least the Knot aren't trying to pretend to be anyone..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,658 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Anyone who plays just below Metallica at Download will support i'd say. one or two of the bands. I really hope for BFMV. They only playin two dates in europe not bout 6. Hetfield even said it himself. This thing bout it sayin Download, i think it means the other bands will come from the Download fest so its like a mini-mini-mini-mini Download appearence. Just like Iron Maiden last year and the Reading thing

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭dimerocks

korn would be exactly a huge crowd puller. there last gig in the rds was half empty from what i heard. and the last metallica gig was fairly full.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

If it's an outdoor gig it has to be finished by 10:30 by law (noise pollution and such). There is a huge fine imposed for going even a minute over that time limit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

KoRns last gig was in the Point, it was a big let down comapred to the previous one in th RDS, which was brilliant.
Either way I don't see KoRn supporting.

I'm expecting Trivium, and other bands on that same level.

And who said Trivium are emo? Hahaha....that's silly.

    lordgoat wrote:

Well since there is a 34 month gap between gig 1 (August 2003) and gig 3 (June 2006) which may I add is actually less than 3 years I think we can all safely say that Metallica fans can't count.

I personally think it's absolutely outrageous that any band would play the same venue, same show without a new album by the 3rd show 3 times in 3 years and would make me think that the band were more interested in a quick pay day. Oh wait I've just realized I'm talking about Metallica here! ;)
