    Hey all,

just wanted to throw it out there that our beloved G'em deadlifted 100 kilos for 3 reps on Friday night. And this was at the END of a pretty back breaking workout. It should be noted that the form was fantastic and this wasn't any bent back, sumo stance attempt at 2 wheels a side.
It was spot on, perfect form that all people should use.

This was then celebrated with a night of laughter and merriment.

Take into consideration that G'em is a small girl when you ponder the above lift.

The above was witnessed by myself and two friends so if anyone wants to doubt it then i will have to smash you!!!!

So once again, well done to G'em, thanks for a cracking workout and a good laugh afterwards!!! :D

Congrats Gem! Is there a fitness "in crowd" that goes to the gym on Friday nights? Do you go to a pub afterwards in tight sleevless shirts?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

Nope, just me and G'em meet up and train on the odd occassion. As for the tight sleeveless shirts, i'm more of a hoody kinda guy!! :D

It is pretty nice being pretty much the biggest guy in the room anywhere i go though!!!!

Im not surprised, 6'1" and 270lbs right? Thats like a coke machine with arms

Na, 6'32 and i'm down to 265, shrinking by the day!

Sure, some of it is bad weight, but only a small amount, and effort and diet is removing that. I am hoping to come in at about 235 to 240 and be very lean.

Me too. Im about 205lbs and 6'7" Hoping to get it to about 240 - 250, but skinning down at the moment for a holiday at the end of the month. About 1% body fat to loose or less, then will go back to bulking until festival season/any oppertunity to remove clothing season.

The first six weeks after a restrictive diet are freaking ideal for banging on muscle dude. With all teh extra calories and fats all of a sudden your body freaks out and starts making test and GH like there is no tomorrow!

    I love it!

    Something to look forward to!

yes. its a very exclusive club. right now there's only two members and the occasional guest appearance. to apply for a pass for the night contact myself or Dragan.

Tight sleeveless shirts? how did you know? nearest thing to strutting around in a competition outfit I'm allowed to wear in public.

Iv been there a few times, good gym i have to say even if it does look a little bit worse for wear it has everything you need in it. Startin in my new gym tomorrow in town beside my college SV Fitness. Doesnt have everything but its quite cheap and accessible to me.

By the way what footwear would be ideal nowadays for lifting weights? im more a shoe wearing person and my last gym i wore converse lol! probably runners? can anyone recommend an affordable but reliable pair? need a decent pair this time, cant exactly workout in my bare feet like at home heh heh.

I use whatever fits. Asics are the only ones that do my size but I would imagine runners are the best. Do you do any cardio? Cant imagine switching shoes before weights!

I have only my opinion on this but Id say trainers, better support for your arches and your heels, also for comfort.

Asics are pretty decent, mate of mine swears by New Balance.

ok, hijacking other people's threads is fine, but mine?

and no, don't try and blame it on someone else.. yours is the last name I saw. Besides, I'd expect this kind of carry on from joejoem (:p ) but you?

    I'm disappointed. Truly, truly disappointed.

Just for that C's is waaaayy better *

Who you calling "crazy lady" Mr. Look-how-far-I-can-stick-my-elbows-n-ass-out-when-I-deadlift??!?!?! :D

And I so did NOT look. I was far too busy trying to encourage the blood to return to my head after deadlifting a small rhinocerous.

oh dear Lord no.... apart from the fact that Mr. Dragan already has a very lovely girlfriend, I can assure you that his 'friendly jibes' are merely thinly veiled threats against my existence. I wreck his head in the nicest possible way :p

All that training .... all that weight ..... all those bucketloads of determination... and still g'em finds the time to reply to Fitness boardsters across the spectrum. That's the sign of one gracious lady if ever there was one. Some day I'll meet ya, if I make it to the next global Boards gathering.

In a nutshell, hats off to ya, girl!!!!

Make sure to tickle her during the process next time dragan, that'll toughen her up no end :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,819 ✭✭✭✭g'em

:o why thank you all so very, very much. give me a month, it'll be 110kg...

and incisor, that sounds like a good plan- we could all meet up at the next boards night (I'll be the one standing beside a 6ft something big bloke- Mr. Dragan- with his eyes constantly rolled to heaven while I gently wreck his head about random workout stuff.. "ok, so tell me exactly whats involved in this weight training malarky, do I have to, like, pick up big heavy things and, like, stuff?!??"). We can all flex our biceps and compare favourite bodyparts and scare the 'normal' punters off. woohoo!!

how bout you come meet my over-worked lats up close and personal sometime buddy... they have a tendency to flare at the most innopportune moment causing random lashing out of whatever arm they're suspending :p

Ok enough flirting, it's not the personals.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

To be honest dude it's just a bit of friendly banter going on. Unfortunately our threads often break down into such shenanigan's as talking off topic and having a laugh often at the expense of each other.

No harm was meant by any of it. Apologies to any users who may have taken any of the above the wrong way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭Jak

I'm sure no offence was taken by anyone, and it's well and good to post a congratulations like this.

I just want to avoid the kind of 15 page text message conversation you can get on "After Hours".

Just to throw my hat in this ring and get the thread back on topic - congratulations g'em!

Of course now that you've achieved this you can go back to doing on-the-spot jogging with pink 2lb dumbells. After all, as a woman I'm sure you're aware that you're not built to pull that kind of weight. :D

More seriously though, you should tour a few other gyms pulling some proper weights infront of astonished gym rats for a laugh!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

Dude, I'm not messing, it was a classic moment. There was gem in the rack, pulling 100 kilo's for 3, me and two of my friends looking on, giving some encouragement.

The were thrse three dudes on flat benches, doing half assed weight all watching as well. I don't think they could believe it!!!

Afterwards me and my friends just broke into a spontaneous round of applause. It was sweet, and the girl is only training for a year.

    Magic.
