    AMC Pacer c. 1976?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,499 ✭✭✭Alfasudcrazy

Yep that's it - its no wonder the Yanks hate small cars.
I would not blame them after this was all the American manufacturers could offer them.

Then again was it a sly plan to make the American public only want large cars.

Ouch, that was quick Blue Peter.... indeed the AMC "Wayne's World" Pacer ! and 1976 it was indeed.

By no means a 'small car', but in those days in the States I guess it was.

Well, I guess I will have to make it a bit more difficult, so I'll have another go: see if you can find out what car this is?

This Lele is actually a Marlboro edition, only 5 produced (out of a total 285). This car was presented as a gift by the Philip Morris company to Emerson Fittipaldi, the Brazilian Formula one driver, after his victory in 1974 in a PM sponsored McLaren. It has a tweaked 351 Cleveland engine and is in mint condition.

I'll try one more time to see if I can catch you out....
    What car is this...

The photo credit and the file name kind of gives it away, but apart from that
    it's clearly a Ovlov 480 ;)

Looks like an Aston Martin Volante, or possibly a Bristol droptop?
The light unit is off some lowly BMC product originally.

    but then again... maybe not.

I feel like I should know this one - is it Italian?
Might have to consult The Runes* for this!

If we put an easy one on Dubtom, people don't get a chance to post an answer in view of the speed with which some knowledgeable forum members post their answer ;) . I'm sure the car you have just posted would be relatively easy to find. Let's just say, does it have a 3,5 litre V8 under the bonnet?

The car I posted is very similar to indeed one of the BMC products, that's why I thought it was a nice one to put everyone on the wrong footing, BUT blue850 you were remarkably close with your suggestion of an Alfa SS!!! But no cigar yet as it's not an SS.... It IS an Alfa Romeo, but which one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,615 ✭✭✭BrianD3

    Yeah that's pretty easy - Rover P5.

Still haven't a clue about PaulK_CCI's one <edit> even after the hint about it being an Alfa Romeo :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,568 ✭✭✭Blue850

    Its a 2600 Sprint

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,615 ✭✭✭BrianD3

The problem with these games is that people here are too knowledgable :) So if a full pic of a car is posted it has to be very obscure to give any challenge. Even small crops of cars are gotten quickly as can be seen in this thread.

Here is a slightly obscure car that was never sold in ireland, I'd say this will be identified within about 5 minutes :)

    R5 Saloon?????????????????? eek!

    Mike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,615 ✭✭✭BrianD3

R5 saloon is good enough. Its official name is the Renault 7 and they were only sold in Spain AFAIK.

Here's another one. I want the make and exact model for this one. The pic has been photoshopped slightly to remove a badge/name.

    P5B ok, too easy.
Brian, no idea of exact details but would hazard a guess at a Yugo.

That's the Citroen Visa - this particular model is the Rally version which had the quad headlamps - the basic model had simple rectangular headlamps with the indicators at the sides instead of the bumpers.

What a weird name for a car - I recall it sold very badly and I never saw a rally version ever - a forgettable Citroen if ever there was one.

This is the Gt model showing the basic grille set up. I suppose the mystery car could also be called the Visa GTI (it says it on the number plate :v: )

Strange - I was just thinking about this car the other day but could not recall the name of it - I had to even google this and just chanced 'Visa' as it was there somewhere in the cow webs of my brain and I came up trumps - odd really as this car was out in the 1980's.

Well Squirrel, by that time blue850 had already given us the right name so I guess you had missed that in view of the other interesting cars to be named.

    The Alfa 2600 sprint:

    3385_large.jpg
    3387_large.jpg

A very pretty car, but I don;t think the rear of the car worked as well as with the SS and the smaller Junior/GTV's. That's why it confused a lot of people because it was rather "un-alfa-ish' ...

Squirrel your car is pretty easy indeed: i'm sure it's a series 3 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe (the earlier series didnt have the fake wood dash). Superb car with a lovely twincam engine, but the rust has eaten away most of them, but here in Holland you can still pick up the odd nice one...

    or will they.

    Its a Mazda, a 1500 I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,615 ✭✭✭BrianD3

Spot on Blue850! A Mazda 1500. I think it looks like a cross between a Fiat 132 and a Triumph 2000 and was hoping that this would cause confusion. But obviously not :)

A little too much fun with the broken tail-light?

And I second Brian, is it a Holden of some sort?

Lads maybe some of ye could edit your posts so that the pics are attachments rather than links. The thread is taking bloody ages to load and it gets worse everytime someone adds a new link :)

A very rare beast CitroenGuru, especially in Right Hand drive! probably the only in Ireland...

I know exactly what it is as I already spotted it in an earlier post of your entire collection, but I won't spoil the fun yet and let a few others hazard a few guesses...

And apologies to BrianD3, I will use links instead of inserting pictures, as we don't all have broadband here :D

Oh, and by the way.... It's NOT Japanese, and it's NOT a Holden !
