Got two standing tickets for the Sunday night.

Wanted Saturday as myself and my friend didn't want to have to take the Monday off work but we just found out that those dates are on at Easter weekend so no worries.

Try Sound Cellar on Nassau Street, they are not on Ticketmaster as far as I know and they sometimes have extra tickets even when TM lists shows as sold out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

i have a feeling there will be more tickets released

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭vibrant

    Why?

there ****in better be. i have to go this time. id pay double the price

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

    1. 5 mins all tickets gone? a little too quick if you ask me
    2. on the ticket master site it hasn't posted the tickets for sale yet

o just a feeling no proof though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

I went to the Ticketmaster site on the day of release, went to the Morrissey pages and tried to order tickets. It told me to try amounts lower than 1. From previous experience that means it is sold out.

And 5 min isn't that long in this day and age to sell out two nights in the Olympia.

Try shops like Sound Cellar and Road Records. They'll be your only chance in my opinion. Most likely the tickets in both those shops will be gone very soon (if they're not already).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

i genuinly feel there are still gonna be more tickets, 5 mins morrissey the olimpia, i love moz, LOVE him but he's not THAT big to sell out in 5 mins surely??? just on experienc of always getting moz tickets never 5 min, or maybe its the blow ins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

    blu_sonic wrote:

Most likely. But bearing in mind he filled the Point the last time he played (can't remember if that sold out), there's an awful lot of people who have just realised that he's still a force to be reckoned with. Hence I'm not surprised at all that it sold out quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭vibrant

I think because the UK tour sold out so quickly, a lot of British fans snapped up the Dublin tickets. Perhaps they were able to book them on their local Ticketmaster hotline (I'm not sure if you can book tickets in foriegn countries).

I'm sad that you missed out on tickets, you do seem totally crestfallen. Hopefully some will turn up for you somewhere. Do try Road Records and Sound Cellar!!! Also, look at this site, someone is selling them at face value!

    Godspeed :)

I went to Sound Cellar on Friday morning and they were sold out by 9.30, then tried the ticketmaster booth in Stephens Green and they were also sold out. Went to work and online got my Saturday tickets :) , sounds like ticketmaster were holding on more online for more commission:mad:

The Olympia only has a capacity of about 1,600. Even for two nights that's still not that many people and quite a small number for someone like Morrissey. The fact that it's in such a small venue is obviously going to get people jumping.

More tickets may be released, but whether and when this'll happen is anyone's guess. Sometimes Ticketmaster releases an extra batch of tickets a week prior to certain gigs but there's no way of telling that'll happen here.

I would like to see Morrissey at some stage, but not for €40+. I expect to see him at some festival in the future anyway.

Think it sold out in the end. But not for a while.

The National Stadium gig in 1991 sold out very quickly. I remember queuing outside HMV Grafton St and getting one of the last batch. Tickets were gone within 25 mins.

I suppose the fact that it was his first solo gig proper (aside from Wolverhampton Free Trade Hall in 1988) caused the panic.

wonder whats the odds on a venue change? ie move to the point

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 806 ✭✭✭Atrocity

just bought the tickets for Killarney, 50 EURO well spent

    That won't be happening.

His UK/Irish tour was intended to consist solely of theatres and concert halls, so he won't be playing or upgrading to any arenas.

    Depot or Theatre?

Does anyone know the difference between the two?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

The Point Depot is the Point Theatre.

"Point Arena" would be a more apt term, although it hardly has the same ring to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

If they move it to the Point I'll be selling my tickets. I won't go to that glorified shed. The Point: Where sound goes to die.

i'd go regardless, i saw him there the last time wasn't bad

Wasn't bad maybe but the night in Dublin Castle was amazing. Didn't want to ruin the memory of that with a gig in the Point.

isn't it crazy the way different people enjoy gigs differently? i relly didn't enjoy dublin castle, but i missed most of the gig haggling with a tout before paying €140 for 2 tickets

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

I think that would have put a downer on the gig for me too in fairness. I went on my own and enjoyed the summer evening, just relaxed then really got into the show. I couldn't see that happening in the Point.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,668 ✭✭✭nlgbbbblth

The Point Depot is the Point Theatre.

So why are some gigs billed as being on in the 'Point Depot' and others the 'Point Theatre'?

This question has been bugging me for many, many years.

Bizarre Dublin Castle / Tout story.

I was outside Brogans at around 8.15pm or so with a group of friends on the way to Morrissey.

Two of them had no tickets and were hoping to buy from touts - willing to pay up to €60 or so

We see a man shouting "anyone buying or selling tickets"
We go over and one of ticketless guys says "I'm looking for a ticket"

Man takes out a bunch of tickets and hands him one.

    "How much?"

"You can have it. You want a ticket - there's a ticket"

Other ticketless guy says "I'm looking for one too"

Man takes out his bunch of tickets again and hands him one

    We cannot understand this generosity.

Somebody else pipes up "Can I have one?"

Man says "Do you already have a ticket? If you do I'm not f*cking giving you one"

At that point we thank the man and go.

Tickets looked perfect and the two guys got in without any hassle

Well it says "Point Depot 1878" in big letters outside the venue, so technically it's the same thing. They probably didn't update the wording as it's an old building.

There's always going to be an ad/listing that goes against the grain and calls it the Depot. Keepin' it old school G.

Tickets sold out in roughly 4 minutes.

A fe win the gods ( 40) were put on sale again at around 10.30.

All tickets ( capacity roughly 1300) were then sold out with a sizeable portion sold to the uk.

    29. All of which sold out super fast too, mainly to ticket touts it seems. I don't blame them for travelling over here, so many UK fans were left high and dry!

Did you follow that link I posted above, it was a link to someone selling 4 tickets at face value. Hope you got one! :)

Not a word of a lie.

I have been going to gigs since 1985 and have never seen a tout give away a freebie before.

Maybe he had made his money and wanted to offload a few tickets - it was quite close to the starting time [he came on within 10 mins of us going inside].
