Hi mods please move this If this is in the wrong forum.

Me and my friend had an argument about who would win in a fight between a male polar bear and male gorilla and now were not talking.

I think a polar bear would kill a gorilla I know their the largest land carnivore in the world, I think they weigh like 8 times the average man and stand about 7 foot plus the have massive teeth.
Gorrilas weigh 2-3 times the size of a average man and are about 5-6 foot. They are extremely strong I know, but I reckon If they had to have a fight between eachother Polar Bears would **** up a gorilla, with its claws and overall size. Does anyone else agree/disagrree and why, cos my friends pissing me off cos I know hes wrong.

Who Would win in a fight? 80 votes

    An average male Polar Bear
    0% 0 votes
    An average male Gorilla
    100% 80 votes

based on what you just said i'd say a polar bear but you should make a poll to save you counting all the eople who choose each one!

Sky sports would win because they would put it on pay per view

    Polar bear without a doubth.
Very territorial so used to fighting its own. Uses its paw a s hammer to stun seals when they come up for air so I'd say there is power there.

The vote was confusing! I'd say the polar bear, just 'cause, but what if they had guns?

Gorilla would definatly have the mobility advantage.
But a polar bear could tear chunks out of it if it got hold of the gorilla.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,190 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Polar bear has weight, speed and claws on its side. It can also stand on its hind legs, so the Gorilla loses that advantage too. Seriously, the Gorilla wouldn't have a hope.

Although Apes in battle with another male are known to go for the genitals, tearing them off is a pretty good way of winning a fight, so it could get lucky.

Note to self: never get in argument with male ape

No doubt, a polar bear would win, they are bigger, stronger, quicker on land, have claws and carnivours teeth. It's about as even a match as a tiger and a pig.

Gotta be the polar bear. All that Coke they drink surely makes them more alert.

Wrong. It used to be "My friend and I" but that it was decided in the late 90s by Oxford University that this phrase (among others) was deemed to be incorrect as the first person (Me) should always come before the third person (him) in the above, citing "My" as foundation.

    Go figure huh?

I'd go with the polar bear for the win. But depends on where the fight is held, perhaps. North pole= polar bear Congo= gorilla?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,613 ✭✭✭Lord Nikon

If it was local like, I recon the gorilla, cause the polar-bear wouldn't be able for the heat.

If it was up north, the polar bear cause the gorilla wouldn't be able for the cold.

Apart from that, the polar bear would rip chucks out of a gorilla.

my sentiments entirely.... the "where" factor has to be taken into account. And even still I'd probably go for the polar bear.

Although, King Kong animalised 3 T.Rex's so if you scale that down I'd have to go with the Gorilla.

i wouldnt give up on the gorilla in a fight, i suppose it would depend on habitat in where they fought but gorillas have tremendous strenght. Child-teenage chimpanzees have the strenght of a strong adult human and gorillas are much much bigger than chimpanzee's and especially if the gorilla is an adult so id say if a polar bear got a whack from a gorilla i wouldnt think it would be nice at all.

It would have to be the Polar bear, IMO.

    Them Fu*kers are vicious.

The Gorilla would kick ass, I've been up close to some Silver-Backs in captivity and they're unbelievably impressive, Polar bears are mainly blubber to protect against the cold. Personally, I'd rather scrap with a polar bear than a Gorilla.

i would too, even though gorillas are gentle giants, iv heard they rips limbs from bodies if provoked or angry than mauling like a polar bear

I presume when you say gorilla your talking about t a full grown silverback? I wouldnt be so quick to give the polar bear the edge in terms of strength, & anyone who says a polar bear is faster hasnt seen a silverback move at full speed.

Overall Id say the polar bear would take it, as they are vicious animals, but it would be closer than a lot of you think.

They used to do this on discovery i think they had a polar bear verus a..... cant remeber look it up on their website..anyway polar bears have incredible bite force..most bears infact and are built for killing...gorilla's while strong lack the killer instinct...I tihnk people have been watching to much king kong

BUt who would win between a 3 legged dog with giant teeth and a cat with a spear for a tail??

    Is this it?
Polar bear loses to a Walrus and Gorilla beats a leopard. I'd still go for the Polar Bear though.

A male highland Gorilla has a fair weight and bursts of speed, big fuggin teeth on it's side too and can stand on it's hind legs easier than a bear. It can also run for short distances on it's hind legs. The fact that a gorilla has massively powerful arms and grasping hands would be a huge advantage. A chimp has been measured at being able to excert a force of over a tonne with it's arms. Scale that up in a big way for a gorilla. The brain power aspect would be another advantage over a pretty dumb bear. I'd give the silverback the backing on this one.

There was an MPG doin the rounds a while back of a female gorilla(way smaller than a silverback)at a water hole in the gongo, punching a lioness and killing it. One punch and a dead lion is the result. A polar bear would be in serious trouble. A p!ssed off hippo would cream the pair o' them though.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,562 ✭✭✭connundrum

Why are they fighting though? Did the gorilla go off with the polar bear's ma? Cos if he did then the gorilla should just lie down and take the beating.. hence a polar bear victory.

Ya just can't be doin that to somebody's ma like :v:

Dont know about the chimp i tihnk that maybe in ratio to its weight....a sliver back is as strong a 7 heavy weight olmypic weight lifters...so probably 14 or more times than average man

Please! This sort of science can't be compared to some mickey-mouse competition like the FA cup! Obviously if this event was ever to happen the only fair thing to do would be to have it over 2-legs like in European competition.

I can't believe the amount of votes the polar bear is getting.

Assuming a neutral territory it's the gorilla's mobility that will win the day. As long as he doesn't get caught in a close quarters wrestling match with the polar bear he should be okay.

Seriously, give me two weeks with this chimp and I'll turn him into a champ.

Thats assuming the gorilla understands the concept of hit and move
