Flaxseed oil

God it tastes horrible! It made my shake taste like fish! How much do you put in your shake? This is to make an isolate shake release slower through the night. I use a teaspoon but it ruins my chocolate shake. :(

Why do some healthy things have to taste like ass (ahem, I mean what I imagine ass would taste like....)

(not that I ever would imagine what ass tastes like)

Yeah but you see I want it for my night shake. I use isolate protein which is absorbed or wasted fast as opposed to caecien(sp) protein. Flax oil releases theprotein slower, so I mix it with the shake.

Hey joejoem - if you hate it then don't do it :D . A grilled chicken breast is equally a slow absorbing protein, as is turkey, and both of them are very lean sources.

I presume you've gone off cottage cheese?;)

    Caecien = casein (sp)

Ahhh tis yourself Fatboyslim. Yeah chicken breast is fine n all but not at 12am when Im going to bed. cant see myself tucking into a chicken fillet sambo then, would rather the fish-milk (puke - terrible when you burp.)

By the by, flax oil is half price in natures way at the mo

i dont particularly like the taste of my flax seed oil either, unless on a salad with olive oil, so rather than mix it with anything else, i just swig it from the biottle, get it over and done with and thats that. I'd gladly do that than eat cod liver oil in gelatin capsules! etc etc!!!!

Try lecithin granules instead for a better source of fats.

What I do is put the oil (I use Holland&Barrett´s Optimum Oil Blend) in a glass, peel an orange & have it ready, then down the oil and shove a piece of orange in my mouth as quickly as i can.

The feeling of the oil going down your throat is still gross, but oranges have such a strong taste they take it away quickly.

bleh. feeling queasy just thinking about it

If its really that bad you could probably take it as an enema or feed a pipe withn a funnel attached to it down your throat and pour it in.

Yeah, but it's still minging. I was taking the oil for a while but I found it so repulsive I moved on to the capsules. Thing is the 'recommended' daily intake is 2 or 3 capsules three times a day! That's a lot.
If you're an oil purist, I found that the most palatable way to take it was to mix it in with homemade hummous, in place of olive oil.

Actually, I'll post that recipe here, cos it's dead easy:

    1 tin of chickpeas, drained
    2 cloves of garlic
2 tablespoons of tahini (sesame seed paste)
    Juice of 1 lemon
    4 tablespoons of Udo's Oil
A dollop of natural yoghurt (optional)
    Salt and pepper to taste.

Bung the lot in a blender and process until pasty. Lash a load of it into a wholemeal pitta with some halved cherry plum tomatoes and maybe a bit of cheese and you're laughing.

Remember to shout "HARDCORE!" before you hold your nose & down it :D .

By the by, I buy the flax seeds and mill them - I think they taste OK, definitely not fishy anyway, and milling them up makes them digestable.
