    Interesting Facts about Mobile Phones

    1. Emergency Number : The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobiles is
    112.

If you find yourself in an out of coverage area of your mobile network
and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any
existing network to establish the emergency number for you and
interestingly this number 112 can be dialled even while the keypad is
    locked.

    2. Keys Locked in the Car? (remote locking)

This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a Mobile Phone: If
you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call
someone on your mobile phone. Hold your mobile phone about a foot from
your car door and have the other person at your home press the Unlock
button, holding it near the phone on their end. Your car will unlock.
Saves time for someone to drive your keys to you. Distance is not a
problem. You could be hundreds of miles away and if you can reach
someone who has the other remote for your car, you can unlock the
    doors(or the boot).

Editor's Note: *It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car
    over a mobile phone!"

    3. Your Mobile Battery is Very Low , you are expecting an important
call and you don't have a charger". Nokia instrument comes with a
reserve battery. To activate the battery, the key-in *3370# your cell
    will restart with this
reserve and your instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This
reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

Is the "keys locked in the car" thing actually true? Wow if it is. Damn if it's not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Very nice about the battery and the car:) Hopefully I wont need the first one:o

Actually, hope I wont need any:)

Are these brand orientated or will they work with any phone?

To get into someones voice mail without havin to ring you just put the number 5 after network code so if the mobile number is 0871234567 so if you put 08751234567 its handy if you have a missed call and your not sure who the person is!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭spartacus93

The nokia code changes the voice codec so it uses less battery. No reserve battery.

The car thing seems a bit far fetched!

No idea how the 2nd one operates - I'd guess it doesn't work on all types of alarms, if at all. Maybe some kind of ultrasound?

    its magic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

The car thing doesn't work. Your central locking/alarm remote is generally controlled by radio frequencies. The receiver on a mobile phone works like a microphone - it receives sounds produced through soundwaves which travel through air. Radio transmitters don't create soundwaves, ergo they cannot be picked up on microphones.

Afaik, some remotes use infrared (which wouldn't work either). In the case of a remote using ultrasound, the possiblity may exist (if the planets are aligned), but that would require both handsets to be capable of receiving, processing and transmitting sound which is outside the human auditory range. This is unlikely, since it only serves to consume battery power.

Ok then, Mr. Super Moderator, why is it the range of my car alarm remote control is better when I have it touching my head? Eh?

    wow mobile phone cheat codes!

here's another one - if you enter #463#6633 and press send you enter God Mode. This allows you to levitate, walk through walls and fly around as though using astral projection (but without having to be in a trance first). The latter feature is like zooming around the globe in Google Earth only better.

Because your head acts as an antenna, which, wait for it. Boosts the signal.

By any chance, were you in the house pushing the button, ringing her outside the house....?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,129 ✭✭✭kirving

Yeah, the key was in the back of the kitch, totally opposite side of the house, no line of sigh, and well over 10 meters away, would have had to go through 2 walls, and it only worked when i put the fone near the sensor.

It's the transponder the aliens left in there last time you were abducted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,129 ✭✭✭kirving

Yes it did. I have no reason to lie, what would I gain? I also did it AGAIN at 12.15, to make sure it did before I replied. Why do you think i'm lying, do you have the car? Do you have the very same alarm? (that I didnt say the model no. of) Hey, I'm surprised that it worked too, but it did!

At a push, I would say the phone helps boost the reach of the signal (piggybacking on the phone's own aerial). Try walking a few miles away (at least into another cell).

[FONT=Trebuchet MS,Bookman Old Style,Arial][FONT=Trebuchet MS,Bookman Old Style,Arial] (More than a few people have inadvertently fooled themselves into believing the cell phone method of unlocking car doors actually works because they tried it and achieved the desired results — not realizing their cars were still within range of their keyless remote devices, and the signals that unlocked the doors were transmitted the usual way [i.e., through the air], not via cellular phone connections.) says it all :D

No - it's quite simple - you need to get onto the fuel store depot level. Then you have to kill the two fire demons guarding the third doorway on the right (rocket laucher works best for this imho - but you have to be quick). After doing that you pick up the "super battery" and 80 health points which are in the room behind the door that the fire demons were guarding. When you put the super battery in your phone (unless it's a Motorola :( ) this cheat will be available to you

Mentioned this before and not many people knew it.

On most mobiles if you set an alarm and turn phone off, phone will switch on to sound the alarm.

So no need to keep phone on all night just so your alarm will wake you.

Of course this frequently causes problems in exam halls with girls who've set their "Pill Reminder" alarm -> Middle of exam phone starts making a racket....

If you press this into your mobile; 086 83xx1x0 and hit "dial" you get to exchange real-time verbal communication with some guy who kicks ass.

(ive left out a few digits cuz you may easily become obsessed)

mmm phone hax, there are loads, best one. :D

    THE JAMES BOND TRICK

If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying.

Just a rectification. The 112 number doesn't work worldwide but only in Europe.

And the battery thing doesn't work on LG phones.
