Snacking

I recently stopped smoking. Every night I crave *something*. Not nicotine, just something to fill that void left by not having a smoke. I always end up snacking on anything from chocolate or leftover Christmas biccies and stuff, to cheese and crackers. Or else I have a few drinks.
I’m also trying to lose weight. The problem is I don’t have the willpower to abstain completely from cigarettes AND snacks, for the moment anyway.
My question is: what is the best snack for my situation?

For something late at night close to when you may be going to be might i suggest something high in protein and low in carbs and fat.

    meat is good.
or a whey protein drink also.

last thing in the evening is my evil time for snacking too. I try and drink green tea or keep a handful of carrot sticks nearby. Whey is great to fill you up as well, but if I drink it too late I need to get out and go to the loo in teh early hours of the morning :o

haven't the patience or stomach for it late at night. and I usually need something to satisfy a sweet tooth which chocolate whey, and for some reason carrots, usually satisfies

Well , what i do is get the type of meat i am intersted in , cook it and then eat it. Crazy i know. But it works!!!

In all seriousness i will have some chicken or some steak, normally done in the foreman as they just taste lovely!

Try making your own muffins using protein powder. I keep some of these in the freezer as a snack at home. I can post the recipe if you want.

Dry meat? Or do you use a sauce?

In fairness, I don't think my wallet could handle snacking on steak every night but it would be nice now and again.

It can be both, depending on what i'm in the mood for.

And round steak and beef cassorole stock from Knorr is my best friend. Cheap and tasty as hell.

This would be obviously high in protein, but would it be low in carbs and fat?

Go on - post the recipe!

    Ok, here goes.

    4 egg whites
    1/2 c low-fat/non-fat cottage cheese
    1 t vanilla extract
    1-1/2 c oats, uncooked
1/2 or 3/4 cup protein powder (chocolate flavored) (I use ON Gold Chocolate, its the business)
5 t sugar subsitute eg splenda
    1/2 c water (optional)

Blend egg whites, cottage cheese and vanilla extract. Add oats and protein powder. If too thick, add some water. Add the mixture to a baking tin. Should be enough here for a 6-muffin tin. Bake at 400 F for 20-30 minutes.

    1 muffin from a 6-muffin tin aprox
    114 calories
    1.6 g of fat
    14.8 g of carbs
    13 g of protein

i'm trying to imagine what those muffin things taste like, but i really cant...

might give them a shot out of curiousity.

me, im a devil for late snacking, especially when i come in after joint or two.
i usually go for a bowl of weetabix, i freakin love that stuff. i know its a terrible thing to eat before bed, but meh.
i dont like the idea of restricting myself unrealistically. i may not have a perfect physique, but at least i have a little fun in my life :)
