Tracksuits

Just took a walk up to Jervis st. on my lunch break, which I often do, and noticed the amount of young women wearing tracksuits, although none of them looked like the sporty types... Why would anyone want to wear these things into town when you're going shopping etc.? They look horrible and shows a lack of class and style. Are they not aware that tracksuits are a fashion faux-pas? How hard is it to put on something half-decent looking when you leave the house in the morning? The same goes for men but I didn't see as many around today.

Was in Spain for holiers last summer. Now the Spanish women could teach the Irish a thing or two about fashion (and weight loss!). I think Irish people in general are lazy when it comes to their appearance.

I think J-Lo/Desperate Housewive actress type people are bringing tracksuits back in to fashion.

I personally don't think it's a good look but whatever you're in to.

Yep Kiera I just thought the same thing myself!!!! Maybe if Irish men weren't so ugly us irish women might feel the need to dress up a little bit!! haha  Im only joking now before anyone starts throwing a sissy fit!!

Maybe these tracksuit wearing people are mothers who just have a minute to spare to run into town and pick up some shopping before the kids come home from school or something?? They are comfortable and not doing anyone else any harm so why bother to go making a thread about it!!!

Because its always a better idea to wear tight fitting clothes in crowded shops, and give yourself an extra challenge by wearing stillettos walking the streets really

No it's not we hate irish women time again - Men do this too. You don't see it outside of the UK and Ireland (we copy all of their worst fashion habits!!), but why do we insist on being so stupid looking in these suits?

If the type of tracksuit you're referring to is the type that look like pyjamas, and worn in a variety of absolutely hideous colours, then I would also like to express my undying hatred of them...

    You'd have to be!

Number of Irish women considered good looking enough to be Hollywood players = 0

Number of Irish men considered good looking enough to be Hollywood players = lots

Yer really letting the side down you lot :)

Each to their own I say!!! Obviously these people like wearing their tracksuits and feel comfortable in them so why complain??? Why go pointing the finger??? They might think that you look awfull in what your wearing, they might think that your oufit "lacks class and style"... one man's taste is another man's poison! Leave them be if they aren't doing anyone any harm!!!!!

So what your saying is that these people who choose to wear tracksuits are letting the side down? I don't see why anyone should be embarrassed to be irish because some people in the country wear tracksuits!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 888 ✭✭✭Merrick

Ah but they're more often than not tracksuits that bear more than a passing resemblance to pyjamas!!! I'm not embarrassed to be Irish because of them, but I'm embarrassed on their behalf...

I don't think I even own a tracksuit :| When I want exercise, I wear combats and an oldish tshirt...
I have pjs that look kind of like those tracksuits, but I certainly just wear them as pjs...

you can't honestly tell me that a few shoppers dressed in casuals for a bit of shopping bothered you that much.

Would it help if we all went round in our sunday /wkend glad rags for you?
In fairness, you're losing the run of yourself there.

when i worked in xtra vision it was common to see women coming in with their pyjama's on... and no, they weren't attractive. mostly junkie types. barely women tbh. and that's the same kind of women (generally, not always) who go into town in tracksuits with no intention of jogging or doing what tracksuits were made for

No danger there. sure you're from dundalk :D

Ok so when I have foreigners ask me why irish people wear tracksuits with their bellies hanging out etc. I cringe a bit. Does that make me a snob?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭BoozyBabe

Won't say whose comments I agree with here, but

    IMO
Tracksuits don't really do anyone any favours (well very few anyway) so I'd never wear one except on the very very odd time that I decide that I will exercise (what tracksuits are for)
I would never wear one into town, but again, that's just me, I don't care that others do. I just don't think they look well wearing them, & would look so much better in a nice pair of jeans etc.
Also the tracksuits generally seem to be accompanied by the big hoopy earrings. Again, just an observation.

I'm not fashion conscious at all, but I try to make the most of myself (generally), tracksuits just don't make the most of anybody!!

    <joking.. I was joking!>

    Don't worry, agree completely.
Will accept that being from Dundalk will forever bring this type of comment, considering the number of pj tracksuits and the knackerish behaviour that can be seen on a regular basis here. I've decided that I'd like to be a stuck up snob, as opposed to one of them...

    Tracksuits = Leisurewear

If you wear a tracksuit it is usually cos you are feeling leisurely and couldn't be arsed with the 'lets get all dolled up rigmarole'..

If your main problem with this country is that too many women wear tracksuits, then I think you've got it handy ;)

That said, I really do have a problem with youngones (mainly South siders) who insist on wearing tracksuit bottoms with moccasin type shoes.. whats the story with that?!? :v:

Jokes aside, there are rules to wearing these kind of clothes alright.
ill fitted clothes whether dressy or casual - do no one any favours.
In fairness, half the country would be fleeced by Trinny and Suzannah if the were let loose.

I see, and take your point.

It makes you a snob for going on about it so much. Its the way some people dress, get over it!!

Would you like to make a list of everything else that is wrong with the Irish, just so we can tell you what you should say to the foreigners??

I think some girls look deeead sexy in tracksuits, plain ones mind you, not the one's with 'ATHLETIC' written accross the arse of them, they're just wrong.

Now, who said what about dundalk??

Ah but what if the tracksuit is a ghastly shade of lime green (as I've seen before... shudder...) and is accessorised with loads of tacky gold jewellry and orange make up?

So having a dislike for a particular fashion makes me a snob? How? Snobbery is looking down on people because you think you're better than them. If all my friends started wearing tracksuits all the time they'd still be my friends...

whhhhhhhoooooo..whoooooooooo.....watch out its the stlye police!!

    1. tracksuits are great for concealing stolen goods..."fu*k off riioht im pregnant!!!!"

    2. half them are pregnant so conceals the bump for a while..

    3. your already in sports gear when you need to leg it from security.

    4. bottoms come up and down and off and on easily for obvious reasons...most of their sh*gging is done in the back of stolen cars or in a field after 6 bottles of Ritz.

    5. Dark ones hide various stains usually some sort of human excretion.

    6. Matched with large hoop earings and a pony tail high on the head ya wont stand out from all the other jipknacks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,029 ✭✭✭um7y1h83ge06nx

I'm living in Limerick and here tracksuits seem to be like an uniform for scumbags. It seems that the tracksuit wearing brigade are either on the giving or receiving end of a shooting or stabbing.

That may seem awfully unfair and stereotypical, but it's a fairly widespread feeling around here.
