I went over on my ankle earlier playing football. Hurt like hell for 30 seconds but then was not too bad for about 5 minutes. After that it hurt a bit (I wasn't able to play on but managed to walk out of the place without too many problems). Got a train and walked back to my house without too many problems and then I lay down for about 90 minutes and now it hurts like hell.

It's not swollen but I've never had a sprain hurt like this before. How can you tell if it's just a sprain or if you've broken something? I can't put any weight on it anymore. Obviously if it still hurts like this tomorrow I'll be making a trip to the hospital, but for now would just like to know if I can tell myself whether I've broken anything or not.

very hard to say, its something only a trained hand could feel and even they cant feel it if its a fracture. Your best bet is to elevate it, have it higher than your heart and put loads of ice on it. If its very sore go to the hospital. Sunday evening means smaller queues, it may need an x ray.
