Just wondering has anyone tried Nutrition X's new pro x platinum, its a great tasting protien and mixes very well. Its also the best value protien around, you can get a 4lb tub for €50 or two for €80 on fitness ireland. has anyone else tried it or got any opinions on it good or bad?

oooh, Dragan might have something to say about that.... he gets sponsored by Nutrition X :p

aparently it is a good quality protein though, had a fight with him this evening about Nutrition X vs. Nutrisport for the quality of the amino acid content in the whey.

Dragan- lookin forward to my vanilla whey :D

NO worries, you'll get it. And the Pro X is a quality product, and at 80euro it's not bad price wise at all.

And i WISH i was sponsored by them. Just some product testing and the like is all. :D

product testing/ sponsorship.. meh, its all freebies!!! (jammy baxstard..)

so, what is the difference between good/ bad quality proteins? amino acids are jsut that, teh simplest molecule found in protein, how can they differ between products? obviously how well it blends/ cost/ taste is a factor, but do wheys not all have the same essential a.a.'s?

iirc differenet some amino acids are better the other and most the good quaility ones end up in baby food and the protein makers have just the left overs i found some good articles here haven't got access in work but there's an article in the supplement/ nutrition section by a guy involved in the protein industry thats quite good, also while your there check out the paul check article

I think this was aimed more at free advertising.

Not likely, judging by the name he is using this would be a guy who posts on fitnessireland.ie as well. Chances are he read my review and is just looking for some second opinions is all.

And for the G'em, the amino acid profile is the most ignored but most important part of any protein product, after all, something may be 28 grams of protein per serving, but does this matter if those protein sources are ****??

I can assure you it wasn't free advertising. With so many different companys on the market and with prices differing so much, i was hoping to use this forum as a source to get unbiased opinions on nutrition x. As far as i can see and i'm no expert the protien powder is as good as i've tasted and i have tried a good few, but admitedly i'm mainly going by taste, how it mixes and what it says on the tub. But if by doing this i'm advertising a good product i have to problem with that, but i reckon very few people using this forum don't already know about it so i think that makes joejoems point void. The only money i'll be makin out of this post is the money i'd be savin on other more expensive protiens. what about Casein protein has anyone an opinion on that the only one i see in shops is Tony Quinns but i wouldnt be so sure about his products. The big question i have is, is it better than whey i've read lots of different opinions from its the only protien you should use to using it at certain times of the day and Whey at other.

Whey is more fast acting, so is better for first thing in the morning , just after your workout etc, casein is slower acting so is normally taken by people before bed.

To be honest, for most people it is not really required to include casein, even though it is a great idea to do so.

Here is a breakdown of how the two different proteins react within the body and give the percentage elevate of blood level amino acids after consumption.

    Whey
1 hour after consumption to 300%
2 hours after consumption to 92%
3 hours after consumption baseline levels.

    Casein
    2 hours after consumption 32%
    4 hours after consumption 35%
7 hours after consumption still slightly elevated.

just wondering i read somewhere that ordinary skim milk is broken down into 75% casein and 25% whey protein, do you know if this is true and if so could milk be considered an alternative to casein before bed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

Thats the protein break down in milk but to get a good dose you need to drink a good bit of milk, cottage cheese is better if you can stomach the taste.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

Even if true it would be unpractical. the average protein per mils of milk is 3grams per 100mils, so you would need a litre before bed.

Don't forget that uninteruppted sleep in very important also.

well that's grand, but so long as all the required a.a.'s are there does it matter where the protein came from? You'll break down the protein once ingested anyway and metabolise it as a.a.'s so surely as long as check the a.a.'s present in the whey, making sure everything you need is there its all good??

    come on, I'm a scientist, y'know I gotta question everything ;)

I guess i can't really explain it other that to say that different types of protein will always have different amino acid profiles, sure, everything might be there but in what doses?

    I'm not a scientist you see!! :D

well then maybe it'd be worthwhile for someone to find out what the a.a. profiles are for all the wheys and post it? surely that's what it all comes down to.. and no, that's not an offer from me to do it

I'll see what i can find.

General rule of thumb, if you can't find it, it ain't good. :D
