My Pace Sky+ V2 Box Updated at 4.15am this morning:

    Manufacturer: Pace
    Model No: 4.005
    Version No: 9F2106
    Operating System: 1.31A01
    EPG: sky+4.000

Initally all seems well apart from accessing the "All Channels" menu which now displays gaps between channels,in particular throughout the Entertainment section with very noticable gaps down aroung the 229 mark, where it is one channel, gap, next channel and so on,it makes scrooling this menu very difficult.

Yea same here, wow that was fast I am thinking, or am I missing something? last few times it was a few weeks after the first lot (V1) got the update.

So far everything looks ok and box has not ceashed!...yet.

Got the update here as well and also needed to reboot this morning.

Mine's updated here as well.. no gaps in the listings though that I can see.

[edit] I stand corrected. There is under "All Channels".

Am I correct though in saying that aside from the planner moving to the green button and the radio changes, there's nothing really of note in this update?

how do you reboot a Digibox ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72,192 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Plug out at wall, wait ten seconds, back in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 868 ✭✭✭corm500

I am very much liking the option to view favourite channels only on the epg. Is there still a limit on the number of favourites you can have ?

    Corm500

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,140 ✭✭✭Gregor Samsa

As far as I know, the favourites limit has been upped from 20 to 50.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

You can now have 50 favourite channels that will appear in an EPG of their own when you press TV Guide and then the BLUE button.

Also, I think this upgrade also includes the option to add a programme to your planner using the GREEN button during special ads that have an interactive icon on them. So, it saves you having to look for the programme on the EPG, press GREEN during the advert and the digibox automatically adds it for you.

    Live Pause issues ironed out?

    Anyone?

    Anyone?

    Bueller?....

Got it here too, live pause is working... for now anyway.
The favourite only TV guide would be handy to FTA viewers.

no update for me yet  do you need to have the phone line connected ?

updates happen over satellite. no need for a phoneline

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,445 ✭✭✭✭watty

NO. All Sky updates are by satellite.

    i got my update.

    Pace
    4.005
    9F2106

    OS: 1.31A0I
    EPG: sky+4.00o

And i was expecting Sky+ to be last on the list after the digibox's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭Charlie

Anybody have any idea as to when the V3's will get the update. AFAIK it's only V1 + V2 sky+ boxes they're doing at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,525 ✭✭✭Tony H

after getting the update i lost all my sky+ options no record, no pause ,no planner , tried a system reset twice , a mains reset once , then i had to do a full system reset which fixed the problem but lost all my recordings , everything seems ok now though .

Got the update - Pace v2 box.

The green button doesn't really help all that much it's too far away from the Tv Guide button to make going to the Planner any quicker/easier (yes i know that I'm being very lazy but the idea WAS to make it easier).

Also the box says that Stargate Atlantis will require 14%!!

100% agree with there being no saving of effort with the green button.

And yes I feel that my HD free percentage has dropped!!!!! Compression ratios changed??

Unlike Tivo or analog input PVRs the Sky+ does NO recompression at all. It records the satellite data "as is" (adding an extra layer of encryption, so FTA can't be played back in a PC), which is why the card has to be valid on playback.

They are reserving space for background downloading of Sky Box office or other stuff to give "instant" fake "video on demand"

AFASIK the 160G new sky+ boxes come with 80G already reserved.

Yes, you are correct. 80GB is hidden from personal use

Well that would explain it. But that would p**s a lot of people off. Particularly those who have done self HD upgrades. How dare they take our HD space.

P.S. I may be wrong and blaming SKY for my kids running a muck over the last day or two. I must look a bit closer.

Does this only affect the 160GB boxes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 124 ✭✭barrera

Did the reboot and still no picture - my Sky Guide etc works, detailing all the channels but no picture, of live TV or recorded stuff on +.

Also, if I'm not recording something, I always plug out the Sky+ box overnight, as I find the box heats up a lot - should I not be doing this?

The pace 80GB has another 80 reserved too for this purpose.

yes heard this one too, but i thought it was only this box that had HD space reserved, not the 160box.

Also the box says that Stargate Atlantis will require 14%!!

I've got this problem too, but acording to the guys over on Digital Spy it's only a very minor bug affecting some boxes. Apparently any future recordings you have in your personal planner display double the percentage required, so an hour long show now claims to need 14%, but will only use the 7% when it records.

And it only affects programmes you had in your planner at the time of the update. Any recordings you add now or ones that get added by the series link will display the correct percentage. So, nothing to worry about, no-ones hard drive space has been compromised.

Well when I was replying, I thought he meant the current Pace 80GB box, which is really a 160GB box, just not advertised as such.

To my knowledge, the Thomson 160 gives you the 160GB for recording.

    oh I dunno.

Yes thats it, the 80gb one that looks like the 160box, has an actual 160gb drive in it 80 of them hidden

Something happened to my digibox (pace V3) - I,ve lost all the channels I had stored in the "other channels"

This happened a couple of months ago also and I assume that I will now have to put them all back in again

Other than that the old box is still the same

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

I self upgraded from 40GB to 120GB and I would be seriously p*ssed off if sky steal 60GB form me.

just got this reply from SKY :
    Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that in order for you to receive any updates on Sky software on your V3+ Box, you will need your digiboxes phoneline connected at all times.

I trust this information assists with your enquiry. Should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me at the above email address.

    Kind regards

    Customer Administration
 , i thought you didn't need to have a phoneline connected.

Reading about all the updates Im getting jealous. I jus have an old Sky digibox, 5 or 6 years. How do I get it? Or do I just have to wait. Ive powered off and on but no effect. Does the phone line have to be connected as stated in above post?

you dont, updates come via satellite

It's just standard policy that they want all Sky+ boxes connected. (To know what you're watching/recording?). It will update with out phone line despite what Sky said.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭god's toy

Just as mine did, (V2 box) never once has it been connected to a phone line.

AFAIK, the phoneline is only for convenience of ordering Sky Box Office events and other Interactive material like Email etc, which in turn, means more revenue for Sky!

I don't think they'd be allowed to monitor your viewing habits without your consent? It woudl contravene privacy laws of some sort.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

AFAIK you agree to such monitoring when you sign the contract.

Maybe so, though it's the first I heard of Sky actively monitoring viewing habits of customers.

I still don't think they do or can do. I must read the small print on the contracts on Monday. I'll probably need a magnifying glass! :)

Sorry for going off topic there! Still no update on my Pace 430 :(

Got the update on my V2 sky+. I hate the press green for the planner.
