    DIT Forum Charter

    Starting Threads

Topics should be relevant to DIT.

If your post fits in one of the following threads, please post it there:

    Off Topic Chat

Things to do during lecture gaps

    Accomodation Thread

    Student Surveys*

Personal attacks will result in a ban. Repeated offenses will result in a permanent ban. This includes naming personalities from College in a disparaging manner.

*Permission from a Moderator is required to post in this thread. Please contact one of the mods listed below to post here. Ts and Cs apply.
    Pimping, Selling and Advertising

No pimping, selling or advertising of any kind will be tolerated - unless it has been expressly allowed by a moderator**. This includes buying/selling books. Use adverts.ie or put up a poster in college.

An instant 2 day ban will be issued for this.

**Permission will only be given in exceptional circumstances.
    Continuing Threads

Replies should be kept on-topic. We realise that threads may naturally "drift", but there are limits. If you want to chat take it to the Off Topic Thread or Facebook etc.
    Reporting & Moderating

If you see a post that you think contravenes either the DIT Charter or the Boards.ie rules in general, please report it, by hitting the Report Post Button (report.gif) at the bottom of each post. Do not challenge other posters on thread. Clicking this icon will alert the Forum Mods to the post in question and it will be dealt with as they see fit.

The Moderators of this forum will not discuss their moderating in threads - it drags things off topic. Questioning a mod on thread will earn you a 2 day ban from the forum. However, moderators are more that happy to discuss their moderating via PM if you feel they have been overly harsh/lenient etc.. If you are still unhappy after that, you are free to take it up with a CMod or to start a thread in the Dispute Resolution Forum.

Moderators will warn individuals of unacceptable behaviour, but not on a repetitive basis. Repeated infractions will result in bans.
    Civility

Every poster is entitled to their opinion - whether it is ill-informed or not.

Never attack a poster. Attack the content of their post. (You can tell someone that their opinion is based on incomplete or incorrect information, but do not call them an idiot.)

Keep your language civil, particularly when referring to other posters.

While good-natured abuse will be tolerated to a certain level, it is ultimately the moderator's decision as to when abuse steps over the line. Please bear this in mind.
    Links to questionable material

Some links to material that some people may find disturbing may arise during the course of a discussion. We (the moderators and admins) reserve the right to edit or delete these links if they are determined to be off the topic or otherwise not relevant to the conversation. We may also pull the link if it is particularly graphic or obscene. If you are going to link to potentially offensive material then be sure to include a clear warning as to the nature of the material you have linked (i.e NSFW tags).

Please note also that boards.ie can be held liable in court for whatever you post. Stupid? Yes. It's Irish Law though. With this in mind, moderators will remove, without any warning whatsoever, any content they feel may put boards.ie at risk legally. We trust you understand this matter.
    Trolls

Don't feed trolls. Let them starve and die, or be killed off by a mod - whichever happens first.

    Updating posts

Posts which have information that is out of date or no longer relevant will be deleted/edited by the Mods. This is not to take away from the contribution the poster made originally, it is to ensure that New Posters and New Students don't get confused by conflicting advice/guides.

If you notice any information throughout the forum that is out of date or no longer applicable, please bring it to the attention of the forum Mods so that we can change/update/get rid of it. Contact by PM any time.
    No Text Speak.

There is no character restrictions on Boards posts, so there is really no excuse for doing it. Posts with 'txtspk' will be edited. Unless they are really bad, then they will be deleted.

    Repeat offenders will receive warnings/infractions/bans
    Duplicate Accounts

Any user suspected by the moderators of using a duplicate account on the forum will have the duplicate account(s) and their original account banned permanently from the forum. The moderators will also petition the admins to Siteban the duplicate accounts as well.
