We're back tomorrow...balls

Well we're back in University College Dublin...wait for it...Dublin tomorrow and is anyone else like me feeling very apprehensive about going back? I think it's because my first semester was a big disaster study-wise and I didn't learn very much.

Now it's back to going to bed early, getting up early, 9 am starts, coming in at 10 and missing your 9 am start, awkward social situations, rip-off prices (paying for sauce? My arse), essay after essay after essay before...oh good! Another essay...

Then there's the realisation that exams are approaching fast and that failure is a possibility.

    It's oh so very depressing.

Someone cheer me up with a far more uplifting scenario. Ok...wait for it...now!

Fcuk that I can't wait to be back!

Just to hang around the Department of Lung Cancer at least... Only 15 more weeks enjoyment is what's left for me. Makes me all sad inside. Maw.:(

But for now I'm just happy that the adventure shall be resumed!

Never even started a Politics project (worth 25% of the course) that I'm supposed to hand in tomorro, but screw it, I'll beg borrow or steal an extension. Mwa-ha-ha!:D

It's about being asked to do work though. Also I've no idea when my courses start tomorrow since they change with the semester. Anyone else the same? :v:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

looking forward to being back, though having to accept that I got none of the stuff I promised myself I'd do over the holidays done so I'm in just the same position as I was when I left:(
Also I don't know my timetable so I'll have to try to be in at 9, haven't been up that early in weeks so it'll be a very ill looking humbert around college tomorrow!

Yeah that 6 week break was a pain in the tits tbh.

    Roll on 2nd Semester!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Slippers

Not looking forward to going back and don't know my time table because one of my units never happened last semester and I'm still looking for a replacement.
I tried the Applied Language Centre, no courses. I don't think there is a 'History and Philosophy of Science' course this year. I did three subjects in second year: Statistics says I can't do any more statistics courses this year, I almost failed Computer Science and the most interesting course (Visual Computing) was on in Semester 1, I can only find three Pass Maths courses timetabled for Semester 2 and I'm already doing one of those so it's looking like I have to choose between Complex Analysis and Combinatorial Mathematics.:(

i have no feelings at all ;)

Six bloody weeks, and what have i accomplished? I haven't even completed that computer game i said i might as well finish. I haven't been up before 1 in ages. Bring semester two on! I need to bring some productivity back into my life..............no wait, I don't actually work in college. Well thats gonna change!

Ha I almost believed myself there. Long live laziness.

Panda, let's keep our relationship issues separate from Boards. Please. Back on topic, yeah I'm still pretty uneasy about tomorrow but Refresher's week is back so that cheers me up somewhat.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Slippers

It's only Refreshers' Day I'm afraid. (Monday 23rd)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

Yea what's this refreshers week that's been mentioned, I missed the first month or so of this year so missed freshers week:mad: can I join stuff or is more just events for first years?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Slippers

    From an e-mail:

    "...

This year we have planned a Refreshers' Day on Monday, 23 January, to
give everyone a second chance to join clubs and societies and to meet
new people. This will take place in the Student Centre from 12.00 to
7.00 p.m. and the Students' Union is organising an event in the Centre
Club that evening. If you feel that you did not avail of the
opportunities on offer last semester and would like to get involved in
a new activity, then Refreshers' Day is an ideal opportunity to join a
    club or society.

    ...

    Vice-President for Students"

MNG, since you're a fellow history and politics person I can fill you in on your times! What options are you doing?

I'm not in until 4 tomorrow... it's great! But then tuesday starts the 9 o'clock starts for the rest of the week... ugh

What week is next week considered? As in, two of my tutorials start on week 23, is that next week does anyone know?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

I thought next week was week 20?

Could be, the tutorial is every second week, maybe it's not on for anyone on the first two weeks?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 321 ✭✭elle

Yeah some tutorials don't start for another two weeks which is fine by me!!! Was dreading going back. Now that i know I've only twelve hours this week it's really not so bad! Think I'd be more inclined to go to college if it was just lectures, not into this tutorial thing at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

yea hate tutorials and labs, wouldn't college be great without them:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭BKtje

lol yeah. no tutorials, practicals/labs. Great stuff :D

    Go to SIS web
    Click on Information for Students
    Click Registration
    Click Student Detail Schedule

It should then list each module and each tutorials you've registered for the second semester. It will give your tutorial dates too.

    I *think* semester 1 = week 1 to 12 / 6 week break = weeks 13-18 / semester 2 = weeks 19 - 33 (including 3 week spring break)

so by my guessing if you're starting on week 23 that would be sometime around February 20th which does sound odd. What subject is this out of interest?
