I spoke to someone about some sort of suppliment that aids sleep. It helps you drift into a deeper sleep faster and you feel rehabilitated and refreshed in the morning. I think one of the main ingredients is Zinc.

I rarely get my 8 hours anymore, allot of nights I get home at 11:30 from work/college/gym and by the time I have showered and done whatever I am falling asleep at 1am and then awake at 7 or 7:30. It would be great if I could get something to aid my recoup time.
    Cheers

You might like to try Valerian, it's another herbal remedy and comes in tablet form. Most health food shops or alternative medicine clinics will stock it.

    Have you used it?

I have used it before, sometimes training finishes at 10pm and its takes me a while to fully unwind after.

It works alright, you can get it in drops, tablets or herbal tea. Natures way stock it, can be a hard to stomach, smells a bit like old socks : ). The also stock a product called '5 HTP' that helps increase your serotonin levels which helps you to sleep. Make sure you do some research on this product before trying.

Another one for helping sleep is glutamine. There was a post on this last week.

iirc 5-htp while being a precursor to serotonin it can't actually pass the blood brain barrier so its pretty useless as a serotonin anatagonist.

Playing with your serotonin levels can be haphazard. Serotonin is a very important neurochemical, and I think there was a study showing serial killers all shared a very low level of it. It's also the release of serotonin that is responsible for the effects of ecstasy. Supplementing could lead to your body underproducing because it thinks it's meeting it's levels.

Im not an expert by any means, but going by what ive heard, definately one that should be read up on.

i have problems sleeping too. Stay away from prescibed sleeping pills from the moment. I used to take xanax but I just got reliant on them. The one thing I have found to work very well are tablets that you can get from boots called 'Kalms'. Contain some herbs. I took one at 11 last night and actually got to sleep fairly quick (usually its at least 12.30) and they dont make you feel to tired the next morning

A simple 'oul couple of blows from a spliff and your all set for the land of nod.

Otherwise, the next best thing is to watch telly in bed, maybe something boring and sh*t like Corrie/Eastenders/Emmydale.

This is the Tallaght way. :)
