Given the horrible wobbliness that Christmas has brought I need to get to a gym...fast

I know that the one in DCU is open to both students and public which is why I posted here(sorry mods if im wrong)

So does anyone belong there, is it good value, what are the classes like?

    Thanks

As gyms go it would be middle of the road. However it should more than suffice, is clean and although I don't know about the classes, the uni's all seem to have a good range of classes.

Having done a price check this morning, I found that dcu was fairly steep (by my budget anyways). 100 joining fee & 520 yearly fee for non students. And there is no option to pay monthly. I'm 100% goin down to the ALSAA gym near the airport.. 33 per month for great facilities. Sounds like I'm touting but I just couldn't get over the price difference :o

*please not that I'm not touting

Last I checked DCU was 175 euro for six months for students...

It does look very crowded in the evening doesn't it?? Any tips for a newbie going to the gym.......I have awful notions of people laughing their hearts off at me trying to use the equipment...

I saw the pool btw...incredible..they have foot baths and showers there too..looks great..

yeah im laughing at ya right now!
no seriously dont worry about anyone laughing, everyone has to learn and its admirable that your are starting to go to gym.ask an instructor to do a routine for you and show you how to do it,then you wont use the machines in a way others will derive humour from!

to the person considering alsaa there another gym near by called sportslink-its 155euro a year and 3/4 euro every time you go,its a pretty good gym but the pool is extra to use.also ben dunne is opening a gym soon beside santry stadium that will be better than alsaa at around same price.

The DCU gym is alright, definately not worth 520 a year, since you can go to a way better gym for that price. I'm a student so I joined for 12 months and it was around 200, which is about all the gym is worth. The pool is nice though. There are a good few classes on, they're good.

    Here's the classes http://www.dcu.ie/sportsclub/fitness_schedule.pdf
