    I've just downloaded GTR demo:

    http://www.pcgameworld.com/downloads/file.php/id/5752

but after I install the game, it tells me my pc is below minimum spec. I would have taught my Pc would be okish:

    Asus A7N8X motherboard
    AMD Athlon XP2500+ 1.833 GHz
    1.5 Gigs or RAM
    Radeon 9800 graphics card
    XP Pro

Am I missing something? I've heard of ppl with less RAM and not as good graphics cards being able to play the game

Odd, I used to run the demo fine on my old machine: XP1800+, GeForce4Ti4600
However I have read of many people having problems running it.

    EDIT: http://forum.rscnet.org/forumdisplay.php?f=754
It's a very long thread - but it may help.

    Must be a bug. Running (AMD64 3k + 1GB 2700 + 9700 Pro + XP Home) here & both GTR demos worked flawless.

Try Demo Index (demoindex.com, I think), and locate + download the earlier demo, and see if that solves it? That's assuming you've got the later one (if not, reverse the above & try the newer demo).

BTW, anyone here playing GTLegends (full version)?

Still in Mini myself, just not had any time to spend on the darn thing since I got it at Xmas  (I sure ain't got no time to be bored, ;) @ your sig')

Boy that second 'night' track is vicious :D

Do you know (m)any Irish players playing it online? I'm looking to take 'gentle' baby steps in the online racing world (I mostly play BF2 these days, but I'm a true petrolhead at heart, not so much cannon fodder :D )

There are quite a few Irish GTL players out there, most are playing in uk racing leagues like the one below mainly because there are too many nobs in the public servers deliberately running people off the road.

    Yeah GTL lover here.
I used to run a Nascar league but formed our GFF clan/community ,currently running 3 servers for BF2,COD2 and DOD-S.
None of our lads are into simracing however but ya never know me might look into a GTL server.

well well well, a BF2 and GTL afficionado, just like myself :)

I'm-a-gonna have to sort that 'preferred server list' in BF2 (got to learn how that works first :o ) so I can play with you GFF guys more often, and try and sort some GTL online racing with ya... Planning myself a frag-fest and rubber-burning-fest overdose next week while the wife is away :D

lol i get that all the time cept they mention gran turismo instead.
You should try GT Legends,it uses an improved physics and gfx angine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,994 ✭✭✭ambro25

Not to mention that I doubt you'll get any gfx woes either: GTL (both the demo and now the full game) runs dandy on my desktop (AMD64/1GBram/9700Pro) but also sweet as what-have-you on my not-really-a-gaming-beast D600 lappie (Centr1.6/512MBram/ATI9000-32MB)...

In hindisght, silly of me, I should have recommended the GTL demo to you instead, the first time around :D

    Yup, 'sure is :)

Speaking of GTL, just got it and enjoying it. Doesn't really feel as good as RBR though :/ I feel kinda detached, and can never tell when the car's losing grip :/
Maybe I don't have my DFP set up properly with it yet.
Anyway, it's pretty good. What's the first car I should buy after earning a bit?

...and just to make us want even more rubber-burning mayhem.....

    GTR2!

    http://www.gamershell.com/download_12313.shtml

Basically GT Legends graphics with the GTR cars - as gorgeous as GTL is, I still prefer driving the modern GT cars so I'm pretty damn excira about this!:D

awww. I'm sure it'll be a great game and all, but we've just had a good GT simulator. I'd prefer to see more varieties of racing available. Though I understand if they're wanting to make the most of the FIA licence they paid for :)

They should make the official UTV RPM Irish Formula Vee, or something :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭smokingman

formula Vee? not as exciting as 500 BHP machines if you ask me.....

be nice to play something like that though.

Good question. Did two Cup races with the entry-level Lotus and now got 30k (woo-hoo :D ) burning a hole in my pocket.

Should I keep saving until 100k or so for the 911, or just grab that Austin Healey...decisions, decisions

Also, didn't look into it and can't right now, but can I part-ex the auld ones (to bump up the cash) ? :D

You lads should try rFactor too,its the same engine as GTL but much more variety of racing series.
Has both GT type racing and open wheelers with F3,F1 etc.
No need to travel to acquire it either, just download it and pay 34 euros with paypal for your activation code, top class sim.
Get it here,oh and theres a demo too.

Continuing to take over this thread in the name of GTL (this forum is too low-volume right now :( ):

wooo, okay, I'm getting used to it now. All the feedback is more subtle than RBR and now that I'm used to the cortina, I can feel when it's crossing the limit :) Excellent game :) After putting around on mondello in the mini for a while, I changed to the cortina and thought I'd never get the hang of rear wheel drive (the same way I felt playing LFS) but after persisting a bit with medium assistance I was able to control it, then I went back to mondello with no assistance and was able to put in laps that felt pretty good :)

I have a question though, is there a way to play a cup with no assistance but medium AI? I prefer driving the real thing, but I'm not good enough to take on the best of the game's opponents :(

Dude, just turn the assists off with the number key shortcuts when racing in a lower-than-professional race. You get less money to spend but you can get through the cups easily enuf.

whats the physics like in this?

whats the physics like in this?

    They are the best.
Both GTL and Rfactor use Gmotor2 engine if im not mistaken.
    Superb physics.

Ahhh... Since my last post, I've unlocked the Abarth! That thing is awesome. The way you just lift off the throttle and it tightens itself in, it's so lively! A delight to drive :) I haven't driven a porsche yet. Is that what all rear-engine cars are like?

And then the mustang. That's a lot more forgiving than I thought it would be. You can slide it around intentionally and have a great time with it. And the sound is delicious :)

I still haven't bought anything yet, just been saving credits :) I'm about 4 points ahead in my mustang in the last cup of the second category. Two races left to go :) This game is really something else :)

Thanks for the tip smokingman. I'll try that out when I get home.

And that 'thing' of a car (;) ) sounds just so well... :)

If you want to try the Porsches (911/914) and others (except the unlockables - yummy, there's some beauts!), go visit the 'Car Dealer', select a car, and take it for a spin (3 small tracks to choose from, Magny Cours (middle one) tends to get my preference).

    ;)

I tried playing around with that, but wasn't sure what I was doing. What keys do what?

Can't remember off hand but they are mappable in the controls config

    :D:D Snap !
I couldn't wait long enought to earn enough to buy the cars.
The 911 around Nordschleife is something else !

Online I usually join in the pistonheads gang. sometimes they have a server, sometime everyone just joins a public server.
Good clean racing, although I'm usually last !

    Enjoy !

Having to unlock all the cars is a load of bolx imo. I didn't pay up so that I could spend hundreds of hours driving around with the AI who just keep shunting me off the track.

I've now 'unlocked' all the cars too and finally have a decent racing game ......... straight online and play with real peeps :D

Awesome game for sure but I still prefer GTR ...........so now I've returned this thread back to GTR hehe ;)

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,723 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

lads lads lads i know ive said it before but if you enjoy GTL you really should get rfactor.
Same engine but much more types of racing vehicles/series.
Its like GTL but with many many more games included, only 35 yoyos for verification key,400mb dload and your off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭Balfa

Haha... I put GTL on hiatus for a bit (BF2 and PES5!) but I've just returned to it and completed the elan one-make cup (in stage C cups). Argh, I don't ever want to touch an elan again. Hate the thing. It's far too twitchy for me. Does anyone have a good setup that smooths it out a bit?

Says he, refusing to let this off-topic thread die :)

On another note, I still can't figure out turning off the assists at low difficulties (amateur is what I play at). I couldn't find any mappings for ABS, TCS, etc. in options o_O

One more thing, what's the best car to use in David and Goliath 2 (again in stage C cups)?
