Listen chickens... don't go worrying yer little heads about what "Mammy" said.

She has enough brass in her neck to ride out any storm that may accrue.

The "foot in the mouth family" have been at it for yonks...."Crisis?.. What crisis?" and are still around despite a fairly serious deficiency in the grey matter.

Have no worries... "Mammy " who shrugged off the Eircom fiasco among others will have no trubble(sic) shrugging off this one

she could make up for this by giving a contract to some construction firm for work that needs to be done in her constituency, getting them to hire some blacks and then getting the blacks to paint her house.

i base the following on personal experience:

blacks are lazy as fu*k, especially nigerians. any time i have worked with blacks they have been really negligent in their work, pushy about getting every little benefit they feel they are entitled to, very lazy, very ignorant, basically they were just complete dickheads. all they did was stand around talking and drinking coke. they had no intention of doing anything even remotely physical and acted as if we owed them something. they seem to be under the illusion theat they are here for a free ride off our hard earned money. those who did actually work were english. africans are just not suited to this culture. several of them were muslim and stopped to pray 3 or 4 times a day. i regularly caught some of them "praying". this usually consisted of going into an empty house for some sandwiches and a chat.

the term "works like a black" is no longer a compliment.

She really should resign, First of all she f*cks up the countries Communications sector by privatising Eircom, (anyone get a broadband line test fail lately???) Or worse still not have the exchange enabled at all?? The woman is as ignorant as they come and i hope she gets her commupance on election day like she did last time by being the first person to be dumped by electronic voting :D:D:D and now that that is scrapped costing us tax payers Millions of €€€€'s it will at least stop those Fianna Fail traitors from having the opportunity of hacking the vote and rigging it George W. Bush style. Anyone who votes for this government please report to you local hospital for have your brain inserted expect witing times of around 20yrs though with all the resource gone into feeding Mary Harney

There are somethings that are no longer acceptable but no offense is meant. She should have known better but it doesn't make it a racist comment.

Stupid yes but not racist. I really think to call it racist is actually making matters worse and lessens true problems. Over compensation is just as bad

    Id go along with that

Resign for this? Christ of almighty...of everything her party's done in the last however many years it's been in power, when have even one of them resigned over serious matters? We had them sent to jail, in the dock at tribunals, etc etc and still not one of the bollocks' would resign....this is not a resigning matter; the other crap she got up to, maybe, but it's a bit late for that now...

Whatever about her being "set in her ways" she's a representative of the people in our government...

Do we really want someone who's so "set in her ways" that she can't make a simple change to not use a phrase that can be construed as racist?

I'm all for not being overly-PC, wouldn't use the phrase myself but I can see what other people would mean when they say it. They use it in an "it's just an expression" kind of way and not in a racist way...

My point is that someone who's voted by the people to represent them should have a bit of cop on and put their best foot forward. I could give two ****s what she says in the comfort of her own home, down the pub with her mates or whatever but when she's speaking at a televised event, going out to every home in the country that has RTE on in front of them she should have a bit of common sense and watch her words...

Is this really someone you want representing you and your constituency? Someone without a bit of sense that doesn't think about what they're saying and how it could be construed?

Ya see, that's the thing. She's not. She lost her seat in the last election, and then got a free ride into the Seanad, which is not elected by the public.
However much I dislike her, I do agree with the others that said they think there was no racist intent behind her remark, it was just a stupid thing for a public figure to say.

Its hard to credit that idiots like this get to run countries. At this stage in the game there should be some kind of degree course or something that you have to study before you can even run for office. Its bloody amazing that any clown with a brass neck and a thick skin can get elected if they have friends in the right places. Between bogus degrees and this kind of carry-on it really is no surprise the there are so many f**kups in government and the usual response is to keep you head down and let it blow over until something worse happens.
