Why was Mikado shut?

Just found out today that Mikado has been shut down. It has been down for over month now I think but why was it shut down. I have read a number of posts on this forum on the post mikado views but none on why it was shut down. I never really used Mikado but I would like to know why it was shut?

Dunno if raptor is on boards, she could give exact info but I believe it's that because of trouble in Mikado's past, like with tuborg's scat and such, the college is having a review if it's a good idea to have Mikado or what can they do to make it safer. Could be gone for good, could be back in a few weeks, best keep checkin mikadosoc.ie for the updates

It has only been down since last Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hopefully twil be back soon.

One thing I am sure of. The NUIM online community will always exist. Whether Mikado returns, or a new service with new rules sanctioned by the college is set up to replace it, or even going outside the Uni altogether by moving to Boards, people on-campus will always find a way to communicate.

As to why Mikado was shut, few people know any details. What is known is that the VP of NUI Maynooth ordered the society to shut down the site in order to review its operation. There's no conformation of why this was done, and most likely won't be as this won't be dealt with till after exams from what I have been told.

Anything else is speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt. Maybe it was porn, maybe not. The fact is that people don't know and while it's all fine to debate what it could be, it's not going to change the fact that Mikado is closed.

I'd say they got one two many complaints, and shut it down, to see what they could do with it. May have something like to ban a user quicker, and disable them from reregistering a second later, to achive a spam free forum.

Mikado is a joke, the end, it got shut because it was giving maynooth a bad name, i heard students didnt apply to maynooth cause they seen the pics in the mikado photo section.:(

Well in fairness there are over 800 users online at the moment.The most Mikado ever had on at one time was what...well under 200?
I just began using this and am finding it a little difficult to navigate and get my bearings.

You show an amazing amount of ignorance as to how the world works when you post idiotic comments like that.

I know lots of people in Maynooth, some through having been a class rep, some through various clubs and socs, some I just talked to in class and got to know. I also met many people through Mikado that I would not otherwise have met.

I used Mikado as a means of communication to meet people. You know, that thing you do when you talk to people for the craic of it, rather than to piss them off? I could do without Mikado and am doung but it's nice to get to know people I can actually meet at some stage. You should try it sometime.

You see, your pathetic comments suggesting that mikado users don't have a life hold less water than a styrofoam cup with the bottom knocked out of it. I am involved in lots of societies, in the SU and I enjoy a very active social life off the boards. That is the case for most people on Mikado and on any other boards. Way to generalise, buddy.

Besides, by posting on this board, you're contradicting yourself. You go on about how sad it is to post on boards yet you do it yourself. And that is hypocracy.

I think implying that mikado users have no life and can't communicate with each other outside of it is a bit rich coming from someone with about three or four different accounts on it, who never meets up with anyone from mikado in person, and who up until recently was on it almost constantly.
