Yeah, it was concept released early last year. It got such a great response they began to think about actually releasing it.

MOTR, where did you see a price? $100 seems cheap!

    Seriously doubt that mate...
Started off as some dudes art project, got so much attention he's put it into production. Theres seperate LCD's for each key so $100 would be an understatement:). Id hate to see that thing blue screen tho:)

Hmm it does look nice but there has to be some downside.
Maybe its a resource hog or it is not as responsive as normal keyboards?
Now where can I get it over here ;)

A blue backlit keyboard? You mean the Saitek Gamers Keyboard?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭CivilServant

Brilliant find, motr! Considering the top end logitech keyboard & mouse go for over 200 eurons, this is a bargain.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭masteroftherealm

All the reviews are placing it between 100-200dollars.

Links? the only review I can see that mentions price is the Legit Refviews one, written in Sept '05.
It mentioned that the cost to make it was $200 approx, so I can't see it selling for less than $250 in that case.

    A form-rather-than-function kettle for $80.
It's a metal ball with a bit of tubing and a handle. For $80.
The keyboard will cost minimum of $200 and will suffer from damaged OLED in the course of normal typing usage.

    It's for Mac people/pe0ns

Komplett stocked those projector keyboards for a very short time, i dont think they still do tho. They'd be nice if you could use em for games.

    Final Thoughts:
The days of the plain and dull keyboard are hopefully coming to a close. With new innovative ideas like the Optimus keyboard by Artemy Lebedev nearly everyone that uses a computer will benefit from the new design. The only downfall to the new Optimus Keyboard is the cost. Right now the keyboard is still technically a prototype and the cost is hovering around US $200 to produce this keyboard. The good news is that the keyboard is slated to go into mass production next year and launched in the Summer of 2006, which should allow the price of the "new" technology go down. Organic Light-Emitting Diodes still have a price premium on them, but I'd pay the extra dime to be able to create my own keyboard icons. Changing the icons on your keyboard can be changed just like on your desktop meaning the ESC key can look like anything you want. Other good news is that the keyboard will be OS-independent with an open-source keyboard (SDK will be available). In closing I'll leave you with a close-up of the keys and their color icons.

So what, maybe 300-400 when it ships at the start?

that is one cool looking keyboard, i wonder could you change exactly what image is displayed on what key and the key's function

i use a mac keyboard and i sometimes get a bit annoying that the apple key (start in windows) is beside the space bar (ctrl and alt are beside each other)

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,257 ✭✭✭✭Standard Toaster

It's all just for show at the end of the day.
I mean, I find I don't even look at my keyboard when I'm typing.
I guess if your a gamer in a dark room it would come in handy.

I'd buy it for €150 max.

Those laser keyboards are meant to be a joke by the way. PC Format done a review of them ages ago. They decided to type the review on the keyboard... it was gibberish. It also got one of the worst ratings they ever gave for a keyboard.
As for the oLED board. Looks like it is a good idea and as the paek said. Its a Mac users kind of thing. I can see apple buying the rights tbh. (and shipping it with the next great mac that comes along  )

Still though. Fair dues to him. IT is a good idea and does look "nice".
