Article in the independent today http://www.unison.ie/irish_independent/stories.php3?ca=9&si=1536866&issue_id=13503 (requires free registration):
Poker player takes a gamble and packs up job

A 22-YEAR-OLD computer technician has quit his €30,000-a-year job - because he says he makes more money playing poker.

Nicky 'The Diamond' O'Donnell hopes to become a force to be reckoned with on the world poker circuit after jacking in his job at Limerick Institute of Technology.

He says he resigned after realising that he was making more money on-line gambling than he could ever make in a regular job. Nicky is one of 350 finalists at the Boylepoker.com Irish Poker Championship this weekend in Dublin and he has vowed to take Las Vegas by storm if he wins the €500,000 prize fund.

"I have only really been playing for three years. I got into the on-line poker about a year and a half ago and from practice and perseverance I have got really serious about it now," he said.

"I deposited dollars $400 (€330) to start me off a year and a half ago and I have never have to put any more money into my fund. I leave that balance and pay myself the equivalent of the average wage from my winnings."

Nicky is one of a growing number of young people who are now seeing poker playing as a legitimate career thanks to the web. "You can play whenever you want and most poker players earn their basic wage from the internet and in card rooms nowadays. It has opened it all up to people all over the world," he says.

"I have been working in Limerick IT as a computer technician but it got to the stage that I was making more a year playing poker on the internet so I have decided to jack in the job and become a professional player," he said.

Sounds like a certain boards member!;)
