    Really?

That should be interesting, very good game and I got the impression at the Sony E3 conference last year that the developers were really enthusiastic about trying to make the most of the next gen hardware. They've certainly shown a lot of innovation with what they've done with the game on current gen, compared to the hideous Knockout Kings game EA used to have.

Great, I was blown away when I seen this on tv. I bet it's f*cking amazing in person.

Where did you here about the demo being available. It would be great if we could find out in advance of demo's becoming available.

Looks to be alright. Alot of people are complaining (as usual) about the stiffness of the animations. I think it looks great.

Sure are. A few things missing like the 1st person view as your about to be knocked out and a few replay camera issues. A few clipping issues aswell. Does look incredible. Would love to be able to swing a free roaming camera around the ring aswell like thw photo mode in PGR3.

A magazine would be the best place to look. AFAIK you can't burn the demo yourself.

Downloading it now, luckily its only 486 mb's and not a whopping gig. Hopefully its a sign of thinks to come, with demos coming out before games are released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭Timans

Yeah, It is a great addition to the MarketPlace. Really helps me decide on what games to get. Shame about the length it takes to Download the Demos though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,719 ✭✭✭kaisersose77

Anything i've downloaded off marketplace has downloaded at nearly fully speed ( on 2mb dsl). The demo took about 30 mins max

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭danbhala

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭antifyre

I've heard it's disabled for the demo.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭JacoStanley

Might be, haven't come across it still. I have, however, streamed some of the rocky soundtrack through the 360 whilst playing FN3. Inspirational really. Looking forward to the full game with online fights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

it IS in the demo, my screen went into first person when i was given an uppercut once, completely random, but looked cool.

Very very impressed with it, probably the most interesting game yet in terms of what it does with the technology, the graphics look fantastic and the way they move(and morph) is particularly impressive to see, it seems to manage to mix excellent animation with near perfect physics to make the fight look really realistic, rather than the usual "play punch animation/play get hit animation/play fall animation" or the "perform dynamic but completely unnatural ragdoll physics calculations as the lifless body crumples in a heap" its finding a very happy medium. Or at least thats the impression I get. The current gen versions of the game were already quite impressive at this but this game takes it to a whole new level.

Also a lot of fun to play, was having some great two player fights. Looks like its gonna be a quality game, I hope the single player mode is interesting though because that's never grabbed me in boxing games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭JacoStanley

I'm gonna create a player model resembling Terry McCann. Providing EA don't skimp on this game like they have with the previous launch releases.

its rumoured to show the true potential of the 360

yeah this demo is amazing to look at & the facial deformation & flying swet & drool is something that has to be seen to be believed

great addition to the marketplace (which in itself is a great idea)

hopefully there will be more to come (im looking at you doa4 & dead rising!!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭lafors

Its well worth the 30/40min download.

Looks fantastic too. But does anyone else feel its a bit slow?
Not really slow, but could have been a bit faster.
Also in the slow mo of a knock down, it always shows the boxing glove halfway through the olads head, bit dodgy, hopefully this is just because its a demo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭niall2j

Downloaded it yesterday too....simply gorgeous game.

I love the way there's no energy bars/indicators, etc. yet the graphics are now advanced enough to show the condition of the fighter just by how he's looking and moving.

I would never have thought to buy a boxing game but this seems really good, although if I'm being picky I hope they improve the collision detection a little

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,295 ✭✭✭jonnybadd

Excellent, in both looks and gameplay. Was a big fan of the first fight night, but didn't get the next one as it was very samey (surprise surprise ea!) but this is awesome. My only fault would be that the single player is a bit easy, haven't had a chance to play two-player yet but should tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭madrab

yeah at one stage the fighters sorts disappeared so you were left with a floating torso & 2 legs, it was kinda wierd, but it only happened the first time i played

EDIT: seeing as how real the skin moves about, you can only imagine what dead or alives infamous cleavage will be like :)

Too easy to win with Hopkins but playing as Jones Jr makes more of a challenge, have to counter well to win.

deffo, Jones just doesnt seem to throw a punch as far, thus making it (for me anyway) almost impossible to land a decent dig on hopkins.

Keep setting challenges for myself in the demo to get more mileage out of it.

First it was to beat Roy as Bernard, did it first try by button mashing and stopping him.

Then it was to beat Bernard as Roy which was much more difficult, Bernard stopped me the first couple of times because I tried to slug with him but then I focused on blocking and countering more, I realised I could see punches coming by looking and Hopkins waist motion. This lead to me beating him.

Next go I won every round as Roy and then set myself up for a really hard challenge.

I went next to stop Bernard as Roy before the 4 rounds were up which is much more difficult to do as Roy Jones. Took me about a dozen tries and finally I did it by decking Hopkins 3 times in the 4th, he nearly got off the hook when we got into the last 10 seconds but then I decked him with a haymaker and it was all gravy. Anyone stopped him before the 4th?

Things I've picked out as a boxing fan.

1/ Jabs are not effective enough. In real boxing if you have a great jab you'll go far, I've seen fights won by just a good jab. A jab should stop your opponents foward momentum, allowing you to follow up with something else if you are quick enough. It also makes it impossible to fight a long range fight because the jab fails to do it's job and if someone wants to get on the inside all they have to do is walk through a weak jab. The straight right seems to do what the jab should do but the straight right actually pulls you inside rather than keeping you outside.

2/ Counters are too effective. The strategy of Fight Night seems way to hinged on counters to the point where everyone will fight a similiar style if they want to win more than lose. Game engine seems to force you into letting an opponent walk onto you so you can parry his shots and counter, seems the only way to be effective.

3/ I miss the mini game from the first Fight Night when you got knocked down where you had to align your vision before the game would let you get up, made you feel you were in control of your fighter more but now we have these pre animated things that just leave it up to comp stats if you get up or not.

4/ Too many knockdowns. You'd never see a fight in the modern age be let continue when someone has been floored 7 or 8 times, couple this with the fact that is over 4 rounds and it seems even more ridiculous, I'd like to see a bit more punch resistance. Also, there never seems to be any one knockdown KO's which there are plenty of in real boxing.

5/ Hopefully the commentating is fixed before general release. When he comments on how badly a fighter is being beaten when not a single punch has been thrown, it gets annoying.

Apart from that I think it is a great game, more of an arcade boxer than a boxing sim though. Closest game to real boxing would probably be Knockout Kings 2001. I'll definitely buy it as I seem to be playing the demo more than my other 360 games at the moment and I have 5 purchased games.

Yep thats written in the demo alright "winter 2006"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭JacoStanley

I'm still thinking they mean within the next 2 months. They'd never release a demo for a game that's 10 or 11 months off completion.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 632 ✭✭✭Tank Top Fever!

yea I kinda took Winter 06 as meaning November or December

    Hopefully it's out soon though

Looking forward to the next few months, Ridge Racer, Top Spin, and Fight Night on the horizon

i cant get over how good this demo is, hopefully the full game will be worth getting,
as hopkins, versus jones (as AI) i can get all 10's from judges, and 6 knockdowns was the best i could do.

EDIT: lafors, ive given KO's plenty of times, what i was trying to say, everytime i win, i cant sem too get more then 6, or 7 knockdowns throughout the match, its kinda fun trying to get as many as possible.
