ditto...but I believe they are within their rights to refuse to honour the order as it must be a mistake. From their Terms and Conditions of Sale:

"2.4 By placing an Order, you make an offer to us to purchase the Products you have selected on these terms and conditions. We may or may not accept your offer at our discretion."

    Worth a try though...

However it could be argued the confirmation email they send constitutes an acceptance.

I just ordered it aswell. Doubt it will happen, but you never know.

EDIT: I just dont they dont charge me the full 900 on the sly themselves

Actually no. It's not gonna happen. With so many people ordering they're gonna find out whats up. Has my card been charged now or do they only charge when shipping?

I never got a confirmation email — did anyone else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,451 ✭✭✭embraer170

I think our case in this particular error is a lot stronger than in most other recent price mistakes. (Not that it makes it worth pursuing)

Hope we don't have too many people buying 10 of them for that very reason.

I now got a second confirmation email.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭blahblah06

Theres no way in god earth you will get away with this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭joe316

havent got any confirmation email whatsoever, fingers crossed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭snappieT

I got my confirmation email also... looking good!

http://store.apple.com/Catalog/irl/Images/salespolicies.html lists the policies of sale, mentions nothing about them pricing incorrectly.

im just after getting one too, but its a different type of acknowledgement than my previous apple orders:confused:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭Elessar

Nah it is not going to happen. No way. Dell had some similar price fiasco a while back for a lcd TV, but people got email from them saying they couldnt sell at that price.

OP, if you had not posted this here there would have been a greater chance you could have got it for that price. But now, they'll know something is up.

Why do I always jump on the bandwagon! Ah well.

EDIT: I suggest the OP deletes the first post, to save other people the hassle

However the price of this digital camera is a lot more realistic to the ignorant consumer than that of previous pricing errors.

From a legal point of view, once your CC has been billed and you get your confirmation email, Apple doesn't have much of an argument.

(that said, I personally don't believe it to be worth pursuing)

It's a widely debated topic in the online sale of airline tickets and hotels rooms where mistakes are relatively frequent and online travel communities result in such errors generating 1000s of bookings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭Elessar

Well it appears that they wont charge your card until they ship, so we should be alright, no refunds needed etc.

If they DO accept our offer, with a confirmation email, then I think the law is on our side but regardless they will not allow it and its not worth following up.

Perhaps we should demand compensation! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭snappieT

That's the difference in the Order Acknowlegemnt emails.
For my ibook, I was told this was just informative, represented no legal stance, but the new one for the SLR mentions no such thing.
    *leaps around room in glee*

Well my second email (the confirmation one) sure makes it sound like I have been billed.

It's not going to happen unless someone is not watching the ball at Apple.

They don't commit to anything with the order confirmation; they can claim the camera is out of stock and decline the order on those grounds, and they don't commit to a sale price until the invoice is issued, up until then it's all just standard 'invitation to treat' stuff. I've ordered one of course, but would be REALLY surprised if anything comes of it.

I ordered one an hour or two ago and i've recieved an order acknowledgment email and an order confirmation email. I notice in the order confirmation it includes a discount of 660.98 (see attachment) which could help in actually trying to get one of these.

Oh, and they've now charged my credit card

It seems to me that the order confirmation email IS an invoice. I've never ordered from Apple before so I don't know if they send you a seperate invoice or what. If it is then they have accepted my offer of payment which is good.

Still not gonna happen though :(

It will never happen. A year or two ago the online retails might honor the first couple as goodwill and some free advertising. But these days not a chance.

The education store seems to be down now.

Once they charge your credit card, you're sorted.
If you are paying by credit card, then you must supply your credit card details when you place your Order. Your credit card will be charged when we issue your Invoice or on shipment of your Products. We will not commence the manufacture of your Products neither will we supply the Products to you nor perform the Services until your credit card issuer has authorised the use of your card for payment of the Products ordered.
I got my confirmation too. Now to remember my dad's 24-hour online details...

alarm bells will be ringing in apple when they return after the xmas break

and to the guy that said about compensation (notice he edited it out),ffs grow up

Expect a call/email from them any minute now.

Note to future self: Price errors do not a good purchase make.

Law of contract: Offer, Acceptance, Consideration.
We offered to pay them 100. They accepted (invoice), We gave consideration (Credit Card charged).

Contract is complete. We can sue for breach of contract if they don't supply the product.
