Well, what is the rarest car you have seen on the road - not on the news or in a pic, but actually on the road. This doesnt include the Enzo at the Park 2 years ago either. Or anything in the UK/europe/states etc.
For me its gotta be a RR Phantom, in Ballsbridge. Or perhaps a ferrari 288gto a few years back in Dublin (irvines maybe).

I got a spin in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang up and down the duel carriageway out of Cork about 12 or 15 years ago, I'd say thats as rare as it gets. Even though there were 4 or 5 cars built for the film there's only one on the road.
It was brilliant the man who owns/drives it was cursing the roads back then too.:D

A DeLorean used to be parked daily in the Dublin fruit market early in the morning usually in Little Britain street. I don't know if it's still there as i don't be in regularly now.

Saw a blue italian registered Ferrari F430 in Donnybrook earlier this year and a black 04 D Gallardo on the Grange Road in Rathfarnham but the rarest i've seen on the road is the Carrera GT that Des Cullen had for sale last year.

I didn't think roads would be a problem for a car that can fly:D

Here's pics of the blue F430 I saw. I didn't take these. Des Cullen had it for sale earlier this year. Someone from Liverpool FC was supposed to be buying it but that never happened. The 'Revo 250' supercar club have it now. Its on the cover of this months 'Evo' magazine.

Does anyone know if the Vehicle Registration Office releases statistics of vehicles registered? Can one find out how many of a particular model are registered? I'd love to know how many Bentley Continentals there are as they seem to be everywhere.

360s, gallardos arent all that rare, a murcielago is though... or an f anything. Must say that vantage looks savage.

Are we talking about rare _new_ cars?

If so, I'd imagine the silver '04 Maserati Quattroporte that's around Galway now and then is reasonably rare (because most people who can afford a Maserati will buy a Ferrari or something else instead :) )

If we're talking rare cars, well, there's a 70-ish reg Opel GT (white with black "racing stripes") nipping through Galway relatively regularly, which I'd say is pretty rare at this stage?

Other than that, don't know, offhand (though got some pretty unexpected results when I googled the Porsche 356 just now out of idle curiosity - children, avert your eyes  ) ... ehm, would the black BMW 850 CSi I see from time to time around town count?

I think Kersh means either new or old. A lot of people seem to be picking
just the most expensive cars they have seen. For example, as apparently there are 5 or 6 Maybachs in Ireland already, can it truly be considered that rare?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,892 ✭✭✭Kersh

Heres an EB 110 for those who havent seen one

    BugattiEB110.jpg

Well obviously a model T would be rare, or a Renault 16.. :D But millions were made.
Say, unusual rare cars, like has anyone seen a Porsche GT1 - I have, or a Pantera, what i mean is, cars that werent too plentiful, - enzos, A gullwing merc.... yis get the gist.

A neighbor of mine has a 1971 De Tomaso Pantera sitting in his garage for the last 20 years, he got it for his 21st birthday but won't sell it. When he starts it up the windows of our house vibrate, its like thunder.:D

It never seems to run right, its either missing or it runs out of fuel, we've spent many a Saturday playing around with it and it always wins in the end. I'd say it needs a major tune-up all we ever done is clean the plugs and heat them up and it always starts but never has enough power to move on its own. Its got a Ford 6.9 or 7.2 V8 engine its been a while since we've been messing with it. Good fun though.:)

Saw a Dodge Viper pickup (8 litre V10) and a Rolls Royce Phantom tonight in short term car park in Dublin Airport.

The rarest car I have seen in Ireland was a Tatra T613.

I regularly see 2 different Maybachs, I've seen 2 Ferrari 430s in the last month. Bentley Continental GTs seem to be as common as Mercedes SLs.

rarest car i have seen was triumph tr7...... in my garage lol.
    Hillman Avenger in a ditch.
Triumph sprint in a driveway in Dublin.
Rusting triumph 2000 in a driveway.
    Merc sl280 under a tarpaulin.

DS20, I reckon someone has to have one, somewhere, what with all the money flying around, and the exotic car population growing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭Squirrel

I used to see a Maserati Ghibli quite regularly in a garage in my Granny's back garden, she used to rent it out to a guy who had a good few classics, here's some of 'em

The Ghibli wasn't there the day I had the camera

I saw a Glanza today that didn'y have "for sale" in vinyl letters in the back window, you don't see them very often :D

My granny used to have a large shed/garage in her back garden, and the guy who owned these cars rented it out. He used to race a Navy Ghibli. Since her house has been done up the cras are gone unfortunately. I used to go out and look at them every time I was visiting her, and even got a ride through her back garden in the passenger seat of the Ghibli
