Are Muse the best band in the world? They are in my humble opinion. Matt Bellamy is todays top musician/vocalist/songwriter.

    :D lol

I quite like Muse, but best band in the world, God, et cetera might be a step too far.

Muse are good, Bellamy is talented but he's far from a god.

matt bellamy is a musical genious and i love muse but he aint no lemmy.:D

    Re:Lemmy and my footwear!!!
Lemmy licked my boot.....really...when he was in Dublin with Hawkwind years ago. We were all at a party and he was so out of it he could'nt stand, crawled over to me, tried to chat me up and when i ignored him, he kept licking my (very foxy)boots. Its true. But I still believe Matt Bellamy's a GENIUS!!!!!!!

Thread of the day, fair play. Anything promoting the genius and showboating of Matt Bellamy deserves to be heard!

Hi Mr. Soap (may I call you Joe?)Glad to find someone else has noticed Matt's talent & Muse's incredible music. For the past few years I've seen them receive a few nominations and get the odd award, but when they're on stage the blow the f*** out of all the top bands and acts who win all the big awards. And their music is beautifully constructed, technical brilliance. Probably a little too ahead of their time, but I reckon they'll last for years. Merry Yuletide!

Sorry Giblet thought it was a form of hormonal overload asthma produced by the mention of "He who walks on water". Do I get "Absolution"?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,665 ✭✭✭gary the great

I think they are in the top 3 bands anyway, unbelivably great. Even there b-sides are quality.
Anyone get the DVD (headlining Glastonbury), its pure brillaince!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 403 ✭✭mysteria

I'm hoping Santa will slip that Glastonbury dvd in my stocking, any idea where I can get it in the Dublin area oh "gary the great"?

Best band around at the moment. No question. Excellent debut album, solid if not spectacular second album and a thoroughly exhillerating third album. As has already been stated they are a truly wonderful live band.
Really looking forward to the next album. Its already Pigheads album of 2006.

Matt Bellamy could come pretty close to a God.He's amazing..if I was to list the many splendid things I think he's accomplished we'd be here all day so i won't, but yeah, wow. Amazing alright. I agree with Pighead.Album of 2006..that and Placebos one anyway

They're not a bad band by any stretch of the imagination, but best? And Matt Bellamy a God? Sorry, but we're not talking about Marty Friedman here.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 806 ✭✭✭Atrocity

They aren't the best, but they're fu**ing close

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,338 ✭✭✭aphex™

Well according to this poll (when i checked earlier) the best band of the world would be made up of:

    Matt Bellamy on vocals
    Matt Bellamy on guitar
    Chris Wolstenholme (muse) on bass
    Dominic Howard (muse) on drums

    :v:

EDIT: Why have they always got bad reviews in Ireland? Look at this piece of crap. The guy must have had a really bad day. They didn't even bother reviewing Absolution.

Muse are pretty damn good, but maybe the best band ever is a bit of an overstatement...then again, they seem to be the most agreed upon?

Matt Bellamy is a bit of a god though. Demigod?

I just got the dvd in Virgin out in town, its in every HMV and Virgin unless its sold out.

Yep i just know the next album is going to be amazing, although not as good as Placebos new album, which will be quality. And there both realesed around the same time! Cant wait!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 403 ✭✭mysteria

Thanks you've made my Yule, gotta send the elves to get it from me. Great to see there are some people here with great taste and the vision to spot real Genius (and yeah, a Demi-god will do, he's a bit vertically ahem...challenged)

To be honest there wouldn't be much i'd change in that xfm poll. I might put the guy from bloc party as the drummer though, he's fantastic.

    Whats your theory behind this?

Any man that can write guitar riffs like plug in baby, citzen erased and stockholm syndrome is a great guitarist whether you like it or not.

That depends on your definition of a great guitarist. He wouldn't even fall into my top 1,000 in terms of skill. If you like Muse then you like them for the catchy riffs, and possibly the songs, not Bellamy's board-shredding.

    P.S. I like Muse

Steven, just wondering who you would rate as your top 10 guitarists?any other takers?

Yeah he's fantabulous..one of the best new drummers around alright!!

Fair enough if thats what you think. But come on, he's not only brilliant (in my opinion) on gutair...but the way he plays piano is just mind blowing!! He's an amazing musician

Chris Wolstenholme is a kickin bass player

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 806 ✭✭✭Atrocity

He's a good guitar player alright, but that doesn't necessarily make Muse the best band around. Having said that, they are ONE of the best and an amazing live band. Also, he hates Kelly Jones from Stereophonics which makes him a legend straight away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

    God? He's not even good.

Hmmm, get yourself listening to "Piano Thing", a b-side from a while back.

if they replaced dom with te fella from bloc party they may well become the best band ever. chris is simply fantastic though......he's no nicky wire who i am currently listening to everyone go download his solo track!its mad.
piano thing was cool,he normally puts it or something similar into the live gigs.

I always thought of them as a poor mans Radiohead.

Now that's just silly...Radionhead cannot be compared to any band. They're in a league all of their own. Anyway you don't have to be rich to liisten to them!!

ONE of the best I'll agree with that alright.

Chris is the best bassist around at the mo. He has unbelievable rhythm and I don't know how he keeps the speed up throughout an entire gig. Matthew Bellamy is a songwriting machine, excellent lyricist and superb guitarist/pianist.
Also after Absolution Dom's gone way up in my estimations.

Muse are timeless - they compose classical music on futuristic instruments/effects. I'm going on and on .....
I could go on all day. I Love Muse.

Well actually Waltons (member of boards and drummer of a band I'm in) informed me that the drummer recorded a rather complicated drum beat for the track "Banquet" for the album. Waltons saw a live version where the guy was looking like he thought he was the **** and was playing some over-simplified version of the studio edition of the song. Not the mark of a great drummer to me, live is what counts.

I like the chorus drumming that the guy did for Banquet. It's not necessarily complicated, but it's a hell of a lot better than what he was doing live. It just casts doubt over what he's at and how many takes it took in the studio to get that part down if he doesn't have the nerve to do it live.
    I prefer Muse's drummer anyway :v:

Edit: Forgot to actually say something about Muse ¬_¬. Good, not God

I used to like Muse but their angsty songs about the apocalypse have since become irritating.
