    ...of all time? Cheers.

Of the current batch? Head to Toe. That's a pretty nifty dance number. Or CSI Miami, with the Who's Won't Get Fooled Again...

Old 'Dr Who' tune is pretty good.

But 'Star Trek: TNG' wins hands down :)

And out of the new shows, Prison Break's theme is a pretty catchy number.

    ROFL! :D

Yes, as somebody mentioned Dr Who (original) had a good theme tune.

And old classics like The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Ulysses 31, Great American Hero (I think that's what it was called) and of course, The Littlest Hobo! :)

"Some people stand in the darkness
Afraid to step into the light".... <3

Followed closely by A-Team, Nightrider, Superman (movie & TV show starring Dean Cain :p ), Stargate SG-1 most of the Star Treks, etc.

Jaysus, nearly forgot Duck Tales, Celebrity Deathmatch, Sanford And Son, Secret Agent Man (whatever that show was, Spy something...)

Teh 80 were the best for theme tunes by far

    The A team

for Cartoons M.A.S.K or Jayce and the wheeled warriors with lyrics and music so cheesy it makes you wanna pretend your either matt tracker or Jayce and save the world or universe

By the way i was in a night club once, and the last song they played was the A team song. the dance floor emptied but Me and my mate stayed there and took it all in, it was Cool.

    Nightrider

    Malcolm in the middle.

    The Mary Whitehouse Experience.

Or CSI Miami, with the Who's Won't Get Fooled Again...

Without wishing to be pedantic, I think its a cover of the Who classic, great song nonetheless.

Baywatch, Quantam Leap, incredible hulk, Batman, The music CSI had in the first series, not a fan of the who cover

Local deejay here usually ends with that 'believe it or not I'm walking on air' from the Greatest American Hero. Or the Cheers one...

I quite like the theme tune to Law and Order but that's probably just because I like the show so much.

The original spiderman cartoon had a good theme tune-reall catchy.

    Also the batman cartoon.

The twilight zone but thats an obvious one.

    Thunder Thunder Thunder Thundercats!

And basically any theme tune from the 1980s.. what was it about that decade and theme tunes?

To name but a few of the best:

    The A-Team
    Duck Tales
    Magnum
    Cagney & Lacey
    Dallas
    Falcon Crest
    Dynasty
    Murder, She Wrote
    Inspector Gadget
    McGyver
    North and South
Even Glenroe's original tune was amazing..
    the list goes on...

Of today's crop, I'd say The OC has to win.. One Tree Hill's is ok too, although I don't actually watch the show.

I just thought of another theme tune that really drew me into the program. Funny because it's some ad for Janurary sales that has reminded me. Earth Final Conflict. The instrument seemed to merge into a voice and back again. I always enjoyed listening to that.

I left out Baywatch and Diagnosis Murder

Top theme songs... that haven't necessarily been listed already...

"The Equaliser", auld Ed Woodward as the vigil-ante in the 'Jag
( I even sought out that theme song as an mp3 once... found it too )

    Airwolf
    Ski-Sunday
    BBC Snooker
    The Angelus

My favourites would have to be the Red Dwarf end theme (as well as the opening theme from the first two series), The Office, The Original Doctor Who theme, South Park (especially the Fourth Grade one :-p), Batman - The Animated Series, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Happy Days, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Wonder Years and the ones listed above, of course.

Damn straight! Say what you like about the BBC, love it or hate it, but when it comes to theme tunes for their sports programmes they get it right nearly every time.

Apart from the 'Ski Sunday' and 'Cricket' tunes, there's also good old 'Match Of The Day', that cool guitary tune they use for the snooker (prefer the older version from about 10 or 12 years ago to the updated version they started using a few years back, but it's still good), the old 'Grandstand' theme tune...... God, I could go on and on. Classics, each and every one of them, and used to such good effect by the Beeb that each tune becomes completely synonimous with their particular sports. As soon as you hear the first few bars of one of those tunes, you instantly think of that sport.

But, for me, the all-time classic has got to be the old BBC 'Grand Prix' theme tune. That deep, bass guitar bit leading into the drums and electric guitar segment taken from 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac. I was watching some old Grand Prix races there recently and hearing that music playing over the opening titles still sends a shiver down my spine. Never was a tune so perfectly matched with a particular sport than that one, in my opinion. If you ever listen to it, you'll see (hear? ) what I mean. It's like a musical representation of the beginning of a Grand Prix.

Just try this: close your eyes and picture this in your mind in time with the music.

It starts out quiet, just the rumbling bass guitar playing those famous notes (chords? Sorry, I don't know much about music! :D ) the first time around - the drivers strapped into their cars, ready for the off.

The bass guitar comes in again, playing the same notes again - engines started, the grid is cleared, the tension begins to rise.

Then, for a third time, the bass guitar comes in, but in the background the drum beats are rising, getting louder and louder - the engines are revving hard, the lights come on........

Then the music rises to a crescendo, in comes the electric guitars and all hell breaks loose - lights out, engines screaming, tyre smoke everywhere and the race is on!

Try it for yourself. I'm telling you, no tune was ever more perfectly matched to a sport than that one! ;):D

Oh, by the way, if you want to check out for yourself what I'm talking about, this link here http://www.f1archives.com/intro.htm has downloadable video clips of some of the old BBC 'Grand Prix' opening title sequences. Think one of my favourites would be the 1994/1995 one where the black-and-white car gets "painted" in colour as the camera pans across it, all the while showing various shots from races past on the bodywork. Great title sequence, in my opinion! :D
