It's gotta be anto and the johnsons if you consider arcade fire was really 2004. Any thoughts?

I think Anto is a terrible bastardization of the name Anthony. If that was my name, I'd probably glass someone who called me Anto.

How about if they called you "Ant"?

That would bring unwanted comparison to Ant & Dec... Overall Anthony would be a pretty god-awful name to have, so I'm glad I've such a classy name.

Tony doesn't do anything for you?

No, he's not up for that kind of thing.

Fine, best album of 2005. Opeth - Ghost Reveries.

I think we should have a "Best Best album of 2005" thread :v:

I think any "Best" thread is inherently spammy.

But 2005 has been a good year for albums. The new Nevermore, Atheist re-issues, and so forth.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

The Athiest re-issue hardly count as new :v:

There were a few nuggets but on a wider scale it was fairly poor, I felt.

Yeah, they count, they were released this year. I suppose I had a good year for albums so I'm fairly happy, a lot of it was older stuff though.

    I have no brother!!!!

I didn't really 'love' any albums this year. Just got hhypnotize there a day or two ago and that is pleasant I guess.

They were released years ago, they were just repackaged this year. They don't reflect the standard of new music introduced this year. In fact, the amount of re-releases might show poorly upon the standard of new releases.

I think it's terrible that you call him Anthony when it's actually Antony and the Johnsons:p

I haven't heard enough of this years albums but I must say I'm very impressed with Antony and the Johnsons release this year. Enya's new album is quite impressive too and of course Ryan Adams and the Cardinals have released two impressive albums. Devils and Dust by Springsteen, Stand Up by Dave Matthews Band. Can't choose one though:o

Eels is definetly the best album of the year. E should get the nobel prize for contributions to uplifting the depressed. God bless em.

    Decemberists - 'Picaresque'

Sure it got overplayed (can barely stand listening to it now), but I haven't heard many albums ever that held my attention for 3 straight months of listening. And while there's been other albums I loved over the year and right now, I'd still have to put Picaresque as the #1 for that reason.

65daysofstatic's 'One Time For All Time' is a close second though.

The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth.

    Just brilliant.

Fraid I'm not really feeling the new Strokes all that much. First 5 songs are great, but it all kinda goes downhill from there. And it's sooo long. Not bad though, I suppose, just kind of a let down compared to the other two.

Hmm I love it so much I forgot the title! Should have said Language, Sex, Violence, Other...:D

Also really liked Coldplay's X&Y, I am a Bird Now - Antony and the Johnsons (despite telling myself I'd never like them after Ray D'Arcy playing them to death!), A Certain Trigger - Maximo Park.....mainly bought Dance albums last year though.
