Aldi one looks better.....4X40Watts as opposed to Lidls 4X20W....
    RCA and ISO connector
So yeh you can connect your iPod without one of those crappy FM transmitters.....jeez....considering that radio meself now!
    Oh and
USB socket with 50cm cable to connect MP3 players, etc
So you can connect your Pen drives too!

its very hard to get a 20GB player to actually play on one of these radios. have to have under a certain amount of songs on the player and have the folders correctly arranged. they're really for use with usb pens

    Lidl's is 4x45W.

Bought one today, they're €80 instead of €100. The manual says you can connect an "MP3 Player" or memory stick, though I've yet to test it (have to go and buy some coax bits to hook up the aerial).

Just popped out and bought the Lidl one. The leaflet in the shop prices them at 99.99 but they are marked down at the stand.
That was the easy bit....now setting it up!!

You can actually record your radio programmes to the USB/MMC card!!

    tevion or silvercrest?

    anyone try or have one?

    thx

I got Aldi's previous version and am very happy with it. It's really well featured with plenty of power and at the price I've no worries about it getting nicked nor did I mind having to really force it into the slot at installation! The only downsides are the lurid colour display but YMMV and the FM autotuning is not great where stations are cloe together.

Overall outstanding value and IMHO with the new connectivity features a steal.

How easy is it to install one of these??

They look great but don't want to have to fork out to get a garage to install it if I do get one!!

To anyone with the manual - does it do LongWave or Medium Wave - or are there 3 AM bands ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭JackieChan

    Capt,
The Lidl one has 3 x FM bands, 2 x MW bands and one LW band

Simple enough. The toughest part was getting my previous CD player out. My radio isn't working correctly, because the connector on this radio is a socket, wheres on my old one twas a plug. I've managed to McGuyver an aerial out of coax cable, but I'll need to find a proper connector as the quality isn't great.

Seamus, have you tried connecting your MP3 player up to it (if you have one!)? can you select what to play through the MP3 player or do you have to do it on the stereo and scroll through 7000 songs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

I connected it up, then it promptly told me that it had no power and died :D

I'll try it again later after charging. It's a Muvo^2, HDD-based, so if it works I guess most players will.

I got one this morning and just (sort of) fitted it. Couple of snags...

    1. There were three blocks of ISO connectors in the old radio compared with two in the Silvercrest. I cut off the third block and slotted in the other two into the Silvercrest and it seems to be working perfectly.

    2. The Aerial connector is different than the blaupunkt that came out. In the Silvercrest, its deeply inset whereas with the blaupunkt, it fitted snugly and was not inset. The car is an Opel Astra.

I havnt done anything with it until I see how the rest of you get on - perhaps theres an adaptor that can be got to sort this?

Must be said, cant go wrong for 80 notes though.

Anyone with fitting issues similar to mine described above will find the following very useful:

    fitment guide

I crunched in the car make & model and its told me what bits I need. :)

Aye, same here. There are three blocks, but only two were hooked into the old radio, so I hooked them in, no problems.

This is the same issue as I had. A quick browse on halfords.co.uk and there seems to be adapters available for this. I'm going to pop over there and take a look.

I briefly plugged in my Mp3 player and it pcked up all the tracks, and played without issue. Mine are all arranged into folders, and it had no problem with this. You can select folders, but I'll just stick it on random play and be happy with that :)

The fitment guide in the above link will give you the actual part no. of the bits and bobs (manufactured by Autoleads) required.

Sounds good, thanks Seamus i cant see any reason why this wouldnt be worth €80.

i have installed mine no problems at all went straight in and boy am i happy with it pure class a real bargin. Sound is great from radio and CD but the MP3 playback is the real winner amazing

Cheers for the link. Didn't have what I needed though :(
It shouldn't be too hard to source an aerial jack.

Quality is fantastic, I've been driving around for a bit tonight. Best €80 I've spent in recent times, well chuffed.

I'm still curious as to why in God's name you would *ever* want a remote for a car stereo, unless you're driving a stretch limo. :D

So I'm not the only one that thought this then! I tried to think of the slightest of possibilities of how it could prove useful. Only thing I could think of was maybe fixing it to the steering wheel - but even that wouldnt be practical as it has to be pointing right at it!

I'd imagine 99% of these remotes are going to find their way into either (a). some drawer where similarly useful items are stashed away or (b). the local landfill, within a couple of weeks.

So they are both €80? Without having to read the whole thread, could somebody tell me which one is the better one? Is there an AUX in connection to hook up an mp3 player to? I don't want to do it through USB as I'd prefer to just control it from my mp3 player, I'd just like a nice AUX in connection to hook it into:)

Academic unless someone knows of a Lidl with some still in stock :(

Go to halfords in Liffey Valley they have the aerial adapter.
Also VW/Seat/Audi/Skoda drivers you made need a harness adapter the code is PC2-69-4 I hope halfords has this also because the radio keeps losing its settings otherwise. But a great little system shame the did'nt include the aerial adapter like the others do.

get an aiwa radio off ebay. they all have front aux input

    Couple of points
[I am biased as I did pick up the Lidl mp3 player yesterday]:)

To load a cd on the aldi one you have to drop down the front panel. On the Lidl one you just insert the cd!

The only use I could see for the remote would be if the kids in the back wanted to choose the songs that they wanted to hear.

I placed a mixture of over 100 mp3 and wma files on a cd last night and the player had no problem with it.Can the Aldi one play wma file?

No problem installing on a 98 punto. As somebody said earlier the hardest part is getting the old radio out!

got mine in lidl last evening and for €80 it is the bargain of the year.installed it in 20 minutes and the usb stick feature is class.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

So would these work in a 91 Ford Fiesta does anyone know? :)

Probably actually be just as well, and much safer, to get the Lidl one, them ebay ones will cost about $60-70 inc shipping for a second hand model, which is about €48-55, an extra €30 will get me the Lidle one really.

Does the LIDL one have AUX input can someone tell me? :)

Is the Lidl one definitely the best between the Lidl and Aldi one? Not too sure going by specs of each!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭JackieChan

Cormie, Check the link given in post 21. That will tell you what kind of adaptor you will need.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

    Fascia Adaptor (image)

Many cars need a fascia adaptor to convert from a manufacturer specific fitment to a standard DIN mounting.

A fascia adaptor is not required for this vehicle.

    Harness Adaptor (image)

A harness adaptor converts from a manufacturer specific wiring harness termination to a standard ISO wiring connector, allowing most aftermarket units to be simply plugged in.

Wiring harness adaptor part number PC2084 is required to connect a standard ISO unit in this vehicle

    Auxiliary Input Adaptor (image)

An auxiliary input adaptor allows connection of an additional audio source (ie. portable MP3, DVD, etc) into the original factory fitted system.
No fitment information or no interface available for this vehicle.

Where no interface is available, an FM modulator can be used instead.

Thanks for that... so is that telling me I have no aix input adaptor or that I need one or is it just telling me I need this to be able to fit the Lidl/Aiwa/Any other radio:confused:

These must have been very popular. Went down to Lidl on Thomas Street and they were sold out. They had about 20 of them left at lunch time yesterday

    Cormie,
That link is showing what you need to buy to convert your current cabling to a standard ISO block.

    Cormie,
I wouldn't be an expert , but if you can take out your current car stereo and see if the connections match up with this I'd say your ok.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭junglecliff

tested both and the lidl one was best by a long shot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭JackieChan

The only negative about the Lidl player is that it can take it 15-20 seconds to get a TOC before it will play a song....although considering I've got 110 songs on one cd,that may explain that!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

why is the aldi one worse? any of either still available anywhere?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 724 ✭✭✭ubu

The Aldi one is a bit alkward, the usb connection is a bit dodgy its loose all the time, also the max number of songs it will recognise is 2000 tracks so if you have a 60gb mp3 player like me its a bit shít to say the least.
