Forbidden Planet is showing at the IFI this weekend.

It's quite possibly my favourite science fiction film of all time. Anyone who hasn't seen it should definitely try and get along.

It's sort of a retelling of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'.

A space ship is sent out from Earth to find out what happened to a colony that settled on a planet in the Altair system. The planet is host to the remains of a long dead ancient and highly advanced alien civilisation. The film really some amazing special effects that amazingly have stood the test of time, this film was made in the 1950's. And lets not forget the fact that it stars a pretty damn famous robot.

You can also see that this film heavily influnced the original Star Trek series.
