Are you getting a Christmas/Holiday bonus from your employer?

Do you think this is a fair game?

How is it done at your place of work? Length of service/rank/flat rate etc...

Feedback will be interesting if it catches on.

I used to get a bonus in my last job. But not in my current job... they used to take the senior staff out for a meal one evening, but they stopped doing that last year.

No bonus here. Get taken out for the night for a meal then a free bar, which is great at the time but would prefer the bonus tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 632 ✭✭✭ButtermilkJack

Profit-share bonus. Percentage of profits shared equally among all staff (those employed at least 9 out of 12 months of that year).

    Fair game.

I got a bonus, I get my normal wages plus 1 and a half weeks wages. and we had a night out with 5 course meal and free drinks. so i'm pretty happy,

    A few gift vouchers

Bonuses aren't really done in Ireland.

Just about everyone gets one in the UK, certainly when I was working in London, people would get pissed off if they didn't get at least an extra two weeks wages at Xmas.

Got €100 last year having been in the job 4 months and taken out to dinner. Be interesting to see what I get this year. Dinner is booked. I reckon I'll get another €100. Better than nothing I suppose. Record year for business though. I'd just love a weeks wage bonus :D

No bonus, juct Chrimbo party with free dinner and booze. Would definitely prefer the bonus and a non-free party.

I wonder how many declare their vouchers? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

We get a massive crimbo party with lovely grub, and entertainment (not bog standard stuff at all).We also get two nice bottles of wine to slug on over the festive season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,984 ✭✭✭✭Lump

We get a party in a TV studio, free booze, food and then we get a £1000 bonus in March (End of the Financial year) so that's not really a christmas bomus. Then in April, we get our 3.7% pay rise... well that's what ti was last year.

    Roll on Christmas.

what do the company do though?
Vouchers is a good idea for tax reasons, and if it is for the same company they can afford to give you more since they will take back the profits. So you may get 500 in vouchers whereas if the company was out of pocket the exact same amount you may only end up with say 250 after tax if it went in your wages.

We get an extra week's wages. we were brought out for dinner aswell...not too bad I suppose considering some of these posts!!
    My b/f got nearly €800 last year...I really need a career change..lol :p

Get my average comission per week multiplied by 4, so came out with about €460 for a bonus. Not bad really as I don't do too much selling anyway.

    from campus.ie
There's a paragraph in there about Christmas Bonuses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 752 ✭✭✭Spicy Lauren

Last year we got €250 voucher, a Christmas party with free bar, and the choice between either a big turkey, a big ham or a bottle of spirit/wine to bring home.

This year business is not doing so well, so they're bringing us for lunch in the local restaurant and we get the usual turkey or ham or bottle of booze.

What industries do you all work in? The bonuses mentioned seem to be very little.

It's a bit like that in Holland too. Your annual salary is effectively paid out in 14 chunks, with a whole 13th "month" being paid out in addition to your normal salary at the end of the year, and a (minimum of) 8% extra in May also as a "holiday supplement". It's not really a bonus though, as everybody gets it, just a way of paying out the total salary in such as a way as to give you more available cash when you most need it.

    Sweet F.A.

We got a Christmas Party which was a free bar and finger food but it does seem like bad form when I used to get a few hundred in vouchers at Christmas when I was stacking shelves in Dunnes part-time during college.

That said, a 3.7% pay raise would be considered an insult here, I've yet to get less than 14% (though I didn't exactly start on great money when I came fresh from college).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 538 ✭✭✭~Leanne~

I remember when i worked in Dunnes a few years ago we could choose between vouchers or money. The vouchers we didnt get taxed on. I used to just try and sell them to people! :P

€450 bonus for working 40 hours overtime in the 2 months before christmas, €300 bonus for achieving service targets and €200 in gift vouchers for exceeding sales target. Nothing unconditional but a pretty nice reward for doing that bit extra

We get nothing, unless you count 4 free drinks at the company Xmas party.

Other departments get bonuses if we achieve our targets for the year, fab, eh?

I got a supposed bonus of 400 bucks, for 3 months in the job, im here since june.
I found out that the bonus is not what it seems, they pay us 12 months wages over 13 months, they garnish our monthly for 12 months and then give it in december. so it looks like we getting a bonus but in fact we are just getting the garnished money. Its good in a way that its like saving for christmas but its not a bonus!!!!!
I only got 3 months bonus becasue i was contract until sept so the didnt garnish the wage until i was made permanent.
So did i get a bonus.............no!!! i good my entitled yearly wage!!!!

While cleaning my desk this morning I found a couple of old pay cheques that I'd never lodged.

So I've just lodged over €2500 and that will be my pretend christmas bonus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

If you can afford to not lodge pay cheques and just forget about them, you're getting paid too much. :)

    Donate half to charity.

Actually I've been living off my credit card far too much instead.

MBNA will be the charity I'll be giving it all to.

We are getting no bonus, no christmas dinner, not even holidays. We have to take annual leave next week for the three days.

Anyways I'm on the look out or a new job!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,210 ✭✭✭Tazz T

We've to take 4 days off our annual leave.

That's a bonus. Last year it was five.

The amount of unpaid overtime I did this year too. Time to start working to rule.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Thanks to the entire company's hard work all year and our good performance, we have the "option" (on consultation with our bosses) of leaving at 3pm tomorrow. How generous is that?

Of course, I'm IT. Since some people won't leave at three tomorrow, then I can't either
