I'm now appear to have 2MB download and 256K upload speeds. Surfing the web already feels a lot faster! :D

Anyone else experience this yet. I'm in the Malahide exchange.

I'm on the same speed (Ternure exchange)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Nothing here in finglas... 2048/128 (kbps)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,042 ✭✭✭kaizersoze

    Nothing here either.
Malahide is one of the 4 test exchanges for the forthcomming speed increases but Terenure isn't. Strange

The tests were done a week or two ago.

    ...

    Are you both ex-1024/128 customers?

2048/128 on IOLBB still. It'd be nice to see the upgrade this side of Christmas alright.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 2,094 ✭✭✭halenger

Is this just testing again or are they going to roll out this upgrade on a slower basis?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,334 ✭✭✭OfflerCrocGod

Blanch with EsatBT 2/128 still :( I'd love it if €ircon went ahead with the upgrades as soon as possible but so far no show.

Was on a customer's site yesterday in Ballymount Ind Estate, they are now on 5Mb/512k with Eircom. Wonder when I'll be upgraded...

Yes, I'm an ex-1024/128 and the new speed is quite noticeable! One great way of checking is viewing movie trailers from the Apple site - you can open a large or high defn. trailer and it's almost immediately viewable.

It looks like this is the way they're going to roll it out. It's a shame it's not alphabetical ;)

    Damn tight!!!

I liked it when it was done on a Saturday night 8 or so months ago.
Just shows that eircom were putting a false sealing on their speeds and could have increased out speeds from 512->2M anytime they wanted....monopolistic bsatards!!!

That URL doesn't work (damned session-id's!!). Have trawled through the eircom.ie website but can't find a link to the News section. Any clues?

To go Eircon.ie and it is bottom right hand side. Two news stories. Doesn't say the speeds were upgraded, it just says and upgrade in the exchanges, that could be new cabling or anything.

I'm not sure how much this should be given attention...

    Reasoning...

    http://broadbandsupport.eircom.net/bbkblink.asp?case=8721

I'm on the Belcamp exchange and we haven't been upgraded since Tuesday. I'd guess those announcements were more likely something equipment related or when they were letting Smart/similar poke their heads around the exchange. :p

Those service announcements are probably just as you say or work on the equipment in preparation.
The last speed increase was listed in their service section as a "broadband enhancement" rather than an upgrade

It's pretty slow alright. At that rate surely it would take them until March or something to get them all done?

I'm on Rochestown, but I'm still getting the same 2Mb.

    Probably, probably not.
When i was a 512k customer, they seemed to upgrade me fairly fast. 1 meg to 2 meg within a few months. And i got word here about the estimated dates at the time. This is all just testing. They'll roll it out quick come the new year. Wonder what the cap will be.

BTW, im purely anti eircom, but the service here (Offaly) seems to be up to standard.

All you dubs are lucky. Errorcon probably wont be touching the exchanges in Waterford until sometime next century, if I am lucky. I am currently on BTs 1024/128 service and I am itching to get upgraded to 2048/256. I just wont pay more then 30/month for broadband and am still sore from the knowledge that Sweden will be getting 100Meg broadband for the equivilent of 50Eur/month.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,858 ✭✭✭paulm17781

Can you get NTL in waterford? If so you are luckier than the eircon Dubs

Sorry to say that it's closer to 35 a month for it.
And i have friends who complain about their 10mb connections :(

Well 10Mb is not really that much when your neighbor has 100Mb - must keep up with the Joneses!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,791 ✭✭✭Linoge

Well, maybe Sweden want to keep up with the Jones' in Hong Kong with a 1 gig line... http://www.convergedigest.com/Bandwidth/newnetworksarticle.asp?ID=14545

God, to think that we're creaming ourselves just thinking about a 10 meg connection!

What would you do with 1 gig symetric? You would have to be using VOIP and IP tv to come close to needing a connection like that. Would still be nice though......

    Of course it's nationwide; it's €ircon.

    Hey,
Is there any way of finding out which exchange I'm on - I'm in Ballsbridge and still seem to be on 1mb/128k. Shouldn't this be 2mb/256k now, or am I just being greedy?

To find your exchange go to www.smarttelecom.ie and click on smart broadband (the one for €35 a month) and enter your number and it tells you which exchange you're on. Don't sign up for the service obviously though. Checking if its available in your area gives you your exchange.

I didn't see ballsbridge listed on those eircom pages mentioned earlier so you'll probably have to wait a while like the rest of us.

    2/128 -> 3/384

    ...

Has anyone actually had a 2MB line upgraded yet? I remember seeing people mention getting 2/256 from the 1MB line alright.

What about other companies? (I'm sure BT/Netsource/etc can allow/disallow upgrades on their customers) So has anyone from BT/other non Eircom company gotten their line upgraded?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 372 ✭✭cerbeus

I'm with BT in Drogheda on a 1MB connection which is due for upgrade according to my earlier post this evening so I should know tomorrow.

Anyone else on DOLPHINS BARN??? I just vnc'ed home and checked on a dsl speed test and it seems to be still 2mb/128k.

Bfoire you all start flaming me i did quit vnc while the test was running.

I have 2/128 on the Drogheda exchange so let you know the good news in the morning hopefully.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,858 ✭✭✭paulm17781

I'm not 100% but I doubt the work in exchanges has anything to do with the speed upgrades. At 4 exchanges per week it would take them nearly 4 years to upgrade everyones speed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 372 ✭✭cerbeus

It might be prep work for the upgrades due after Christmas.
