    I do actually.

I've been off college since last Friday, not back untill Feburary. Time to get a job me thinks.

It really is only a term that is used in Commonwealth countries though. Most European countries would refer to it as St. Stephens day.

Personally I find the term 'Boxing day' carries a lot of classist bagage so I'd tend to avoid it.

again, the 2 mean the same to me so im not bothered which someone uses. why do people disagreements over something so silly

Boxing Day? where are you from? we celebrate St Stephens day in the republic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,426 ✭✭✭Roar

after 6pm this evening i'm off for 6 days, then have to work 5 days up to xmas eve, off xmas day, back stevens day, then i've 6 days off for the new year, so its not too bad..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

I finish Friday 23rd and I am back to work Tuesday 3rd Jan.
Thats one of the great things about finishing college, you actually get holidays!
When your in college, your generally working part time, which means working all over xmas and new years.
I worked in a cinema which opened on new years day! Can you imagine the state of the staff??

I celebrate March 17th nearly every year.. and all the Irish people keep refering to it as St Patricks Day.. I don't know why they keep getting worked up about it when I simply refer to it as March 17th Day..

*please note the severe undertone of sarcasm with this reply, it is St. Stephen's day in fairness!

Well judging by the amount of replys highlighting your error, I would have to say its quite obvious that a lot of people care what ya call it.

Sorry, I don't mean to nit pick, it is the holiday season after all, but for some people, it genuinely is a big deal.
My nanny would have a stroke if she heard you calling it boxing day :D

Im off on the 23rd, then in on the 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th (nights) ... but I get new years off :).

typical. having a really crap week , reply to a post on boards and a load of ye start moaning about the fact that I called it boxing day instead of st stephens day good god must i proof read everything i type just to make sure it doesnt upset anyone. no theres so much political unrest in this country. I dont care what people call it or what religion they are or where they come from i take them as they are so its sad to see people take offense to something so little and turn it in to an arguement.

Thing is though, it's not an error. I call it boxing day because that's what I've always called it and become more determined to do so by bufoons insisting it MUST be called St. Stephen's day.

But surely that defeats the point! You can't be working AND have the time off!

    So you'll either have

    1) Loads free time, no money!
    2) A lowly paid job, much less free time!

Either way, I prefer my situation :v:

    December:
    12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th.

    January:
    1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th.

This is time off from what we primarily do. In that free time we can choose to do what ever we want (work, laze about allday etc.) It's in our free time so working counts as free time for us.

Its like saying "Oh yeah, two weeks off work, cant wait"*

*But I'm working those two weeks in another job

What do you do in college? are you fluent in french now?
How long do you have to study in france for?
What are you going to do when your all finished? Is this your final year?
Did you know anyone in France when you went over?
I am a big sissy, I don't think I could handle leaving in a strange country with stranger people.
