Anyone ever use a PC with this kind of spec? Decent enough for the basics?

    Might recommend to the parents.

They have an offer with a 15" flat panel Monitor for 429 Euro including printer, free delivery and 15 month Mcafee Sub but 40GB HD and 256 Ram and no Modem again.
How much is the monitor+printer worth or would Dell knock the price of these off that system?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

The printer is pretty worthless anyway, as it will cost you a fortune in consumabels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,225 ✭✭✭Scruff

thats pretty sweet for an entry level machine. what socket type is the cpu?
/edit no agp or pci slot though so not a lot of upgrading options there. still fine for bog standard web browsing\office type work.
do dell do any desk top as opposed to tower case pc's anymore?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Wonder would this one work well with my new Dell W2600 LCD/TFT 26" TV/Monitor in the sitting room ?.....:) It would stop me having to split up my computer set- up in my bedroom

    P.

Interesting - no point in doing a self build instead for friends/relations since this has a windows Xp home license included and they can call Dell instead of you having to provide technical support forever for free.

Not sure how long it will last but that code will give you a 17'' lcd with the machine for €460 a good €200 less than putting it in as an option in the previous one.

me wants one of these.seems like a good deal.
is the optical mouse better than the recommended one?
Does anybody know if I would be able to use an existing HP monitor I have from an older PC with this CPU?

    Thanks

Assuming the recommended one is a bog-standard mouse with a ball, then "yes", in most cases. Optical mice can be a bit funny on some mouse mats or some grained veneer desktops, although they're usually fine. The bonus is you don't have to clean them.

Yes you will, no problem. It mightn't be as good quality a picture (depending on what monitor it is, etc.), but it will work fine.

Knowing Dell, I'm sure there will be just as good an offer shortly.

This is a fantastic entry level pc/workstation. It's really quiet, and license for XP home alone is worth €91.50 http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?bn=10339 so 257 for the machine and OS is definitely worth it. Thanks 2003yaris!

Twas a great deal, my dad'll be chuffed... N i'll get my pc back n can start modding again!!! At least i can't mess with the dell, there's nowt to mess with. Would like to have gotten an LCD with it as he likes my 19" one. Hopefully i'll pick up a 17" one here...

I upgraded the extra 90euro and got 1024 ram. Could of done with a new monitor though.

Great offer thanks for bringing it to my attention!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭whiteshadow

    Would this system be upgradable.
eg adding new drives.. graphics card as time goes on etc.

What could be upgraded and more importantly what couldn't

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭CivilServant

There are no agp or pcie slots so you're stuck with intel EXTREME graphics! Which is fine for watching movies and surfing the net. The power supply is rated for 250w so maybe an extra one or two hard drives, but that's about it. The machine is a basic workstation so expansion is limited. 3 pci slots, onboard sound/lan/graphics. Basic but gets the job done. Did I mention it's extremely quiet? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

The more I read about this, the more I'm sorry I didn't get one. :(
If anybody who ordered doesn't want it, I'll take it.

I just ordered one in the (very) optimistic hope of it being delivered before the end of the week. Might have to buy a few pairs of socks so I have something to give to the old pair on christmas day...

Yep, hope you are right. I think this is an end of line, and they will probably want to get rid - of! for about €99.99c in New Year, as everyone now want's a built in DVD+/- RW included as bog standard ;) .

I seem to remember someone posting about a discount link for Dell, if you were a member of staff of a business buying from them (Extra 7% discount) ?..now I can not find that link :( .

Never mind, everything comes to he who waits :p Hopefully.

That would be the only black mark on the machine, they could of supplied cdrw that read dvds. So another €45 on a DVDRW. Still a top machine though.

I was just talking over this deal at todays price with a friend who has a degree in computers/computing. In his opinion I could not build it for the money.

So, as I want a CPU to connect to my new DELL W2600 LCD/Monitor TV, without disturbing my current computer set up. I decided to order it.

Got it for €318 delivered, from:- www.dell.ie/epp/

    Thats a relief ;) .
