Is the draw on tv ? What time ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,474 ✭✭✭YeatsCounty

The draw is on at 7:30 GMT.

What's the deal with Serbia & Montenegro getting placed into a "special pot"?

Its to ensure they don't get drawn in a group with another 2 euro teams.

Ah, that makes sense. Cheers for that. :)

It's on at 8.15pm according to BBC2 listings... draw to take place around 5mins into it.

Anyone think we'll have a few big fixtures?
I've mentioned already in other thread, but T&T with Brazil and England and Australia are near certain.
    Would be brilliant to happen.

Btw, was listening to programme about T&T last night... the whole country will be watching the draw tonight and are having another big celebration tonight :D

Italy are the 2nd best team in the tournament imo behind Brazil. England won't go far if Sven sticks with Lampard-Gerrard in midfield alone. What do England's wins against Poland, USA, Colombia and Argentina have in common? They are England's only wins against decent teams outside of England in a year or so and England played a holding midfielder in all 4 games (Carrick played in 2, King played in 2). If Sven hasn't copped on after the Argentina match he is not fit to coach San Marino.

I think Japan are the best of Pot 4 and will suprise a few people.

I won't be picking that ^^ anyway. I'll put my considerable reputation ( ;) ) on the line and claim right now that all 8 seeds won't take all 8 first places.

    GROUP C
    Argentina
    Ivory Coast
    Serbia & Montenegro
    Holland

Is the Group of Death TM

England will be happy enough even if Sweden was utterly predictable!

I tuned in late, saw a quick glimpse of the Ivory Coast flag and thought we somehow got in:D
Fancy England to do well, apparently if they top their group they meet the runner up in the Germany group.
Have my bets now: Brazil to win, Adriano top scorer and Germany & Portugal to top their groups. I'm gonna be rich, now what do I spend the money on.

You can say that again, Portugal will top theirs. Don't know how they were seeded behind Mexico.

Germany couldn't have been given a handier draw to help them progress and keep national interest in the event alive.

Portugal weren't seeded because of their poor performance at the last tounament. I think Mexico deserve their seeding. They always do well at the World cup. Wouldn't be surprised if they topped the group.

Can't see them doing it TBH. Portugal won't underperform again.

Just looked at Sky's website and they have a tagline about their forthcoming world cup coverage that says "Look out next year for our Germany 2006 micro-site which will be our best ever".

I'm sure they say that to all the ladies :)

yep that one:o . Looking at it again I wonder will Italy qualify from their group?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

    Costa Rica?

Well (had we qualified) it'd costa lot to see the lads in Germany and the team would guarentee to rica on the pitch but I think that's where the similarities start and end.

I'm sure there will be some upsets and a couple of the seeds wont get to the second round. Before the draw I would have said Italy, France and Mexico were the most vunerable but they got the 3 easyist groups. I think Italy may fall this time if they dont get a good start.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

I think Italy are going to have a good tournament. Better than Holland and some of the other tipped teams anyway.

Some goon was on Newstalk talking about the groups. He reckons Sweden are leagues ahead of England and that they would hammer them in the WC, saying they would beat them by 2 0r 3 goals and that england would then struggle to get out of the group. What planet is he on?

    Lemlin wrote:

That Germany - Poland game is going to be explosive for all sorts of reasons, not least historical. To rub salt in the wounds, on the football side of things a polish friend of mine was telling me that there are 2 polish born players in the German squad who turned their backs on their country of birth to play for Germany. Miroslav Klose is one and I can't think of the other at the moment. The 2 of them are despised in polish footballing circles.

Im not predicting a thing, but i love this draw. There are a few groups where no team is an assumption to go through.

    GROUP A
    Germany
    Costa Rica
    Poland
    Ecuador

What can you say. Obvious favourites are Germany and Poland, but there will be an upset here. Ecuador to cause it.

    GROUP B
    England
    Paraguay
    Trinidad & Tobago
    Sweden

This group, IMO, wont suit England. They need "big" teams, as, as has been seen, they dont react well to the smaller nations. They should go through, but so should have Argentina in 2002.

    GROUP C
    Argentina
    Ivory Coast
    Serbia & Montenegro
    Holland

What a group. My God, the football we will enjoy here. This could go any way, probaly in the predictable fashion, but who knows? Holland Vs Argentina. I remember the last time. What a gmae.

    GROUP D
    Mexico
    Iran
    Angola
    Portugal

One of the few predictable ones. I fancy Mexico for semis at least. They have nada to fear of the big South American teams, as they have comfortably beaten them in recent itmes. The other two, great if they do something, but seriously doubt anything.

    GROUP E
    Italy
    Ghana
    USA
    Czech Republic

The other "group of death". With this one, nothing is certain. Each of these four would fancy theire progress.

    GROUP F
    Brazil
    Croatia
    Australia
    Japan

Apart from Brazil, its a scrap for the 2nd place. One would assume Croatia will take it, but the others will be strong.

    GROUP G
    France
    Switzerland
    South Korea
    Togo

France should easily win this one, Id like to think Togo will be the surprise package.

    GROUP H
    Spain
    Ukraine
    Tunisia
    Saudi Arabia

Easiest group. If Spain and Ukraine dont come through, they should just quit.

Man,. I love the world cup. Cant Wait.

    Looking forward to it already.

Watch out for Nakamura at this world cup. :) He has played the biggest part in 7 of Celtic's last 9 goals other than putting it in the back of the net. In other words, he has set up 7 of Celtic's last 9 goals. Celtic were lost without him against Dunfermline. A bargain at £2.7m.

[looks at map on the wall] , they're from West Africa and are beside to Ghana(to the west), Benin(to the East) and Burkino Faso (to the north) and south of them they have the ocean . They are near Nigeria and their county is about as long as Ireland but much much thinner .

The capital is Lome to the very south , beside the ocean .

England vs Sweden in Cologne. Damn. Lucky I live outside the city, my place shouldn't get burned to the ground. Other group games here are Czech Republic vs Ghana, Angola vs Portugal and Togo vs France. Second round game is Group G winners (most likely France) against Group H runners up (most likely Spain or the Ukraine). I've applied for tickets to all 5 games in Cologne and put down France as my favourite team on the applications. How many Togo fans do you think there'll be coming to Germany next summer? Will hopefully get at least 1 game in.

Sorry if you took offence, the comment was tongue in cheek. I mean I hardly think people are going to go round setting fire to things. But after what happened in France 98 I'm just not particularly looking forward to a load of England fans coming to the city where I live for a world cup game. With the old England - Germany rivalry and it being England's first game in the world cup... things could get out of hand, if some people start acting like gobsh*tes.

Watched the draw in a pub here, me, two English blokes and an Aussie in his Socceroos jersey.

There were three reporters and a TV camera in the pub too,so they asked me for an interview. Told them my name, and that I was from Ireland.

Are Ireland in the WC? - No, we didn't qialify.

Are you here because of the Socceroos?- What in this pub now? No I came in for a drink, and saw the draw was on.

No,we meant are you in Australia because of the Socceroos -

How do you think the Socceroos will do? - She-ite, they won't come out of the group.

A fellaI know from going to the Sydney FC games reckons they will come second in their group, beating Croatia in the last game.

Italy 4-1 Germany. They're still at 9/1 and if anyone is a betting man I don't see how they could resist that. Italy are the best team in Europe on current form and I can only see Brazil stopping them from winning the world cup if their form continues. Odds will probably drop tomorrow.
