Recently in New York and got a copy of Men's Fitness - although the mag was full of adverts... they had a great workout programme that has really done wonders for me and has got me out of that plateau.

I want to keep this going and would like similar exercise routines. Anyone know any good sites?

I workout from home and just use free weights and bench - so workouts with as little machine use as possible is more what im interested in!

    Thanks
    Tom

i think t-nation is good too. a bit amerikany but science is usually/always sound and great practical info. best i'd say of all the internet sites for training info. also remember its edited by very qualified staff. MOst/all are scientists and also train themselves. so they have empathy too. (very important)- many have coached and competed extensively and VERY successfuly and most important of all their articles cater for the drug free lads as well as the assisted. and its got some very funny side articles too like the atomic dog ones. hilarious.

all in all i think this site has done a lot to clear up the quagmire of what is the fitness industry. the myths, the marketing hype, all the untruths. you wouldnt believe what many people think! EX: just the other day a man asked me why i was taking steroids. i said what. then he explained he was on about my protein shake...anyone interested in fitness, nutrition would do themselves a good un to read more stuff there.

    i don't think its great.

like i said in my previous post 'empathy' is NB. I find much of the info. from the ACSM and the NSCA (national strength and conditioning ass.) AMerican) lacks empathy. in other words too much impractical info done by scientists who never train. now contrast this to the russian sports scienctists and their advocates. like MEL SIFF from south africa. this kind of science is waaaaay more practical, better researched (i think) and works better practical. i even had the great experience to work with a head editor of one of these journals and i was not impressed. i was going to do a study on a type/mode of advanced resistance training(that USSR was doing for decades) and even though he had edited a study about it did not know the ins and outs of the training i was going on about. to make a long story short i think this exrx.net is a great example. i browsed it and found the same themes. impractical and cliched info. like for example the periodisation recommended therein. come on this is why the USSR and other commie countries dominated power sports for so long. cos they knew how to plan their training properly. the west(us) has all their info now and why in gods name dont sites like this post it??? cos the people who write them: don't train themselves, are close minded and dont read enough. what a rant. please feel free to discuss this issue further or even start a new thread if anyone else cares
