When you are sending text messages do you use the predictive text or just the manual way? Opinions please!

Predictive, people who use the other way must have the fastest thumbs on earth.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,139 ✭✭✭Sauron

until quite recently I was strictly manual... predictive text was the devil.. but I got used to it and now I'd never go back.. it's so much faster and easier to use..
    predictive ftw

Non-predictive for me. It's just easier. It's not that much slower...

Non-predictive. I can't stand when I get "he" instead of "if" in a message.

    I know, I'm weird.

    Quoted for truth.

Predictive-it's so much easier!! Especially if you're into spelling things properly...I hate the way you have to teach it to swear though!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,564 ✭✭✭✭whiskeyman

    predictive.
Could have done with a poll here.

Can get a bit odd though when you text your mates asking if they want to go for a few riots or shots.
Always review what it's put in before sending...

I hate that too, still I wouldn't change just for that. A lot of people understand you if you make that mistake. A friend in school said something was "book" today, instead of cool.
Predictive text gives a whole new meaning to words.

predictive, although when drunk my messages often make no sense what so ever, i just type and don't check to see what words are coming up :P

    personally non predictive!

I actually would have had I known how to set up a poll; do I send a message to the mod or what do I do?

    predictive sha la la la

Predictive definitely... Its so slow without!
My mam sometimes asks me to send a text for her from her phone & she doesn't have predictive which drives me nuts. She got the predictive option taken off her phone - don't ask me how...

Hah, it'd be awesome if "book" became a common synonym for "cool".

    "MAN THAT SH*T IS BOOK!"

All who approve this change say aye..... aye!
You think we could all try this on boards?
Lets give it a go.... it would be so book!

Stephen Fry was discussing the continous development of the English language on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross recently. He was talking about his nephew (or someone of equal stature) saying things were "book" instead of "cool" due to predictive text... So perhaps it's more widespread than previously thought.

Nah, find manual to be easier most of the time. Had a brief flirtation with predictive on an old nokia though.

since you have to spell words properly in predictive text i'd recommend manual for you :):):):):):)

    sorry

surely manual texting encourages bad spelling!? if you spell a word wrong in predictive text you get random crap out. in fact if i'm not sure how to spell a word i often type it into my phone knowing that if i spell it wrong good old predictive text will tell me

me and my mates call each other by our predictive text names: charco (ciaran), recoup (seamus), carry (barry) etc

    Predictive. It's so much booker.

manual dont know why i've just always found it easier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,469 ✭✭✭Pythia

Predictive all the way. The boyf uses manual as he doesn't really understand how to use predictive. It's obvious isn't it? Especially on a nokia.

    Hah, I had no idea.

Now the idea has lost its appeal :/

Predictive all the way. Never used manual bar the obvious exceptions of older phones lacking said feature.

All my friends use it too but one is too lazy to bother changing the words.

He once used my phone when I was asleep to send the following message to a girl I knew from college

I want to kick your puppy.

Guess what he was trying to say.

God bless predictive text. Turned an embarressing fiasco into a managable confusion.

Manual texting is yer only man. I can't stand predictive texting, at least i know what I'm going to get wit manual.

For all those who don't understand predictive texing:

You press the key with your letter once, no matter if it is the first, second or third letter, only press it once!

You do this with all the letters in your word, and most of the time, you'll get the right word in the end.

But if you don't, fear not! The * key (on Nokias anyway) will change the word untill the right one will come up. NOTE: Only real words (or whatever the Dictionary recognises) will come up, so if it's an Irish name or an Irish placename, it probably won't come up, but you can type it in when the option "Spell" comes up, and from then on, your phone will recognise it.

    Hope it helps.

    Predictive without a doubt.
The speed you can right messages at. I dont really have to check what words are coming up anymore, just know how many clicks to change "he" to "if" etc. All thanks to Meteor to Meteor free :D

    predictive all the way

i used to type messages manually but when i started with predictive i realised it was just so much easier

both, depending on mood and what I want to say.

Manual only, predictive drives me up the wall.

I don't want to have to "teach" my phone words, it's too much hassle for no gain.

Strictly manual... I hate predictive text!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,648 ✭✭✭dundalk cailin

ive had a nokia of some description for the last 4 years, bar a 3 month period when i had a sagem, i use predictive text, never manual, you nearly know without lookin how many taps of * gets your desires word, eg dont is two. my sisters cant use predicitve text  its so handy!! my friends use manual as well, when i use their phones, they're always like 'put it back to normal text'!!! drunken mesages are funny, i do the same, typing the wrong word.. the 'i want to kick your puppy' is a classic :D
my friend said she was getting the 'cup' into town and had i 'food' my christmas shopping!!

As the bulk of texts are rubbish anyway, I confine my texting to Vodafone webmail. Rapid and no sore thumbs nor anti social texting in the pub/resto.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

text messages are the work of the devil. I never answer them as the text on the screen is too small. was easier to read on the older nokias, but since the colourdy mms screens came in the text has gotten tiny.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 488 ✭✭watsgone

Maybe you should get the Simply phones.

Manual all the way, I want to make my own spelling mistakes thank you

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,583 ✭✭✭limerick_man

Predictive, i have like 200 to write a day, havent got the time to be waiting around!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭marshmallow

Manual. If you make a mistake in one letter people usually understand what the word is but if it's on predictive and a whole word is different and not just the obvious 'he' or 'if', you have to try and figure out what they're trying to say. So I find it annoying!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 374 ✭✭IceHawk

Predictive, I just hate people who use txt spk, mostly because before my sister got a phone she would use mine to send messages. She's not too bright and, not knowing how to use predictive, she would manually turn off the dictionary(instead of pressing the shift key twice). This really annoyed me. You have to be able to spell to use predictive, though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭Tobias Greeshman

Predictive... I just can't use the manual one at all it takes me for ever to type out the message I want. I can't believe so many people on here use manual, I just thought old people used it.
