Is cheating widespread in COD2?

I have been playing COD2 regularly lately and I have noticed that there are either an awful lot of people who do nothing else but play this or are cheating by using aimBots. When watching the KillCam after being shot, sometimes you can barely even make out yourself from the other players angle yet they always pick you off with one shot as soon as you come around a corner or something.

Surely these people are using aimBots. Out of curiosity I downloaded one myself the other night and tried it out. It certainly explains how they can know when you are about to come around a corner anyway.

Before anyone jumps on me for using one of these things, it was just a test. I deleted it immediately after seeing how it worked as it ruined the game I thought.

I would just like to know peoples thoughts on this. Maybe I am just crap at it though but I really can't see how so many people are able to pull off these shots all the time.

well i dunno how widespread it is but there is something funny with the hitboxes in cod2.

Definitely. I was playing yesterday and everything was fine, then went to another server and my shots just were'nt killing, was well annoying. As for the amount of cheaters, its really hard to tell. I just cant wait for the anticheat to come out. I wonder how many people will be caught out on the first day

I havet seen a whole lot of aimbots and stuff like that (maybe I havent looked closely enough) but I have seen people using a map exploit on Burgundy to get into one of the walls and just lean out when they want to shoot. Bastards

I'd say EU has MUCH less cheating than the US.

Well either way im not going out and buying the game till they get some anti cheat into it. Its anoying when ya get killed by a reallly good player but thats part of the game. And so too it seems is cheating.

I don't know if there are a lot of cheaters yet on CoD2 in the EU. It's not as bad as when CoD1 came out anyway... To be perfectly honest, I certainly don't think I've come across any cheaters. Maybe it crossed my mind that somebody was using a wallhack or something but I always gave the benefit of the doubt.

I do agree with you all though: if PunkBuster is not released very soon for CoD2, it will kill the CoD family... I'll even stop playing it (and that's something!)

i was on a server last thursday and one guy ran into the miine field got blown off his feet got up move another few feat, same thing happen until he made out of field, personal think as well as there being something wrong with hit box there are many people cheating. playing a lan game the same night got hit after i went around a corner looked funny on kilcam when i was hit you couldn`t see the enemy.

This happens to me a lot! What a pain in the neck! The hit boxes seem a little flawed in CoD2...

i don't think i've seen that much cheating in the games i've played. i've been playin pretty much solid since it came out and i know there has been one or two people kicked for cheating but not that many.

I was on a server yesterday, and there was someone very obviously using a wall-hack. Thing is, he was rubbish, with final scores 4 kills & 8 deaths. Its people like this who are going to be slammed when the anti-cheat comes out, and wont know why they cant play on most servers anymore. You'll see the day the anti-cheat comes out, that a lot of the 'pros' will suddenly be rubbish, the game will just be a lot more enjoyable to play. At the moment i cant play a game without the paranoia that the players with good scores are hacking. Its a shame really...

Don't worry about it the paranoia is widespread, a good few servers I play on whoevers in first spot or has a good kill/death ratio is usually accused of using hacks, but Personally I haven't seen many people using hacks, seen a good few using that map exploit though.

Connected to a French server last night at around 3:00 A.M. Started playing like I usually do. I bashed 2 guys in the first round and after 4~5 rounds my score was around 17-1. And then they all started abusing me, asking me which cheats I was using etc etc... Doesn't bother me though. I take it as a compliment

tbh i have not seen 1 single cheater (that i was 100% sure on), since i started playing, and i'm after playing 100+ hours so far.

I deffinately don't see the point in being paranoid about. Leave them off, well at least until there is an anti-cheat out.
Think of it this way, whats the point in worrying about whethere or not someone is cheating, most cheaters as already said are usually (this is a guess) unskilled (even with hacks), immature and between the age of 11-14.
So what if they cheat, ok maybe i do care a bit, but there is very little can be done anyway.

Best thing to do is, if there is a guy cheating and he kills you, change your plan of attack to just killing him, kill him a couple of times, a few headshots thrown in for good measure, and then 1 of 2 things will happen:
a) He will accuse you of cheating, which is the funniest thing ever, and then leave the server. or
b) just leave straight away.


I must say though that i fell COD2 is fairly cheat free atm, maybe its just that i'm not paranoid and not on the lookout for cheaters the whole time

I went on 3 different cod2 servers today, on each of them there was someone being accused of hacking. Ive only seen one guy that i was 100% sure was cheating.
I dont think its widespread in cod2. I put alot of this down to people thinking because theres no punkbuster everybody is hacking. That and morons accusing peeps of wall hacking, because there sitting in a room using the voice commands - "hold this position" etc and you can hear exactly where they are.

Well when you are playing well and get called a cheater it is a compliment true but harder to prove when there is no PB. PB wont still stop the cheaters just make it harder.

I'm about to get CoD2, and was looking forward to MP, but it sounds like cheating abounds. hopefully its squashed soon.

In my experience of cheaters in the half-life mods, the cheaters were always rubbish players, and even cheating, rarely excelled.

I used to be called a cheater a lot becuase I owned their sorry hides, then I stopped playing a while, they all got better and now they don't accuse me any more

I've been on a few different servers over the last while and have seen only one case of obvious cheating, so i wouldn't say its too widespread. Its the only MP game i can really play on dial up, so i reckon i'd notice if someone is on the dodge.

G.F.F. is great for COD2, and theres always a good buzz during the games.

Heh Delly, I have a 56k connection and I was wondering how many bps you are getting, also what type of settings do you apply to your connection e.g do you use hardware of software compression? and what frame rate do you set your modem at for the optimum performance?
I find I can log onto a game and for say 5 mins it is killer but i soon time out and lag, does this happen to you? and what do you do to combat this?
The spec on my pc is above average so its not processor speed which is dragging me down, any suggestions?

I have found that a normal 56k can vary from 4kb/s upwards. My own is at about 12kb/s. This is using a payed subscription from eircom at a tenner a month. Even with IOL free i get a good connection. I also let the ISP set up the modem with its default configuration. I get 91fps in the game itself which also helps.

have to agree with you there. the amount of guys who can see through walls and smoke is amazing. seems to be a lot its almost impossible to kill. the difference on a server with no cheaters on it is actual fun. did anyone notice on a few servers they took out the trenchgun or noobgun as it seems to be called now.:D

According to statistics, thousands have downloaded the most recent cod2 hack. So yeh, they are out there. Luckily anti cheat soon will clean things up a bit.

I get 91fps in the game itself which also helps.

Hey Delly 91 is the default fps cap.
If you get a solid 91 i reckon you can achieve more.
Type com_maxfps 0 in console and it will remove this 91 fps cap and watch your fps shoot skyward.
If you prefer you can maybe limit to 150 fps or something,i just set it to 0 which means no limit.
I get between 300-500 fps in dx7 and 80-150 in dx9.

Thats done the trick all right. Getting around the 150 mark now.
