    Hi,

I was thinking of taking part in a week long sailing school holiday in Croatia next year with a tour operator based here.

Would you experts recommend these courses?

I've no experience of sailing at all (a little white water rafting)

Hmmm.. Well you will have a nice holiday. I haven't sailed in Croatia.

A good barometer is to check what qualification would be delivered. RYA qualifications are offered worldwide and highly regulated.

Try to take a competent crew course before you go and then aim at getting a day skipper qualification while you are there

I agree ! RYA and ISA courses qualify for International Certificates of Competency.

Another option is to train here and go on a practice holiday in Croatia.

I think that Concorde Travel have an arrangement with some of the ISA Traning Schools here

I've only heard good things on this subject. A friend of mine was there a few years ago...lapping up the atmosphere to be had on the adriatic sea. And then decided to go back again! Other people who I know who are involved massivly in sailing sailed in similar areas and also truely loved the experience. I couldnt tell you the specifics in regards locations or places to go to for the best courses, but I've been told its a fantastic area for it.

Try DunLaoghaire Sail Training. Jim there runs fantastic competent crew courses on the most wonderful 38 foot yacht. Highly recommended before you go to Croatia. I did a course with him before I went and I'm glad I did. He must be one of Ireland's most experienced navigators and I learnt so much for him. His course prices are really reasonable also. Enjoy Croatia. Sailing holidays are the best. The ISA should give you Jim's number.
