Buy 4 clamps, one for each wheel.
And stick a potato in the exhaust... and chewing gum in the keyholes.
And glue the wiper-blades to the windscreen.

Don't forget a generous helping of hose pipe leading from the exhaust into the back window. :)

A well known Islandbridge gentleman sells tiny tiny bottles of fluorosulphuric acid for this purpose alone. Don the rubber gloves and pour the acid into where the locking pin is and walk away. Come back in about 30 minutes and the lock will fall to bits with one tip of a small hammer!

I'm reliably informed that the practice of clamping is completely illegal, but in order to get your E85 back, you'd have to take the Irish government all the way to the EU's European Court of Justice. Damn I know what I'd do if I had won the EuroMillions!

You're in college. Particularly if you're an Engineering student, you won't get thrown out of college. (I don't know why, but Eng students have a particular affinity for such pranks and are usually given more leeway).

I'd suggest that once the security guard has cursed the situation, and gone for a phone, (And you have taken your photos/video) you remove the clamp. (Be sure that he is not waiting in a spy position to see who might do it)

We all await with baited breath the resulting footage.

    NTM

just dont have any evidence showing you were involved.get a friend who isnt in that college to stick the clamp on and you direct the mission! even if the clampers find your friend doing it all he has to do is walk away as they have no powers to stop him or restrain him or anything.

So where did you park? Fire exit? Disabled parking spot?

Which part of the college budget should be cut to cover the costs of the additional parking spaces you suggest? And when those spaces fill up, what would you suggest?

Let's hope you're signed up for the 'Growing Up' course next semester.

The acting of private clamping is been questioned in the UK as these people who clamp haven't been trained properly in how to clamp so no damaged is done to the car.

You'll be arrested and hopefully prosecuted.

 you would defo get in trouble. I remember when I was studying criminal law and did this case where a fellow broke the clamp off his car with an angle grinder and thus was prosecuted for criminal damage. I would assume that something similar would apply to putting a clamp on someone else's car:eek:

Excellent, clamping it won't get you in trouble.

It's the actual "getting caught" part that will get you F*****d, so don't get caught :-)

Do it clamp those F*ckers, They are a private company and they are not interested in whether you or anyone else breaks the law they only want to make money and such practices are illegal anyway under the constitution. I hope you get your revenge and when and if you are clamped again, Get the bolt cutters ready and cut their clamp off your car, Use an angle grinder too if necessary.

BEST IDEA EVER: Clamp your own car.

Do it near where you know they sometimes stop (but where you can alse park legally). Then angle grind it off the wheel. When they see you doing it, they'll run over, where you can then tell them to fúck off.

Its your car, your wheel, and your clamp: what can they do about it?

In all fairness, ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. It translates something like "Can I get in trouble for purposely damaging college property, which yes, is a criminal offence?" Nah, they'll probably send you a written apology for clamping you in the first place.

In Paris when clamping started people used to put superglue into the locks. Not just the owners of the clamped car ! So after about two weeks the clampers gave up.

So pay the €85 and then throw a hissy fit and demand compensation when they can't unclamp the car.

€39 each - simply buy four - you can't put two clamps on the same wheel.

A friend of mine was clamped by the 'real' clampers on Fri night. He realised at about 1am that he was clamped, and had to be somewhere by 1.15am. Then he noticed that part of the clamp was a bit bent out of shape. Naturally, he forced the clamp off the wheel by exploiting the bent bit until the whole clamp was warped. Off he went to his 1.15am rendevous on time.

So the next day he's sitting at home and rings the clampers, saying something like "Yeah I came to my car and there was stickers on it and stuff, but the clamp was lying on the ground beside the car, like someone had pulled it off." They asked could he please drop it back to them. He asked would they drop the €85 if he did - they said no, so he paid the €85 said they can come pick it up themselves then. He lives in Cork and was clamped in Dublin.

Do it, clampers are keniving(Sp?) **** who employ greasy clowns to do their underhand work

I got caught for 65 bones the other day... parked my car around the side of a suppliers shop, went in for literally 30 seconds to pick up a box and came out to find a yellow faced knob gobbler smirking at the side of my car. He hadnt put the clamp on yet so I ran over and said 'Woh Woh, i was in the shop for 30 seconds, isnt this public parking?"... He replies 'no', points at a sign high on the wall, and says that the shop next door have 'claimed the street' for private parking. So then I asked, where am I supposed to park?He replies around the front. But unfortunately, around the front is double yellow lined up the road, so I guess im supposed to park on the footpath. He just mumbles 'not my problem'

I've never been so enraged in my life. Even had to give my cc number to some scummer down the phone.. Felt like fcukin it at the clampers face!!!!

    @ neon_glows

It will be a waste of your money, the clamper wuld probably have that argos clamp off in a jiffy. So €39 euro down the pan and plus you still have to pay the clamping fine on top of what you paid for a beaten, chop sawed clamp.

If no adequate signs are in place im going to cause ****, hey found the below on the goverment website:

Vehicle clamping is in place in the cities of Dublin, Cork and Galway. Services are operated in these cities by private companies on behalf of the local authority. Employees of the vehicle clamping company are entitled to clamp (and de-clamp vehicles) and issue clamping notices for vehicles that are in violation of the parking regulations. Clamping services are also common in car parks of hotels, hospitals, universities and shopping centres to discourage long-term parking at the expense of staff, customers or clients. Clamping on private property is not covered by legislation and owners must make sure that there are adequate signs and warnings notifying the public that clamping is in operation and that full contact details for the company enforcing the clamping are easily available.

    Also:

Fines can be paid by cash, cheque, credit card and Laser card. Further details are available from your local authority.

    My CC was refused.

and the below seems like a good idea to waste some sentry security time, hehe, im evil

    How to apply
    Complaints
To make a general complaint or an appeal concerning the operation of the clamping or towing service, you can contact your local authority. It will either have staff dealing with queries and complaints from members of the public or it can give you contact details for whatever company is responsible for parking control in that area. You can either make your complaint by phone or you can write to the relevant authorities, giving details and enclosing any documents that may help your case. Most complaints will be acknowledged within days of receipt. Your claim will be investigated and you should receive a response within a month.

You can also appeal against a parking ticket if you feel you have been fined unfairly. Take as much detail of the scene as you can (photographs, details of road markings, etc) and send them to the local authority traffic division with your parking ticket and a letter outlining your complaint.

Reaver is there a master key for these clamps? mmm, walk around and unclamp people sounds like fun, and no i dont think clamping students cars (students being poor people) and charging them 50euro is grown up.

I aint eaten for two days because of that fine :-(

I think I know the college in question,
    where abouts did you park?

It used drive me absolutely nutz when people parked in the motorbike/scooter area only.

Law & BnL day in UCD has collections every morning by the students for Temple St Children's hospital. Usually raises over €20,000 mostly collected in buckets but some other small events.
On the day had to count it in a small room with some helpers, had 2 hired security men. Every counted couple of grand we'd go off to lodge it in the on campus to reduce any robbery risk. One security guy would stay with the money the other would come with us in the car.
Arrive at bank, no spaces so park but still park near bank but not obstructing anything, there was just no white lines (if you knew the place it was in front of those really wide steps). We had to park close because the buckets were very, very heavy. Full to the brim with change.
In there a couple of minutes while the bank took it in, come out and the car is clamped with the van still there.
Still wouldn't remove it even though it was for charity..bastads.
