Will RTE be broadcasting the final, plus a doc two weeks later? Or is the doc the only televised part.

Is that an edited highlights, last day, final table, for later showing broadcast?

Presenter is still up in the air --- please, please, please let it be someone who plays poker.

It couldn't be live. Too boring. Must get my video recorder serviced.

Poker has arrived if RTE are showing it.

Yernan, Ryle Nugent, who does the RTE Heineken Cup rugby commentary plays poker .....nice fellah as well.

Pat kenny is doing the commentary except for the 6th when he'll be doing the late late. Marty Whelan will be stepping in for him.

Poker wont have arrived if this is shown, fact is RTE have to show a certain amount of Irish made shows every night, recently theyve shown all sorts of crazy stuff like kids rugby.

If Pat Kenny (sponsored by Renault, Ireland's safest car) is doing the commentary then feck it..... back to the golf for 2006

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 636 ✭✭✭Pokerevents

It will a documentary on the entire 3 day event, with most of the air time going to the final table. It is 55 minutes long and will feature interviews with some of the super sat quailifiers, on-line qualifiers celebs, and professionals.

Mmmm Pat Kenny. If that plank, with his pre-arranged questions (and he does not listen to the answers) does the show then I want him to interview Padraig Parkinson. ....... PP will take the pp big time. :):):)

I agree. Marty does have experience hosting a gambling show.

lol totally agree. All the possible presenters mentioned above are just not suitable. You need somebody with sleazy qualities such as Gerry Anderson to do it.

You want somebody with sleazy qualities, and yet you don't want Pat Kenny? There's just no pleasing some people......

Culchie - you've just moved down a few hundred notches in my estimation there. The guy is knowledgable but a very bad presenter . :p

My vote is Ger Gilroy form Newstalk106. This guy is a great presenter and a radio presenter is the best option for this gig as they need to be able to 'paint pictures' and get the most from the 'colour commentator'. This guy is the best there is in Ireland at the moment and I'd love to see him get this gig before he goes 'big-time'.

I agree 100% that Ger Gilroy would be great for this...maybe someone from the poker community as his sidekick, they would need to be able to talk alot of crap to fill time.Maybe Mike (shortstack):p

I remember that..:D,he will not be happy with you for bringing that back up again. He said he was just awake but he always sounds like that.

Dave,You would also be well able for this number...many a time I have heard you "fill time" at the tables.

Decisions,Decisions....feck it I go with that bloke/thing from Telly Bingo.Much better than you two.

You are right Big D. The only fly in the ointment is that RTE is doing the telly and I'd guess it is daggers drawn between RTE and Newstalk. I listen to Newstalk all the time on the daily slog Stillorgan/Airport and most of the Newstalk people would be ok. Ger Kilroy has the right combo - an informed pisstaker.

Not a problem actually - Ger Gilroy was presenting an RTE GAA magazine show during the summer called ParkLife.

    Ok, it's looking like this.
Presenter will be Daire O Brien (freelancer with Setanta at the moment)
Commentary will be done by Roy "the Boy" and Andy Black.

Mike *was* just awake for that radio thing. We'd been working until about 2:30 and then went on the beer. They rang us for some midday thing so it was early our time and what you can't hear in the background is me in the next bed over laughing my ass off at Mike trying to wake up as fast as he can, sober up too and explain holdem on national radio!

He did that whole thing, lying on his back with one hand over his eyes... :)

    DeV.

Well after that then commentating on the final table whilst ON the final table should be a piece'o'piss for him ;)

BTW whoever lined up that gig for him deserves to be hung.

Sean Moncrieffe should be ok. he has the right amount of disrespect.
Andy Black and Big Tony are sound.
Don't know this Mike Carson guy? Or do I? Why not Frank Carson?

I love the Sean Moncrieffe show, good choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 636 ✭✭✭Pokerevents

Mike Carson works for channel 5 as a soccer commentater. To his credit he has also done the pacific poker tournament and more recently a few scandinavian poker programmes. He's american and people will reconize his voice more than his name.
I'm delighted Sean is on board. My sister is a hugh fan.

So the players will send him text messages of their hole cards ?

do the voice ... do the voice

    [txt]Hi Sean, I have AKoff[/txt]
What's that then Tony? What does he mean by his AK is off. Does he mean it smells or something?

Well actually Sean, it means they're of different suits.

Ah yes. I see. Right. His cards are wearing different suits. ooookay
[txt]Hi Sean, I bet 5 times the big blind there because I had a huge hand and wanted them to think I was trying to push them off the pot.[/txt]

Now Andy. Whats that all about? Does that mean he can't see what he's doing? And if he's trying to push them off the pot does he mean he wants all the ganja for himself?

No Sean, the big blind is the forced bet that the other player has to put in to start the action.

Ah I see. I think. So they're forced to bet blind so they can't see whats going on. Do they wear blindfolds or somethin'? Is it like blind man's buff or that thing ... whatchamacallit ...? Blinkered Lesbian kick boxing?
And what about the pot Tony? Surely if ya can't smoke cigarettes in here they'd hardly let ya light up a spliff now, would they?

    eh, no Sean that ....

[txt]Hi Sean, I caught trips on the flop and put him all-in[/txt]

hmmmm... yes, all sounds very exciting. He must have got some of yer man's weed there and got stoned, and this all-in business ... yes, hmmm, there seem to be some homosexual undertones to this game. hmmmm... very strange indeed. Maybe that's why it's called Hold'em. Ok, it's over to Ciara from the AA. Hi Ciara, so, did you put anyone all-in last night then ? ......

I didn't have the heart to watch the final table the following day after being knocked out..

    Hi,

Tranmission is Friday 3rd Feb (fri week) at 11.30p.m. after the late late show.
I watched the 54 minute programme yesterday and it's a slick piece of work.
Padraig Parkinson replaced Andy Black as a commentater as Andy was unavailable.
    Regards.

i take it the commentary was added afterwards then, as i met parkinson on that sunday around the time the final table was on, and he could hardly stand.........

This is a one hour complete programme not a series.
The commentary was done after the event. Padraig did have a limp. He told me he hurt his big toe earlier that day.
