Having spent years keeping fit and enjoying exercise just for the hell of it I never had to motivate myself, but after doing damage to my back I cant seem to return to my old habits. I dont want to return to the gym or a trainner if I cant go the distance, would an online trainner work, would they get me or keep me motivated, or are they all talk???

a personal trainer would keep you motivated better! if you are a competative person id advise getting a gym buddy about the same physique as yourself and yous can compete with eachother! i find this motivates me greatly! im highly competative and if i see someone lifting higher then me i do all i can to beat them! just an idea!

you need to motivate yourself. if the online trainer can teach you that after a few sessions(so that you are then autonomous and able to train yourself) then good otherwise you're just a big $ to them..

I actually do online training for my clients. It does not however in any way compare to an actual trainer standing their pushing you and watching to make sure you're technique is perfect.

In many ways online training is no different then a good book. It will provide you with great information, but if you don't apply it - nothing happens except you lose money.

The manner in which I offer online training is as a supplement to my in person clients. For example, some of my clients would not be able to afford my standard daily rate and would perhaps only train with me once a week, or fortnightly, or even once a month. These clients would get a workout program from me for that length of time, I would teach them the exercises and we would then set goals that they must reach. This keeps them motivated, but I also follow up with emails, phonecalls, and they can read the atricles, tips etc in my memebrs section.

Online training does work as an additional tool you can use. Many of my clients will log in at work and print off their days workout and bring it with them, or review the exercises that we''ll be dong and find it very helpful.

Other don't ever bother to log in.

If you're already in a gym (I train in Carlise too by the way), and have a good training partner. Then online training won't offer you much. If you're having trouble staying motivated, then perhaps you should look into specialised motviation techniques, such as NLP, and just analysing the reason your working out.
