I heard about them for asthma, looking for something for my
dad for christmas, hes 60 smoked for 35 years now off them,
    but has a bad chest.

    thanks

Book on Buteyko Breathing is excellent for everyone, be they asthmatic or just regular person looking to improve breathing technique. You can find it in Easons - it's about 12euro, can't remember the exact name of it though.

i would look to yoga. in my teenage years it really helped with my breathing. ow i just take it for granted. i breath like a child. into the belly rather than the chest. its more relaxing and such. grown ups stress out and breath with the rise and fall of their chest.

definately yoga. i think many/most of the eastern martial arts like tai chi teach breathing very well. traditionally at least. not so much nowadays perhaps.

i heard of this from a trainee and they claimed it was great but i can't say i know aught about it! from what they said though it fixed them good.

Buteyko is the best around if its specifically for breathing and thats coming from a yoga teacher.

Teaches you how to belly breathe, stop breathing through your mouth and actually learn how to breath less due to correct breathing.

I was taught it from a guy in Dun Laoghaire who was amazing and it works wonders for asthmatics.
