    Bill Bayley

Because he gave jokes such as

Bring forth the chalkey dust of the love slamon.
    The Pigeon has no agenda.
    The Human slaves song...
    & of course

U are not Bill Bayley you are but a Doppelganger I am the real Bill Bayley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭Hmm_Messiah

    Woody Allen, Bob Newhart

I know their stand up seems ancient but the timing and how they can make you imagine the whole scenario
e.g. Woody and the Moose story or Newhart's Bus Drivers training.

Tiernan must be the most naturally talented @ it these days

Bill Bailey makes me laugh outloud so include him
Billy Connolly was funny, now I find irritating and he can join my least favourites:-Lenny Henry (can't believe we thought him funny once, maybe he was..then) and Des Bishop (who states the obvious and is less funny than any person I've ever heard say something funny in a pub)

Ellen Degeneres is probably the funniest of the women comedians, though Victoria Wood has a lovely innocent humour.

    oops Vic Reeves.

    Ricky Gervais / Bill Bailey.

I think the difference between a good and great comedian is the ability to make people laugh outside your own culture.

Billy Connolly can obviously do this, Bill Hicks is another one and Richard Pryor. Besides those two, Bill Bailey is also excellent. Although Tiernan is funny, there's only so much I can take of Irish stand-up. Hence my first statement.

Billy is succesful here because our culture is quite similar to Scotlands, but I don't think he would be as succesful in the States (if they could even understand him). Still a top, top comedian.

Paul Hogan. Anyone remeber his TV show. I used to get stomach cramps and loss of breath from laughing at him. The movies were sh*t though...

    Phil Kay (no, not Peter).
    Funniest comedian I've ever seen.

Jack Dee, Jasper Carrott, Ross Noble, Bill Bailey all get a good look in too...

    Personally i think he's a twat.(bishop )
ive recently heard that he's allegedly been living here for some years (i.e since he was about 12?)which kinda makes the whole "FITTING IN" thing seem a bit hollow.I'd rather go and see "hows yer tits & vagina?" by brendan ocarroll.
jimmy carr is very good but underrated ( probably cos of his media whore activities - he'd appear in a line up uf rapists if the price was right)

For my money in all seriousness its gotta be harry hill.

Most of those mentioned are great acts, Billy Connolly always makes me laugh.
I thought the comedian warming up the crowd before Rip Off Republic (in the Helix) was excellent. He was on that weird Irish football show on TV3 recently, he was giving betting tips, I think his name is Brendan something...
    (not O'Carroll or Grace)

My favourites would have to be Bill Bailey, Billy Connolly, Eddie Izzard, and Dylan Moran (not necessarily in that order).

Dara O'Briain is good live too - he was bloody brilliant on Jack Dee's "Live at the Apollo" show. Paul Merton is also regularly hilarious - only really on "Have I Got News for You" though.

Curse the American TV trash I watch but the best comedians i've seen are Russell Peters and Chris Rock....

Heres a 45min vid Peters made, watch it or "Sombody gonna' get a-hurt realll baddd!"

Ardal O'Hanlon is very good but he doesn't come up with fresh material often enough.
My personal faves are Dylan Moran, Tommy Cooper and Marcus Brigstock.
