Just wondering have Game started to notify people confirmation that the 360 that they had pre-ordered will be available.

If you are either successful or not, it would be better to find out now ahead of Friday.:)

I'd imagine if you preordered it in august, you'd be alright.
I thought a preorder meant you were guarenteed a console anyway.

i pre-ordered around then too and got a call saying my console was booked and asking me what games I wanted with it.

Give them a call i'd say.

You would think so, but to the best of my knowledge the level of pre-orders is easily outstripping actual supply. People are going to be disappointed, even those that pre-ordered.

If you have a deposit down, you'll be grand for launch day. Give Liffey Valley a shout yourself in the morning just to make sure.

Unfotunately not, I have the whole lot paid in full and was told yesterday that I'm not guaranteed to have it next Friday. I booked a day off work and everything! :(

    This was Gamestop btw.

lads i hate to break this news to you but a very close friend owns lets just say a major computer console and games retailer and there is no way i am going to say which one but all they have been allocated for the entire country is 12.

Sorry lads but chances of getting one before xmas gets worse by the day.

yeah what use is that info without the name?

  • Subscribers Posts: 3,703 ✭✭✭TCP/IP

lads i am sure you can appricate that I can not release the store name, believe me even if you knew it would make no difference as changing your order from this chain to another would be useless as everybody is already sold out with pre bookings

mate i have no interest at all in as you call it scare mongering, I am trying to bring some information that was preesented to me and pass it on to people. I am certainly not know for providing bad info on boards. Just trying to advise thats all it is up to people to belive it or not

    Thanks,

You Are Right Less Of An Allocation Than Expected !!!!!!!! Nnnnoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone From Galway Where Did Ye Preorder Yours? And Have Ye Heard If They Will Have Enough Stock ?? Also Anyone Any Ideas Of Any Shops Opening Early For Launch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,891 ✭✭✭Macker1

I paid a visit to Game in Liffey Valley this morning. I asked the manager about my pre-order and his response was as follows.

The shop would be calling people during the week regarding the 360, he asked had I paid the €20 deposit, I said yes back in Aug, to which he replied that I should be ok for getting a system on Friday as ordered.

Personally I'm quite dubious and will not take it for granted until its in my hand.

Just getting a premium console pack & PDZ, not interested in the bundles, even though the shop would much more prefer to sell the overpriced bundles. Call me paranoid but I've a funny feeling that the shop will act silly buggers and try to sell the bundles and make more money.

  • Subscribers Posts: 3,703 ✭✭✭TCP/IP

i think this proves what i was saying that there is going to be a lot of people very dissapointed over the preorder and the 360, look at the facts you placed a preorder in august and they will still not guarentee you one. Reason for this is becaue they most likely have less than 5 per store but I can not really comment on game as I have no contact there

A friend pre-ordered one for her bf for his christmas present in September, and HMV rang her over the weekend to tell her they hadn't got as many as they thought they were going to so she's not getting it. I'm nt sure which branch this was though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,321 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

some stores have them in stock already (can't sell them yet obviously), and there is a hell of alot more than 12

TCP/IP's source must be his own ass

  • Subscribers Posts: 3,703 ✭✭✭TCP/IP

astrofool please refrane from such stupid coments as they are not needed or wanted this is an open discussion board not a place for name calling. I am sure some places have more than 12 but if the owner of said store states they have 12 piceces for the launch date then i have nothing else but to believe them maybe when you make contact with other store owners they could advise you if there stock levels

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,321 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

Well, knowing, for a fact, that other stores have more than 12 (alot more), paints your friends shop in a very very bad light.

Whats not needed or wanted in a discussion forum, are unsubstantiated comments painted as fact by someone who, obviously, doesn't have a clue. What purpose would putting such a statement out there have, other than to gain attention for a petty person, and cause scaremongering among other people.

    Story Lads,

Booked mine back at the end of the Summer in Gamespot and have been in several times since to pay off the remainder and reserve 2 games. I've asked, and they confirmed that I'll get the console at launch next Friday... Or midnight on Thursday should I say... They're handing out Free-bee's and it's a darn good excuse to stay in the pub til 12...

I was the second person to pre-book my 360 in Game in Dundrum. I called into them today to see what the craic was. They told me that I "should be ok" and that I should come into the store at 9am on Friday..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭Easy Rider

I booked mine at Gamespot, Henry Streety...13th of August

I went in about pre-ordering games and they said no need as they have loads (took me around 10 minutes to explain it to the guy, he did not get what I was asking) never mentioned anything about shortages and they actually had one on display with COD 2 playing on it...I asked another member of staff as this particular member of staff seemed new...

Anyway, before I went to Gemespot I went into Game to pre-order, same day...asked if a could pre-order a la the signs all over the shop, they said that they would not be getting in as many as expected due to the close release dates globally (you work in the games industry and you did not know that already??) and they took my details...never got back, so I imagine they were fully booked on the 15/09...

However I came home today with a letter from Game, apologising, but thanking me for my interest, but that I would not recieve on before Christmas and that it would be the new year at least....but said that they would have plenty of Core systems on offer with accessories and I should come on the day of release and subsequent days as they expect they will have plent of Core systems......so if anyone has not pre-ordered and fancy spending loads of money uprgrading a core system go to game...

The " Should be Ok " comment seems to be the standard reply in the Game store. Its positive but non-commitial and in most cases handles the query. Until I hand over the monies and get the unit in my hand will I believe what they say.:v:

As far as i know a lot of the shops (in dublin anyway) are opening just after 12 i know its a pain but if you can get in there then i'd say you'll be garunteed one?i know in gamestop on Henry street like 10 maybe 15 people have them completely paid off and the people in the shop said they were pretty much garunteed the 360?take out of it what you will but after talking to a lot of store managers they said just vecasue you have it pre ordered it doesnt mean its yours????? thats just what i heard?:D

  • Subscribers Posts: 3,703 ✭✭✭TCP/IP

astrofool harvey norman havenow come out and said they are only getting 12 consoles and game are stating to people that have prebooked months in advance that they may be ok, this really is throwing you theory of there is plenty out the window. As for scare mongering its only a console its hardly the end of the world if people including me dont get one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭johnser

I can concur with TCP/IP that the number of systems the shops are getting is not as many as they were told when the orders were confirmed back in the summer.

Official sources from M$ have stated that only 300K systems are available for launch for the entire of Europe and thats a mixture of the HDD/Core systems.

The simple facts are that most shops will have between 10 - 30 systems available and we're just going to have to accept that. There will be a limited number of shops getting more but its the exception rather than the rule (Smyths for example).

Dont get confused when looking in the shops and they have big displays with loads of Xbox360 boxes in them. They are just promotional and empty.

M$ have being trying to squash rumours that it will be new year before you get your system. They are going to be shipping systems weekly to the shops and again numbers will be limited.

Just remember thats its the run up to Christmas. There is only a limited number of trucks, limited number of couriers and a limited amount of shipping space and every store and manufacturer will be competing for the same space. So its very likely that M$ wouldnt be actually able to the 360's out in time.

Just to go back on my point. At the moment everything is up in the air, we wont know any facts until Friday, so I suggest we wait until then.

    John

I agree John fully lets wait till Friday hopefully it will all work out and we will all get one, ah well I know i am getting one for sure so that is fine. Great having mates ha ha

I think loads of core systems are going to be bought by people when there is no full systems left.

I was gonna say - from what I've heard from some friends in Game, it should be possible to pick a system up on the day (they're getting two lots in before launch, got one delivery last week which nearly covers their preorders, and one yesterday, or were supposed to be anyway - not sure how big the second one was). However I forgot about the whole core situation..I'm kind of hoping there might be a few premiums left over for Friday morning, but now I'm seriously doubting. The core pack is such a ripoff.

Also, apparently games are going to be retailing for €70-80! :( Anyone know what peripheral prices will be like here, if one was to be stuck with a core pack? A HDD? Wireless controller?

I was about to post a thread regarding the rip-off prices of the games in the Game Stores. I for one will not bother with any games from them, hopefully I get my pre-ordered Premium system and if so I'll walk away to purchase some games elsewhere. Both Argos & Xtravision are advertising games at €64.99 which is the best price I've seen, I also reckon that Smyths might be a good bet for games as well.:)

Well as long as they're not the general prices everywhere, that's OK. Argos is a well kept secret ;) Nearly always the cheapest place to buy.

There was a time when Game would pricematch, though, if you pointed out a lower price to them elsewhere. Do they still do this? This is how they were able to have those "lowest price GUARANTEED!" signs everywhere

Theres nothing worse than looking forward to a big release and just missing out. The numbers quoted seem tiny compared to previous console launchs.

The day the PSP came out i managed to pick one up without prebooking, so i hope that as many of you as possible can get your hands on one. Worst case scenario you can always offer a bit over the odds for the display model;).

Call of Duty 2 on the PC rocks by the way, and i've been impressed at what the 360 can put out.

I haven't seen the price match promise in game for quite a while. in fact I would go a step further in stating that as a regular buyer of games, that I have noticed the negative trend of Game overpricing games. Recent high profile releases (Quake4, King Kong & Fear ) have been overpriced as much as a tenner on the day of release. It seems to have become normal practice and only after a few days the feckers reduce the price to the RRP.

I suppose it should'nt be a surprise given the rip-off republic we live in. Nowadays I never buy a game until I've paid a visit to Virgin, Smyths, Extravision & Game. After the tour I buy the cheapest, in most cases this would be Smyths followed by Virgin. Its been quite a while since a bargin was to be had in Game. In addition I find the certain members of staff in Game stores ( Liffey Valley & The Square ) a bit smart-arsed for their own good. They seem to forget that the majority of serious gamers are no-fools and will have researched both the game & the correct pricing before handing over hard-earned cash.

It seems to have gone downhill ever since they took over EB. It's as though they think they've no competition anymore, even though there's more competition than ever these days. I'll only visit Game for obscure games or the odd bargain on older games. I'm not a big fan of their customer service either(the ones in town, just in general and also due to a couple of specific things that happened), so even at the same price I'd always buy elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭dave oc

Just a quick question, does anyone know how much games will be( is there a going to be a standard price or will it vary from shop to shop?). I saw on gamestop.ie it says that games will be 69.99 but that seems a little expensive....

  • Subscribers Posts: 3,703 ✭✭✭TCP/IP

that really is quite a small amount most likely at the most they will have twenty consoles for sale on friday to the public people you better get queing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭FrankGrimes

My mate's girlfriend is a manager in a retailer (no - I'm not going to say who) and they have received their delivery but they only got 45 Xbox 360s though they thought they were getting 200. MS indicated they would get more next week but would not specify how many

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 190 ✭✭hutch

microsoft have confirmed with gamestop that they will have enough consoles to cover all their pre books before christmas but only half for day 1 so they will be working on a first come first serve basis. anyone without a booking won't get anywhere near them. the one on henry street opens at midnight and the one on liffey street opens at 8 in the morning.
i booked mine in the one on liffey street and they were always updating me on the allocation situation as soon as they knew anything.i don't think its fair to blame the shops so much as they really didn't know how many would come in.

Booked my Xbox 360 in early Septmeber in Smyths in Airside. Got a call from a bloke just now to tell me my Xbox is there and waiting to be picked up on Friday morning - Go on ya good Thing!!!!!!!!!:D :D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭Boysey

Just on the game prices... Gamestop are selling them for €69.99, you can prebook/pay for them now to be collected at launch. Also something to consider would be the recharger pack for the wireless controller... I'm told they'll be about €20 (no idea if this is accurate or not). If not you'll need to stock up on some AA's.

XV will be getting 3500 for the whole country, persume thats core and premium. least i had the balls at say what company, only jokin to the others, well sort of
