Mini Power Consumption high

    Comparing the power brick of our new Mini (1.5 c/w SuperDrive) to my 12" PB DVI's brick, and the Mini is rated for 85W versus 45W for the PowerBook.

    Seems quite high..I know the Mini has a 1.5GHz CPU compared to a 1GHz but it doesn't have a screen, or battery to charge.

    Any ideas why? True its still low compared to your average 300W PC but still...

    Bear in mind that that 85w is not the consumption, it is simply the highest wattage the adapter is ABLE to supply.

    The Mac mini only uses 20 watts during normal usage with a screen, keyboard, mouse and standard peripherals connected (like printer, scanner). This can spike to about 30 watts if you are reading or writing a CD/DVD and stressing out the CPU and hard drive.

    It uses less power compared to a PowerBook. That may simply be because a PowerBook has a built in screen with a backlight, which needs power to run.
