Brilliant weekend. Headed to Kremlin twice - once on Friday, once on Saturday. The chipper van outside was my only source of nourishment on Friday night. Damn good, and probably dodgy burgers.

Whoever booked the hostel a minute from the nearest club deserves a free drink.

my friend from DIT said Kremlin made Dragon look like crap.
Did ye do much actual training????

Ah yeah! All of saturday and part of sunday was spent in seminars, some of which were fantastic, others ok.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭shay_562

I went. Sorry to say this when you didn't go (it's like rubbing it in or something), but yeah, it was class. And your friend is right - Kremlin kind of puts every gay bar down here to shame. Actually, it outclasses most of the clubs down here in general...although it did make me eternally grateful for the smoking ban.

What else? Went to a bunch of lectures too, more interesting and educational than I had thought they'd be. Got free name tags from some dodgy-looking dude in a coat. Had maybe 4 hours sleep since Thursday (that's why I'm up so late - sleep patterns all out of whack). Can't wait for next year!

i am already really jealous. i didnt even try to go, cos i didnt know what it would be like etc....
i have to get my skates on and join the lgbt soc soon.

One thing he said, and its a bit weird, you can see into the toilets from up the bar above. Glass Floor or something. Bit dodgy.

Best weekend I've had in a long time. I was told pink training was a lot of fun but it actually exceeded my expectations. For those of you who went, we are meeting up tomorrow night in Front Lounge for some reliving of the weekend, possibly with UCD and DIT as well.

Details will be emailed out to all Trinity LGBT soc members tonight.

Best weekend I've had in a long time.

The parts of it you remember, that is.
i have to get my skates on and join the lgbt soc soon.

You should, it rocks. And that's from a new member, so I have absolutely no vested interest in badgering you to join. Plus, free coffee. Woo!

You could? Jesus, I didn't even notice that. I do remember that in the place that was entirely booked out for Pink Training on Friday night, there were these creepy-ass urinals that looked out through the bar and onto the dancefloor (like, the windows in between were clear glass). Could that be what your friend was talking about, or was it definitely Kremlin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭wheresthebeef

i dunno. i got the impression that the floor was clear glass and the toilets were below and you could look down and actually see everything. thats impression i got.
maybe its what your talking bout. he was probably so drunk walls and floor just melted into one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 245 ✭✭Enigma365

    Who are you Shay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭shay_562

It's Niall. And now I'm praying you're actually Rob, because if not, then I just insinuated that some random stranger gets blackout drunk. Well, not random stranger, since you're clearly someone from the committee, but I generally like to know who I'm making snide comments about.

    ETA:
i got the impression that the floor was clear glass and the toilets were below and you could look down and actually see everything. thats impression i got.

Actually, thinking about the layout of the place, that could very well be true - there was a bar area just over them. Which is creepy enough in general, but given the amount of people having sex in those toilets, really makes you wonder about the people who work there. There's just not enough 'ew' in the world.

that'd be great. cos i don't know anyone else in it really. i keep meaning to go, but always find excuses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 245 ✭✭Enigma365

Yeah WheresTheBeef, if you ever do want to come along to an event or to one of our regular tea/coffee lunchtime things, then feel free to send an email to lgbisoc@csc.tcd.ie and you can discuss maybe meeting a committee member drectly before coming up to the room or to an event. This way you have someone to talk to when you first come up and someone to introduce you to everyone.

Plenty of our members have joined this way and it seems to work quite well, as virtually all have come back.

More details can be found at http://www.trinitylgb.org

I'm now officially one of the membership officers(Bi-Sexual). If anybody wants a holding hand joing the soc, or merely someone to talk to, Feel free to contact me, or any of the committee infact.

Do you know who the gay membership officer is?
When will the details be going up on the website.

Probably off-topic, but who's the transgender membership officer? I didn't know we even had any T members.

In an effort to stay remotely on-track:
Kremlin is crap...Overpriced gay sex club.

'Cause the George is such a classy establishment? Though I'd agree the prices were kinda extortionate (it wasn't til I got back and realised how much I'd gone through in real money that I figured that one out. Damn it)

Oh, wait, that wasn't on-topic at all, was it? Meh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭wheresthebeef

it was. the prices in Kremlin are so on topic, i asked how it went. and also said tell me everything, i think. So therefore anything goes.

anyone who was at TCDSU council will have learned that everything is open to interpretation.

With regard to SU council, I heard something about wands and the sabbats being required to carry them. I'm sure its not as ridiculous as that, or has student politics taken a turn for the bizzarre?

    Back on topic...

The Kremlin was quite expensive and perhaps uber gay, but like Shay said, so is the George. Altho the Kremlin is probably a bit more of the latter.

The T officer is Johnny and yes we have no T members at the moment, but we have an officer ready just in case.

Ahem. Ridiculous is not something i like to hear bantered around willy nilly to something i feel i spoke very passionately for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭wheresthebeef

It is now SU policy that all Sabbatical Officers must be in the possesion of a wand or sceptre whilst in the performance of thier duties. sabbats failing in this will be fined. A Sceptre and Wands Committee has been established to oversee this policy, although elections will not take place until next council.

    Totally serious.

Yet another reason to be an officer.

    I'm serious.

I now am in need of a wand. Donations to be sent to Education Officer, House 6.

You know, i think the committee might require wand/sceptre reports by the sabbats...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭wheresthebeef

I performed a random wand inspection today at around 12.00. Stephanie O'Brien was not in the possession of an official wand, but was making do with a particularly colourful pen.
Donal, and John were unavailable for inspection as they were out of the office.

I think the Sceptre/Wand Committee needs to form an enforcement body to enforce this mandate, as the sabbats cannot be left to fulfill this mandate without support from the students.

I also propose a thread on this board for reporting wand/sceptre violations.

I dispute that, I was in my office at 12, though the door might have been closed...

In other news, I have, in my possession, a wand. Oh yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

Tbh very little can be done until the formation of the scepters and wands committee - which is a pain, but oh it shall be good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭shay_562

It's good to know our SU is discussing matters of such vital importance to our education and well-being. 'Ridiculous' doesn't even begin to cover it...

    Donal,
I apologise for insinuating that you weren't in your office. The door was indeed closed, and you may have been using natural light, so i assumed you were away on important Education related business, as usual.
We saw a green sparkly wand at council last night, that would be sufficient.
Please make sure its on your person at all times.

The Sceptres and Wands issue is a matter of the tradition of wielding power. TCD is swamped in tradition that means nothing and is a waste of time, so why stop with commons and the like.

I declare this thread the gayest thread on the TCD board.
    Yay!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

lighten up. at the same time as proposing this i was also going to speak on two different motions quite seriously, and ran for one committee quite seriously.

All it is is showing that we dont take ourselves TOO seriously.

this thread seems to have moved onto Sceptres and Wands... still a gay topic for sure

    See its still relevant.

PT is always the best weekend away of the year. Been to 3 so far and counting...

Will be interesting to see how the upheavel and the disaffiliation campagins from USI will affect the event next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭wheresthebeef

i propose we set up the Pink Union of Students of Ireland. its sole function will be to organise pink training. And cos its not USI, we can let NUIM and DCU and the like to come too.

    Hail PUSI!!!

    gay people will love PUSI

    great idea!

an organisation like the one you suggested was close to being set up two years ago but all the regular lgbt heads, in the event of USI folding. Nothing of course came to it.. too many egos fighting over lgbt politic crap instead of focusing on basic student needs. But it's ideas were gud. It was very hush hush at the time.

I think a simple organisation/committee could easily be formed with all the lgbt soc presidents on board. and an event like PT can be done easily. Plus.. instead of just one person doing the job in USI (with help from the working group), a group can deal with different aspects of the organisation.

I guess we'll see what happens with USI, but i'd definately help setting it up if anyone is interested. I think it was an arrogant move by certain colleges in USI when non-affiliates weren't allowed to take part in any events. Especially when they paid a fair bit more for attending and subsidised USI members.

it would be an awful shame to lose PT if USI goes belly up. which it very well might do.
We shall have to wait and see. Either way, pink training must survive. Or else i wont get to go :-(

Me and neil will set up a SUSI to rival it.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭wheresthebeef

SUSI. Thats totally discriminatory. We demand the right to join your union.
If you keep us out of your union, its inequality.

However if we keep you guys out of ours, is a special interest support group. See the difference.

    Long live PUSI and SUSI.
