It's a relief isn't it...you guys had better harden up and stop bleating when ever one of your team gets dumped...two alleged spear tackles and no official action to back up your allegations...and it's funny how no one in Ireland talks about D'arcys spear tackle on Rua Tipoki!!!!!!

    NZ Herald 17/11/05

"Nonu let off dangerous tackle charge "

    17.11.05 7.30am

All Blacks rugby centre Ma'a Nonu has escaped a dangerous tackle charge without further punishment.

International Rugby Board (IRB) judicial officer, Judge Wyn Williams QC, of Wales, today ruled that referee Jonathan Kaplan's decision to penalise Nonu at the time for his tackle on Ireland's Gordon D'Arcy during last Sunday's test in Dublin was sufficient punishment.

Nonu sat through a 90-minute hearing yesterday at London's Heathrow Airport, and Williams deferred his decision until 24 hours later.

Nonu was left out of the All Blacks squad for the test against England at Twickenham on Sunday but will be available for selection for the final tour match against Scotland a week later.

good, it wasn't even dangerous, 100% the right choice, anything else would of been stupid

    Fair result.

I don't think it was a malicious tackle. It was reckless. He deserved to be penalised for it. And he was. But that's all.

TBH, I think he just had to go through the due process because of the failure of the authorities to deal properly with the much more serious incident earlier in the year.

Personally i think he should have been carded on the day for doing something stupid (note not malicious, just stupid) and none of this mess would've come about.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 55 ✭✭Stretch*

I agree, it should have happened in both instances, OK Nono is a young player and had a rush of blood, however Umaga has never had any reputation for dirty play and is normally a gentleman despite the appearance. It would have made this tour memortable for its rugby rather than its incident(s)

definetly should have got a yellow card on the day, as usual a ref bottled it when dealing with the all blacks.

Ya that all that he should have gotten, it did just seem like a rush of blood to the head.

Seems Kiwi memories are as short as their arms. Nonu was cited independently and Henry was just as critical as EOS was over the tackle.

However it was a dump rather than a spear and Nonu clearly pulled back from trying to harm D’Arcy. Kaplan’s handling was spot-on, the IRB looked at it – no case to answer.

i still believe whatever about citing, dangerous tackles (and that was, not malicious, but stupidly dangerous from the way he landed) should be carded on.

I don't see any reason for people to avoid making an issue about potentially fatal tackles. Rugby is a hard, tough game, but not one where we try to kill each other. Dumping in that way is illegal, end of story.

Ah, so it's only "alleged" that Mealamu and Umaga spear tackled BOD. Right...

It's funny how New Zealanders ignore the fact that we talked about it plenty.

maybe if you came over for the lions tour, or better still make plans to visit us for the worldcup, you will see that the rugby and adventure capital of the world is a bit different to your current narrow perceptions

that's funny coming from an kiwi.

i've been to new zealand....narrow, one eye'ed and ignorantly xenophobic is how i'd describe most of my rugby conversations there....

Get some balance dear chap. NZ..like Ireland..has a lot more to offer than just rugby. If you had taken the time to get outside of the rugby fanatics, you may have enjoyed yourself a lot more.

Behaviour breed behaviour, are you sure you weren't attracting abuse by your own actions, Kiwis are pretty laid back but give as good as they get if niggled. Also the booing at Twickenham...some of the most constant and poor sportmanship I can remember.

Now if only we could find a couple of pacific rim countries from whom we could rob all promising rugby players then we could bring a half decent team with us

It's not quite that easy...remember you have to house them, educate them, and their families, support many of the extended family on your welfare system..give them citizenship ,they also take a fair bit of the police and judiciaries time. unforetunately it isn't as simple as it seems...The polynesians can also be very "lazy trainers" and it takes a different coaching and motivation style to get the best from them.

It's exactly the same as many of the immigrants to the UK...there are both positives and negatives..it's not just a South Pacific garden of Eden, with huge Polynesian rugby geniuses queing to play for NZ.
There are severe socio economic and racial problems in some parts of South Auckland,
If ,by highlighting the acknowledged problems caused by Polynesian drift to NZ and removing your rose coloured specs, makes me a racist..I suggest you need to find other taunts which are more accurate.

I can understand your comments, in Nz the Lions had such a massive build up by the Pommy press, then were such a pathetic let down on the field, that joe average kiwi rugby fan felt it was about time some of the crap and nonsense we had to stomach about the "Mighty Lions" got returned with interest! I'm sorry if you got mistaken for a Lions fan, I wouldn't like to be either.

You're an absolute tit. can you actually condone the actions towards Dave?

if you came over here and got the same treatment i wouldnt condone it either - but you're so full of ****.

The internet is great resource for Pommy newspapers..plus articles are reprinted thru AAP/Reuters etc...aren't modern communications fun.
As Lions supporters, I tended to class you all as one variety....I mean the POMs made up the bulk of the team and Sir Clive is a POM.
You guys are the same about the AB's...we are continually accused of poaching Pacific Island players, when they are in fact mostly born bred and educated Kiwis.

However, because of Irelands non inspired performance, an incident such as this acts as a diversion, and lets indignation and self rightousness replace informed comment.

Trojan what are you talking about??????????????????????????????????????

You're the one who is ignoring facts mate. I constantly apologised for the infamous tackle. As did the majority of New Zealanders. I offered the welcome to one and all to NZ for the World Cup. I also offered anyone who wants info on going down to NZ travel advise as well.
I remember the majority of people on this board getting into kiwis being arrogant and cheats. Your meant to be the moderator.

There were posts on this board which would do nothing to promote this country at all.
You want a fact trojan here's one
The anti New Zealand feeling is against everything that rugby stands for.
Here's another one stop bleating about New Zealand try and get your head round Ireland being in none too good shape.

Kiwi's aren't as bad as you keep craping on. If you have never heard of the tall poppy syndrome you wanna look it up. Jealousy is something that comes to mind at the moment. I'd love to see Ireland win another Triple Crown and even win a Six nations. Wheras you Trojan in you weak appreciation of sport want to plough into a country that has and will support Ireland v anyone

    Get over it
