Well technically i do but never before it has graced the Brita Jug, the water straight out the tap kinda has a sewage taste to it  . I noticed a few months back, got home from a nite out, filled a glass out the tap and started sipping it - i thought i was going crazy. Really did have a funny taste, perhaps its different in certain parts of the country but i wont touch water straight out the tap.

I'll drink it at home in Dublin, but not in my parents' house (Glen of Imaal).

The biggest joke ever is bottled water companies convincing people that water you pay €1.30 for is better than the free stuff.

Yep, all the time. I'd only buy water if I absolutely had to. I fill a 2L bottle with water from the tap and keep it in the fridge, I like the water to be ice cold.

Tap water in Limerick city has always been fine.

Well I used to drink it when I lived with my parents over the Northside but now since I moved to Terenure for some reason the water tastes kind of bleachy or something  Also my bf is from Longford and aparently its unheard of to drink tap water around those parts so he has always drank bottled water so Its 100% bottled for us now..

I always drink the tap water. usually put it in a 2 litre bottle and leave it chill in the freezer. I only like my water cold.

    Yip, all the time!!!

Most in my house don't, they buy the cheapo water in Lidl. Yes, there's less of a 'taste' of the bottled water, but I don't find the 'taste' all that bad so I drink away at it

Sorry, this is way off topic, but it got me thinkin:- has anyone ever taken a big gulp of milk only to discover that it's sour????
    My biggest fear in life!!

Also Xzanti:- I used to live in Longford & drank the tap water there all the time too.
    (Maybe I'm just not fussy???)

So i'm not the only one who thinks this. I've had heated arguements over this with a friend of mine who lives there.

I always drink from the tap but i understand peopl not doing it. A few times I remember in the past people in offaly been told not to drink the water due to a waste leakage or something wrong in the water. it would make you weary about drinking it.

water from plastic bottles tastes like plastic...
i'll take good oul fashioned tap water any day.

Never bothered me to drink from the tap... granted it tastes weird

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,002 ✭✭✭bringitdown

Tap water tastes okayish in Ringsend bit metallic sometimes, so in general I would prefer to run it through a Brita or similar but nope, would never buy bottled water unless I am away from my lovely tap.

Would agree that it definately varies region to region.

I drink tap water all the time. I usually let the water run for a few seconds before filling up the britta jug. I think if you do not run the water, there can be a stale taste in the water, or a taste off the pipes. Water in my area is full of lime so thats the reason I filter it.

I fill up a 2L bottle of water and keep it in the fridge aswell, for those times I want a cold glass of water.

i drink the tap water, in dublin but the father wont, he only drinks from the tap in our house in wexford, cos its from our own well

Water from a personal well is dangerous though. You could get "Well's disease" or many more exciting diseases.

Yup! Though I prefer it from the Brita jug (mostly because it's cold from the fridge I guess).

Yeah actually Im probably wrong to say its unheard of but Iv certainly never seen him or any of his family or friends drink the longford water, maybe its just the region they're in or something.. I used to go to a friends holiday home in Roosky a lot as a child and the water at her house was rank, it smelled like sewerage, it was from a local well aparently...

Yes, you jsut hit the nail on the head, my glass or water actaully smelt like sewerage  , if i run a tap in my house and get close i can smell it really strongly.

I drink the water at home (kilkenny) all the time, tastes fine. Whenever I'm up at my cousins in Galway, nobody drinks the water there. It comes from their own well, and is quite dodgy.

The tap water in my area of Waterford is fine. I drink it everyday.

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,742 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

    I don't drink water.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,519 ✭✭✭Oral Slang

I used to drink the tap water from our old house - our own well in the countryside - it was gorgeous, although it was full of lime, so we went through tons of kettles, washing machines etc.

However now, living in Tallaght I only drink water that's been filtered or bottled water. I can always taste chlorine off it. My boyfriend drinks it though, but he's used to mains water, so thats probably why!

tap water is horrible in Waterford but very nice in Dungarvan

2.50 in some places and your right it is a joke

Generally I think the tap water is more reliable in more built-up areas than in the contryside. My family only drink bottled water (East Co. Waterford) cos when you run our kitchen tap the smell of chlorine is as strong as at a swimming pool, it's scary. We can't even put it in the fish tank cos it's killed one goldfish already.

Straight from the tap of South Dublin. Tastes fine.

I've had the misfortune of doing this twice. The first time it was so rancid I stopped drinking milk for a couple of months.

The tap water is usually fine here!!... You would get the odd day where there is a taste of soil (dirt!) off it!... But most days its fine!!.... im still alive so i can't complain!

I was thinking the same thing, you would think in a thriving town like Navan the water would be decent.

Add a splash of Kia Ora to any water, and hey presto, tasty water. Mmm, i love to dilute.

You might as well be stirring a spoonfull of sugar to your water... Kind of defeats the purpose of drinking water, it cleanses your system, adding sh*t like that to it ruins it imo... I love ribena but I dont kid myself into thinking its good for me just cause its mixed with water... Unless of course you're just drinking it as a thirst quencher rather than for its cleansing qualities...

I drink tap water all the time, it tastes fine, but the house I used to live in, the water from the tap was dire and never drank it as I valued my health.

The Water where I live in Kilkenny is lovely.... Has a nice taste to it. The Water in my old place IN london was manky, would only drink bottled water. The water where I am now in Acton is ok, but I still tend to go for bottled!

Hmm my tap water is lovely, but you must consider that we have to pump our own where we live than pass it through a filter system to remove the copper. out of the ten houses on our road that all pump from the same underground stream, only us and another have to filter out the copper everyones elses is perfect!

I drink tap water in Belfast, Dublin, Donegal, Macedonia....

Tap water's grand, and its also free, and its not as if bottled water's a huge improvement. Whats the point in paying a euro a litre or so to buy water in environment-destroying plastic bottles.

Interestingly - I believe there's about 60mg of chloroform per litre in Irish tap water, and Britta filters are actually a by-product of car manufacture.

Carlow tap water is absolutly disgusting. i cant stand it. but im quite happy drinking tap water from home (newbridge)
