Jimmy Carr

Just wondering. Does anyone find Jimmy Carr in anyway funny?
I dont at all and think he is just rude and plain un-intellegent. imo, he needs a slap in the face and told "oh yeah, btw, sarcasm is the lowest form of comedy" (i dont count prop-comedy as comedy, tis just unfortunate). True, the point of his humour is meant to be a bit insulting but the lad is just blunt and obvious. I remeber last new-years(ish) he and Jonathan Ross were on some end of year celebrity quiz and they had a little slagging fight and who do u think came off the winner? why the more intellegent Ross of course!
    example of Carr's lame humour:
"I went into a library and asked for the Psycho, The Rapist section and the clerk told me its pronounced psychotherapist"
basically the lad noticed how something was spelled, thought it was funny if he divided and came up with a lame joke. since when is there a Psycho, The Rapist section in any library? This guy just seems get a vague idea, believe its funny, add sarcasm and mix... if no1 likes it, insult them for a bit of crowd reaction. Dont even get me started on the top-100 programs on channel 4, perfectly good shows ruined by his un-funny analysis of wat we have just seen with some vague insight mixed with sarcasm. Channel 4 seem to love him and i wouldnt be surprised if he gets his own Norton-esque talk show soon featuring "insightfull yet funny" interviews with the likes of Jordan. i can see it now, "Katie, those boobs are so big, have they ever melted near a radiator?" hardy har-har mr. carr, u noticed jordan has big boobs, well diddly done.
Sorry for droning on but the guy just really makes my blood boil. plus he looks a bit like a fish swimming towards u when he talks to the camera

    rant over.
what do other ppl think of him?

un-intellegent i dont think so. I also find him very funny

I find him pretty funny alright, he was on the ray d'arcy show during the week and I have to say he was pretty good. His standup jokes tend to revolve around sarcasm mainly which does get a bit too much after a while, ever seen his show Distraction? But my god he's unbelievable at holding a straightface, like no other comedian I know of.

oh I agree with the straight face thing, brilliant, and I used to always watch Distraction, it was funny, but some of the things were just disgusting, namely the naked ppl

I think he's good. He takes the sarcasm as well as he dishes it out. After being on Your Face Or Mine, now everyone slags him about his face. At this stage he just turns it around on them for unoriginality.

He's been on the Panel twice now and is surprisingly able to make irishy jokes despite being an ignorant englishman (*cough* Ricky Gervais *cough*). At one point he was slagging the panelists and the audience about the irish "army", then he was slagging some guest for not knowing about abrakebabra ("what is it?", "It's a magical place") - and everyone was loving it.

He's a bit hit and miss. First time he was on The Panel (2003 Christmas Special I think) he was rubbish. He's been fairly good on this run of The Panel though.

Jimmy Carr can be funny when there's other people around to "buzz off"

His stand up is woeful though...

I quite like his type of humour tbh. I love his little bits he writes for Nuts or one of those types of magazines.

I was going to defend him but then I saw him on Johnathan Ross, he did the same standup routine jokes he did from the very first time he was on TV, how old are those jokes now 5,6 7 or 10 years old. He should be embarrased and thrown in a bin.

I saw him on Leno and he did the same jokes but I though ok well the Americans probably won't have seen him but to do it on the JR show is disgrace.

I find him funny, he's got a unique brand of observational comedy that I think is very incisive. I actually found the Psycho, the rapist section joke funny when I read it in the OP's post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭SprostonGreen

Yeah, I think he's funny. I've laughed at everything I've seen him on, be it the Panel, J. Ross or his own excellent 8 out of 10 cats.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,942 ✭✭✭missingtime

Do you ever see bo selecta take the piss out of him? Its priceless.

I was watching him on Johnathan Ross and is it just me or does he look like a character from Family Guy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 602 ✭✭✭mickd

He appeals to the chin-stroking brigade, 'My delivery is so devastingly sharp' I don't think so. Why is he on the Panel? He contributed nothing last monday,

no, that means you have problems remembering things. nothing to do with the person you are trying to remember

One thing going for Jimmy Carr is that so far he's the fastest celebrity in a reasonably priced car on Top Gear (although that record almost went this week apparently).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,426 ✭✭✭Roar

anyone see his new stand up dvd yet? watched half an hour of it last night and i was in tears, magic stuff

Maybe his funniness is just a defence mechanism for his, ahem, ugliness. Har, har, har. Although I do remember once liking him, I now hate Jimmy Carr, he is too predictable. And what's with the pseudo-suave, english ponce act. Now Colin Murphy, there's a witty f*cker.

    Eeeeeeeehhhhh, no.

He really brings The Panel down as nearly every Irish cultural reference has to be explained to him and it ruins the tempo of the show.

he is an annoying little man and in no way funny imho

He's not really funny at all. His "act" is dreadful. I can't believe people pay money to see a toff in a suit recite the same old one liner jokes!

The only part of his last DVD I laughed at was the 'No love, YOU'RE fattest' joke.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,382 ✭✭✭✭AARRRGH

Did any of you watch his show "Your face or mine?"? His comments were not prepared and he was often extremely extremely funny. He could be so cruel (yet true.)

That woman who sails around the world alot beat his record today.
He is a pretty funny guy.my leaving cert maths teacher looked the spit of jimmy carr and had a similar kind of humour.Wierd!!!

I remember one classic line of his on "Distraction".
The girl had won the car, but had to smash the windscreen with a sledgehammer.

Jimmy: Okay, put on the protective gloves and goggles.
Here, take the car keys, they're yours now
Girl: I don't have any pockets in these trousers...
Jimmy: You should've worn more sensible clothes then, shouldn't you ?
Girl: I want my arse to look good
Jimmy: Have you tried the Aitkens ?

i guess like people said it's preference, he can be hit and miss, much like the "superior" rossie, (try watching him on they think it's all over and not wanting to brain the twat) it just depends on what you're in the mood for.

one guy i can't get is tommy tiernan, he trots out 10 year old jokes and uses billy connollys routine to do it, i suppose he's funny if you haven't seen much, but having followed him for nearly 5 years i find he's going off the boil, just resorts to screaming obscenities at the crowd.

Is it just me or does anyone else think jimmy carr is gay!

There was always gay jokes directed at him on "your face or mine" and he would just laugh them off.

There i was thinking he was gay this whole time and then i see him in a magazine with his girlfriend. Madness!!!

I do think he's funny though:)

    :D

A 7 year old thread to insult him.

I thought he was very funny 3/4 years ago but getting stale now and more controversial to make up for it. Getting a bit Tiernan and Frankie Boyle for me.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.
